A nice looking deep chestnut colored ale. Solid one finger dirty white head with alright retention. Some sticky lacings, but generally scantily so.
The aroma is quite subdued, and may be influenced by the low level of carbonation. With that being said there are good but faint notes of toffee, and a nutty and toasted character and some floral hops.
This brew makes one take notice upon the tasting. Toasty malts and richer toffee meets the subtle, earthy spiciness from the rye. The zing from the rye grains really comes through at the finish and melds quite nicely with a moderate level of hop bitterness in the english style.
Almost medium bodied and very well balanced. Rich malts contrasted with the tang of the rye as well as a hint of fruitiness and mostly clean hop bitterness with floral hints. Finishes slightly dry, and this impression is aided by the mild astringency from grain husk.
A very drinkable ale and one that im glad to have stumbled upon today while looking for something else. While certainly nowhere near the most rye forward beer with rye, this is a tasty and sessionable brew that i really enjoyed. Well worth trying for fans of beers made with rye.
