Appearance: Dark brown hue with a decent light tan head.
Smell: Black coffee and roasted malts.
Taste: Burnt malts, slight coffee. Initially, there is a slightly bitter aftertaste, but this is subdued once the beer is given a chance to warm, opening up the taste to more of an oatmeal sweetness.
Mouthfeel: On the thin side for a stout, with a tad too much carbonation.
Drinkability: I was skeptical of the beer at first, but by the time I'm finished the bottle, I feel like I want to drink another.
Notes: Goose Island's Oatmeal Stout follows the pattern of previous Goose Island beers I've had: it's certainly good, but not outstanding. Simply because it's an oatmeal stout, it's a better than average overall beer. Definitely give this beer a chance to warm, because my perception of it steadily improved as the temperature rose.
