765 ml bottle (1 pint 9.87 fl oz.) with bottled on date August 02, 2013 printed on the back label. My first encounter with a bottle of Goose Island Juliet; expectations are moderately high based on my experience with the others.

Poured into an over-sized wine glass.

A - Pours an interesting pinkish-purple orange color with about two fingers of quickly dissolving beige bubbles for a head. No lacing. Looks like a nice glass of juice.

S - Smell of blackberries hit me as soon as I uncapped this. Tart berry juice, cranberry, mild alcohol notes, soft cold leather, and a hint of barnyard funkiness. Maybe not quite as powerful smelling as the other sisters, but still very nice.

T - Delicious. Tart berry juice, apples, lactic acidity, some red / white wine, bit of alcohol presence, and some mild funky yeast. Not really detecting any rye in the taste, but that is fine by me. There is just a hint of heat on the finish, so maybe that's where the rye comes into play.

M - Feel is tart and sour, but finishes mostly clean, with a bit of juiciness lingering behind.

Overall, another nice beer from Goose Island. Definitely glad I managed to get a bottle of this; I suppose it was well-worth the twenty dollars spent. Tastes a bit more like wine than the others did, but maybe I am imagining it. Recommended.

The pour was hazy dark pink/purplish with no head, nice color though. Scent is enticing, it's all about dem tart fruits, tartness being on the lower side of the spectrum. Lots of berries, red grapes, and wine.

Taste is an improvement, really great blackberry and red wine flavor going on along with lactic notes, vanilla and light oak. Good tartness and some funk but it's the fruit that really shines here. Carbonation and overall feel is light, most likely has dissipated some, but the lightness works well here. Also very drinkable for 8%.

Nice berry and wine flavors with leveled out tartness. Not sure how this would continue to age but quite good at this point.

01-26-12 bottle split with some good people.

A- Pint glass pour with a murky, apple-cider looking appearance, a dark golden-amber. Fizzy head forms to about a finger but dies almost immediately with no retention. Falls to nothing looking like, cider. No lacing in sight.

S- Super tart fruits and apples are big and it actually reminds me of what it looks like, fresh market bought apple cider. Sour lemons, berries, Brett barnyard funk and tarts, grapes and wine are big.

T- Brett funk and barnyard comes through pretty big up front with even some slight band-aid. Really sour fresh lemon juice is present throughout the whole flavor and maybe the biggest part for me. Big wine barrel and vinous grapes, oak, berries, super tart lactic yogurt. Black berry flavor gets superb with time, like fresh with sour yogurt for breakfast.

MF- Super dried out body with a moderate overall consistency with some oily feel. Carbonation on the low-medium side and not much creaminess, somewhere on the watery side. Super tart and sour lemon finish.

Tons of fruit flavors and huge lactic sourness, super wild feel. Very enjoyable and hoping that GI can produce more beers like this in the future.

2010 batch, 12/11/10 no1149.

A: Super dark ruby red pour. Small soda-like tan head that fizzes out almost instantly. Almost no retention and no lacing at all.

S: A nice sweet and sour raspberry aroma. A little bit of acetone. Pleasant.

T: More sweet and sour. Reminds me of a raspberry pucker. Soft velvety berries and then a sudden sharp twang of sourness. Kind of an astringent tartness leading into the finish with hints of vinegar and acetone. Almost leathery too. Really quite nice. Lonnnng lingering tartness between sips.

M: Medium bodied and astringent.

O: Very interesting sour. A bit of balanced sweet and sour up front but turns into a drawn out acetic tartness. Great berry flavor throughout. One the best sours I've had. Very flavorful. Almost a little too tart but I'm still a beginner.

Bottle reads "Belgium style ale aged in wine barrels with blackberries". Bottle date 1/26/12. Drank on 8/3/13.

A - An orangey, auburn body with a very light head that dissipates quickly. Very foggy - no transparency and no sediment after pouring the entire bottle. Very effervescent.

S - The initial aroma reminds me of a tart candy - sweet and tart. We poured it into two glasses and the glass that got the final pour smells musty (yes, almost like cat pee) while the other glass is much more clean. Probably the yeast sediments at the end of the pour.

T - Even before you drink this beer, you know it's a sour. Goose Island has crafted a lovely blend of tart and sweetness in this beer. Initial tastes have a hint of grape notes (assumingly from the wine barrels) followed by a lemony, acidic taste at the end.

M - Lovely thin body with insane amounts of carbonation that pop off your tongue. Lots of sourness that settles in your mouth and burns your throat after swallowing.

O - I've had a number of sours, but this is one that I'm ranking highly. I love the blend of sourness and sweetness that makes this beer. Goose Island did a terrific job with this one. If the price wasn't so high (paid $20 for 22 oz) I would be picking up more now. Cheers.

Vintage 2010.

Poured this one into a tulip glass. Pours a rusty-color, with a thick bubbly head that fizzles away audibly. Light pinkish hue to the cap. Nose is tart and funky. Some citrus, dankness, vinegar. The nose held up well.

Easy feel. Plenty of carbonation, but nothing astringent. Crisp and refreshing. The flavor profile on this one keeps me gulping. Tart blackberry, lemon, lactic character, oaky dryness. Fruity finish from the barreling for sure. This beer disappeared quickly. Loved it. Thanks again, Ed!

2012 bottle. No need to keep this one in the cellar any longer.

Pours a beautiful golden amber, well carbonated.

S :Funky lactic acid. Not overwhelming, but not much else than funky lactic acid. I know sours are often about funk, and acid, but give me something else here. Maybe some lemon/grass if I force myself to find it.

T: Pretty one note. Lactic sourness, not enamel peeling ,but it's by far the dominant flavor. Some lemon juice (damnit, that's lactic acid). I don't know what else to tell you.

M: light, dry. sour. Above average for the style.

O: Not that interesting. Minimal depth or complexity. Nothing to seek out.

Pours a lightly hazy deep golden color with a huge fluffy bone white head that that dissipates as quickly as the bubbles in a glass of ginger ale. Tart and funky fruit dominate the aroma here. Lemons, cherries, and berries with lots of lactic sourness and funk make up most of the nose with hints of brown sugar deep in the background. The flavor puckers your face up front with lemons and tart cherries. Light brown sugar malt sneaks in before the citric return and burns a hole deep into your nether region. Medium body with a moderate level of carbonation and a slick tart puckering mouthfeel. Nice American wild, I'm glad I got to try it.

A: Pours a ruby cranberry color with a very short lived fizzy white head faded into faint active collar.
S: Very dry and funky barrel notes of musty cheese, oak tannins, dank basement and a hint of vinous fruit.
T: Tart notes of vinous wine barrel, oak tannin, earthy funk, tart lemon pith, and light blackberry juice. Fruit is light and comes through mostly in the finish after the initial citrus onslaught. Mild cheese, gritty tannins and spicy rye. Cranberry too.
M: Dry mouth, champagne carbonation, very tart, mild acid, dry gritty tannins.
O: Very tart, dry and flavorful. Really well rounded and enjoyable. Loved it. Cheers, Jay.

Appearance: Ruddy copper. Some orange-hues. Small white head drops to nothing and leaves a tiny white collar. No lacing. Moderate carbonation on the pour.

Smell: Nice hint of oak over a powdery tartness. Some blackberry flesh and juice. Sweet juiciness. Damp earth. Hay and slight woodiness. Lactic and acetic sour notes. Floral. Light sweet malt backbone. Warming pushes up the blackberry notes offering some fresh fruit. Slightly vinous. Grape must.

Taste: Balance of earth and damp wood. Oak and blackberry flesh. Solid lactic tartness on the back with some acetic flavors in the back. Bright fruitiness. Floral, almost perfume. Loaded with oak and tart fruit. Macerated blackberry flesh. White wine and grape. Building acetic as it warms, almost vinegar. Sweet and tart. Warming pushes even more oak and blackberry.

Mouthfeel: Moderate carbonation. Slightly dry medium body. Clean. Wet overall but not juicy.

Overall: Romeo, Romeo, wherefore art though Romeo.

Tart and delightful. Good balance of fruit and tart magic.

Appearance: Medium amber color, with some nice orange and golden tones - hazy overall - some lighter notes around the edges with some clarity, typical for barrel-aging - small, white head, fades to a small ring and leaves a few spots of lacing

Smell: Nicely funky and sour, with some wet, damp tartness - some fleshy, tart berry notes - damp, moldy, chewy wood - lots of sour funk, some typical barnyard Brett - some pale grains in the background, and some vinegar

Taste: Wet, damp, funky, tart, and sour - damp, musty Brett, wet wood - wet and funky, with tartness from the funk and tartness from the berries - interesting fruit flavors - nice level of sourness, mostly lactic

Mouthfeel: Medium body, smooth, low carbonation

Overall: Juliet, get a towel or something

This is wet, funky, and tart. It's very interesting, with some nice berry notes. If this were easier to get, I would buy it again. This bottle is from 2012, and I would imagine it gets more complex or something.

Last one from an awesome box from deyholla. Pours a beautiful deep ruby orange with tiny fizzy head that recedes quickly. Smell is sour vinegar and very sweet fruit and berries. Flavor is sour up front with a smooth berry finish. The berry is not too sweet and has just the right balance with the sour and barrel notes. Prickly carbonation and light-medium mouthfeel. Awesome sour, probably my favorite of the GI ladies.

Beautiful spring day so decided to celebrate with a Juliet.

A- Pours a rusty ruby color with a quickly disappearing thin sparkling head.

S- White wine dominant funk with some blackberry in the background, no note of the rye used, almost to be expected. One dimensional when compared to belgian counterparts, but solid for an ameircan wild

T- Blackberries are much brighter on the taste and there's a nice dry, white wine lingering on the palate with honestly almost a touch of rye spice to round out the finish.

M- I remember trading for a bottle of the first batch and this being much drier, came off as a little sticky with just enough carbonation to not take away too much from the pleasure of consuming it, but just barely above par for the style

O- Initially graded this a little harshly, but then changed my mind that I should keep the Belgians out of my mind when rating an American sour. Hard to do, but the style says so, so for an American Wild, this is great. It is easily my favorite out of the 3 sisters, though all are fair examples of American interpretations of sour beer. For someone new to this beer, I'd definitely recommend one fresh and one for cellar if possible as some time may dry this out.

I enjoyed this a lot, it was a nice dry sour that in aroma and flavor was like a tart gueuze with some wine barrel character and blackberries. The berries were light in the nose and more apperant in the taste.
A pretty great beer for a sour fan. I wish I could find this beer distributed around here so I could give it a proper review but these where my impression when I had the opportunity to enjoy it while out of town. They where serving this in bottles at the City Beer Hall in Albany, NY.

2012 vintage. i should be fair to this beer and admit that i enjoyed it in the same session as several new glarus sours, a consecration, and yes, a cantillon saint lamvinus, so some features that came across as lackluster or negative might actually not be so in another light, but i had one bottle and its been consumed, so here we go. pours a unique mix of orangey rust and rose pink, they kind of wash eachother out in a hazy melted crayon look. a finger or two of off white foam dies right away. the nose is quite sour and fruity, cherries maybe, lots of vinegar and lemon. it smells as bretty as it does like a kitchen cleaner for hippies, but im being critical. the taste is quite good, again with the fruit, maybe wild raspberry or something in there providing that tartness along with what must be a heavy dose of lemon peel and some sour yeast, which is quite intense towards the finish. lots of acid, and lots of residual sugar, not a combo i usually like at the tail end of a beer, but they seem to neutralize eachother reasonably well here. really poppy mouthfeel, gnarly carbonation over just a medium body. long drawn out aftertaste of lemony yeasty funk. i also taste some tonic water in here, especially in the aftertaste, which i cant explain but i dont care for at all. this one starts better than it ends.

We crack a bottle of the 2012 vintage and pour into our CB’s Signature Series chalices. It glows a golden orange coloring, resembling the look of sparkling cider. It puts up a quick one finger head of big tannish bubbles, but this is gone before you know it. Specs and rings of lacing are left around the glass once the liquid starts to disappear. Haze and sediment are thick with the last half of the bottle or so, while carbonation appears active. The nose is fresh and tart. We get big notes of souring Brett, sweet and nectary floral hops, pale and chalky grain, booze, and nail polish remover bite. With warmth comes more of that yeasty musk, an aged cheddar cheese twang, and a wild, fruity juiciness of blackberries (faintly) and raspberries. Our first impression is that this beer is majorly soured, as hoped for, but the blackberry inclusions are a bit lost. As we sip, pale malts start things off, but become quickly overtaken by an insanely souring blend of Bretty yeast and oaked red wine astringency. The hops also quickly move in to mix, with lemony zest and nectary florals to pull us to the peak. This is marked by more serious Bretty bite, fennel seed, oaky dryness, fusel booziness, lemony hops, and drying pale grain. The finish moves through with cheddar cheese funk, rye, juicy soured yeast, more lemon, herbal hop pucker, and juicy, but puckering, chokecherries. The aftertaste breathes of puckering raw blackberries (finally!!), drying green olives, black pepper bite, pale malts, rye, oak, red wine dryness, chokecherry bite, and that continued big Bretty sourness. The body is medium, and the carbonation is medium to full, with a prickle to the lip. There is decent slurp, smack, and pop, but little froth or cream. There is big tannic astringency, and a strong final dryness and pucker all around the mouth. The abv is appropriate, and the beer drinks very nicely.

Overall, what we liked best about this beer was the complexity through the sourness. We were very excited when we first sipped this beer, as the tart Brett really takes off robustly from the start. The entire time you’re trying to pick apart all of the flavors that make it so puckering, but keep it so drinkable and juicy. We do wish that the blackberry was more present in its sweetness, alongside its sourness. Either way, this beer had an excellent flavor, and was insanely drinkable.

650 mL bottle poured into a chalice. Bottle dated 1/26/2012.

Appearance - Pinkish. Cloudy with a nice white head. Settles to a white collar.

Smell - Vinous winey acidity. Red wine notes. Musty and maybe some brett.

Taste - Fruity grape sourness. More vinous wine notes. Pleasantly tart, but not intense by any means. Oaky and malty in the finish.

Mouthfeel - A touch sweet from the fruitiness, but the tartness balances it out. Medium bodied.

Overall - Solid. Better than Lolita by a fair margin. Muted fruit notes yield a nice sour beer behind it.

A: Pours a ruby color which appears more dark amber when held up to light. A sliver of bright white head quickly comes and goes. A small stream of carbonation bubbles can be seen rising to the top of the glass. Leaves no lacing. Really pretty color though.

S: Smells very tart, with sour acidity, a fair amount of oak from the barrel, a bit of funk and the faintest hint of raspberry that I probably wouldnt have picked up if I had not been looking for it.

T: Follows the nose. Very tart, with a puckering sourness. Lots of oak and a good amount of barnyard funkiness. There are hints of raspberry, but they are faint. Banana esters linger on the finish. Maybe a touch watery at times, but otherwise a really great flavor profile.

M/D: Medium bodied, high carbonation that gives it a crisp feel, no hint of any ABV, drinkability is very good.

O: Overall, quite a good brew here. It has the big sour notes I look for in a wild, and a nice bit of funk and oak barrel characters as well. I would have liked the raspberries to be a little more prominent, but very enjoyable nonetheless. Not mind blowing but Id drink again in heartbeat. I recommend.

Juliet pours an interesting pink stained copper color. It’s a light color, but looks really nice. Backlighting gives it more of a light orange appearance. Carbonation seems light, producing a light surface covering of white bubbles. They disappear rather quickly. Lacing is really non-existent. Nothing to discuss in that department at all. I do like the color. The rest…just okay.

It definitely smells good. Wild yeast is noted on the first whiff. It has that unmistakable barnyard funky scent going on. It’s rather pronounced in the mix, but doesn’t completely overwhelm everything. There are definitely berry notes that resonate throughout. It smells a bit earthy and grainy. I suspect that’s the rye quality coming though. It’s not spicy though. There’s a little oak on the tail. Alcohol is blended very well.

Juliet is a tasty Wild Ale. It starts out a bit grainy and earthy. That’s notable, but that’s about the only indication of rye being present. The Brett flavor follows and is pretty strong. It’s not completely overwhelming, but it definitely brings a strong funky, tart flavor to the mix. Mouth puckering? A little. The berry presence is flavorful and blends rather well. Oak is secondary, but adds quality depth and character. Alcohol is definitely masked well. Perhaps time has helped a little. Finishes fruity, tart, and dry. Really good stuff.

Juliet has a medium body. Carbonation is very light and soft. I honestly wouldn’t mind a few more bubbles. Small gripe. It goes down so soft and easy. I don’t think this bomber is really going to be enough. It’s disappearing far too quickly.

Juliet is a really nice release from Goose Island. I’ve wanted to try it for a while. Expectations were high. For the most part, they were met. I could handle maybe just a little less tartness and a few more bubbles. Those two tweaks would improve it in my book. Still a very impressive beer nevertheless.

A: Pours a ruby red color. A two finger bubbly white head forms, but recedes to nothing in a second. No lace at all.
S: Tart and acidic fruits. I enjoy the fruity character, but there is nothing else here.
T: Tart fruits like cherries. Muddled, kind of dirty malt. The tart acidic sourness lingers for a second. Then vanishes to nothing.
M/D: A light to medium body. Really high carbonation. Also really thin and watery. Not clean at all though. The high carbonation actually makes this harder to drink. Alcohol is present. Not a fan of the muddled malt character either.

This is a disappointment for me. Not that much is here. Just thin, acidic, and overly carbonated. This is not something I care to revisit, or finish for that matter. Not something I would recommend.

2012 bottle poured into a flute.

A - Ruby red with hints of brown and gold. Decently dark so that you can't see your hand on the other side. Lots of carbonation trailing upwards which quickly dissipates its small head

S - Tart raspberries and blackberries on the nose with a grassy and lemon funk. There is a nice oaky barrel presence as well

T - Much tarter than in the nose. Balsamic and white vinegar are up front to give it a tart bite. There is a sour raspberries in the middle that gives it a sour sweettarts flavor. The oak comes in the finish as well as a slight lemon peel. The tart raspberries linger on in the finish

MF - Lots of carbonation that give it a nice tingle on the tongue. Medium body that gives a nice slight creaminess. Tartness lingers on the tongue that makes you almost want to pucker your mouth

O - A tart and refreshing sour. Definitely the most tart and sour of the three sisters. Nice to see GI step up production of this and the other sisters to give the Midwest a nice and easily accessible sour option.

Presentation: A chilled bomber bottle poured into a tulip glass. 2012 vintage.

Appearance: Ruby red and light brown in color. Pours not much of a head.

Aroma: Really fruit forward. Big raspberry notes provide some nice tartness and sweetness. Some light lemon tartness with a strong undertone of funk and brett. Really nicely balanced.

Taste: The berry notes stand out here as well. Huge raspberry and lemon notes. Really tart, but also a ton of fruit notes. Drinking this relatively fresh was a smart choice as the funk and brett notes are nicely developed but don't overwhelm the fresh fruit notes. Alcohol is really nicely hidden.

Mouthfeel: Light to medium bodied and plenty of carbonation. Very easy to drink.

Overall, a really impressive fruit foward wild ale. Definitely one of the more impressive examples of an example fruited wild I have had. The berries provide a nice touch of raspberry flavors. Nice balance of tart and sweet. I would definitely enjoy revisiting this. Definitely exceeded my expectations.

Bottled January 26, 2012.

Beer is a cloudy dark amber pinkish hues and a smallish white head that fades very quickly.

The most immediate smell is brett. Smell certainly suggests that this will be a funky, sour beer. Really smells like a lambic. Oak. Berries.

Flavour is not quite as funky as the nose suggested, but this is still a funky brew. Tart with a yeasty, barnyard-like flavour, The blackberries are subtle in comparison, but plainly there and provide a nice counterpart to the funk. Vinous. I would not have noticed the rye without looking for it but once recognizing it it is clearly there, a bit of a spicy taste. Very good.

Full bodied, moderate carbonation. Rather sticky. Dries the mouth somewhat, a function of the tartness. Feels like tannins in red wine.

Overall, a very nice beer. Very tasty indeed.

Another good fruity sour from GI, fairly long and enjoyable.

Presentation: 22oz brow capped bottle. Simple and elegant white label with gold touches, purple name typography with the name and a white background with the Goose Island branding. Side narrative includes serving instructions, main style and characteristics, and cellaring character. Shows bottling date (01/26/12/), and Alc. by Vol. (8%). Served in a snifter.

A - Deep amber/crimson pour with a short lived fizzy head, small memory and lacing.

S - Nice tart nose with good touches of berries and a dash of vinous memories…

T - Tart and fruity, malty sweetness, light blackberries, distinct bitter underflow, acidic touches..

M - Medium/light body with tingly and persistent carbonation. Dry and fruity lingering finish.

O - Nice tart, fruity flow, complex enough.

Notes: Less of a memorable aroma than Lolita but a better rounded brew, although not that far off the range.
