22oz bomber split between two 16oz snifters.
Thanks again to kenpo23 for this one!
Jet black as it comes out. In the glass, the beer is midnight black with the faintest brown line where the carbonation seeps up. Head is rather non-existant, giving a mere finger of head which recedes quickly leaving no real film or lacing.
Molasses, dark chocolate raisins, and a sweet roasted character that is absolutely divine. The hops attempt to fight through, though are kept muted. A mild pepper/zesty nature towards the end.
Hops provide a fresh/bright start, but one that is quickly suppressed. A load of sweet roasted goodness comes in strong and dominates your palate. Starts off as a toned down coffee, though as it warms it becomes rather well balanced. After the sharp roasted bite, with a bittersweet mid-body, coming off as dark chocolate. Hops finish is rather strong, giving a nice resurgence of citrus notes, though muted by the strong malt base.
Not as viscous as I was hoping, but still had a nice thick mouthfeel. Carbonation is quite lacking, but if it was anymore, I think it would have muted the rather strong flavors. Alcohol is noticeable towards the end, and gives a great warming affect that is well appreciated in the cooler months.
