750 ml bottle. Many thanks to the kind friend who provided this.

Appearance: Light straw gold with thick, bubbly white head and generous carbonation. Transparent.

Aroma: Dry, crisp, grainy, and lightly smokes. Touches of honey sweetness. Germanic.

Taste: Pale german malts, field grains, and toast. Smoke is minimal. Herbal and moderately spicy hop finish.

Mouthfeel: Wonderfully dry. Clean and crisp. Light bodied, moderately carbonated, and perfectly balanced.

Drinkability: Flawless. I’m desperate for more. The most sessionable beer I’ve had in months.

12oz white label bottle. Smoked Helles brewed for the 3000th batch. Pours into my glass a golden yellow orange with a nice half inch of fizzy, bubbly white head on top that falls to a ring. Aromas begin with crisp toasted grains and some nice herbal, slightly spicy hops. Smoke aroma is there in the background, not being too prominent but still making itself known.

First sip brings a toasted grain malt upfront with light caramel and honey undertones. A nice herbal, spicy hop flavor moves in as it flows down alongside a kiss of smoke as well. Crisp and clean, it finishes off with a lingering toasty grain flavor on the back of the palate and just a touch of bitterness.

Mouthfeel is on the lighter side with steady moving carbonation that brings in a creamy quality to the brew. This one goes down easy and is quite refreshing. The light smoky quality adds a nice twist to the brew. Overall, another solid offering from Goose Island and one I would recommend if you're looking for a lighter, easy drinking brew that still has a nice flavor profile.

750 ml bottle. This is a smoked helles from what I was told. The brew pours a deep straw color with a 3 finger bright white head over top. the beer is crystal clear with a solid bit of carbonation in it. The aroma is lightly kissed with sweet smoke sitting over a mild doughy malt and lightly honey-kissed pislner malt. I like how the smoke doesn't dominate the beer, but acentuates the base style. Taking a taste, I get an incredible doughy bready character with a mild toasted malt quality. This moves to a slightly sharp herbal noble hop. It finishes with a kick back to the toast and a faint whisper of smoke as it trails off. I would have liked a bit more smoke on the flavor, but that doesn't detract from my liking the base brew. Mouthfeel is on the light side of moderate with a moderate carbonation. It is distinctly drying on the sides of my tongue, which is a little unexpected. I find this one to be very flavorful and balanced, though a bit light on the smoke flavor. Helles beers are starting to become a favorite of mine, and I think this one is a nice brew.
