Bomber dated 2/19/10. About a week under two years old. It poured a thick black with a thin coffee colored head into the *NEW* Flying Dog glass. Hardly any retention.
Smells quite chocolatey and boozy. Caramel malts, a bit fruity and a touch of smokiness.
Taste is quite bold. Sweet milk chocolate. Dark dried fruit. Charred oak and bourbon flavors bring the alcohol to the front. Bottle says "hoppy" but after two years I'm only picking up a slight coffee-like bitterness and not much in the way for hops.
Full bodied with a chewy, velvety mouthfeel. It's a little hot. This brew verges more on the edge of a barleywine if not for the strong chocolate and malty flavors. Still though, I enjoyed this one, even though it's a bit intense.
