Do geese eat oatmeal? Pours a midnight black color. Not really viscous for an oatmeal stout but ok. A soft but bubbly white head with limited retention and lacing throughout.
The nose is soft overall. Some malt notes along with a hint of oatmeal but both limited. Some yeasty notes, a bit more than other Goose Island beers that I have tried before. Some light fusel notes as well along with a hint of black marker. Some nice spicy and earth hop notes that just come out on the back end. A light bubblegum note comes out as it warms.
The taste is similar. The malt comes out with a light oatmeal taste. Some milky notes but almost a lactic thing vs oat flavors. Some minor roast and black malt flavors but even for style a bit light. Some minor caramel notes on back end that comes out as it warms. Yeasty but not as pheonlic or estery versus the nose. Some minor plums and a light metallic finish.
The body is moderate and could use a bit more depth. Over all a pretty safe oatmeal stout that could use a bit more complexity. But it is easy going down and limited off notes make it drinkable.
