Well darn if the reviews from 2014 don't keep coming. Drank this for the Chad Mendes/Connor McGregor fight that cost me a big parlay. I think the beer was 3-4 years old when popped.
Pours a black and thick pour, light brown head 3/4" deep. All roasted barley going on here, seems like a hefty hop bill too, this could be one of those stouts pushing 100ibu as well.
Taste definitely confirms the high ibu level, but with a massive dump truck full of scorched earth barley, its not like you taste the bitter hoppiness here like you would in a dipa. No adjuncts. Just a massive truckload of the basic ingredients in a beer. There was nothing in terms of sweetness with this beer, I don't know how anyone perceived that. It has a pretty dry back end and mouth feel to it. The alcohol tastes like maybe a 9% beer instead of clocking in at almost 12%. Very similar to their beer Big John. I imagine the base for BCS is pretty similar too. A little bit of a dark fruit note as it warms.

Poured from a 22 oz bottle dated 02/06/2011 into the test glass
A - Dark as chalkboard, Gentle carbonataion leaves a thin mocha ring clinging to the glass wall. 7 charachters in search of an exit style.
S - Burnt dark chocolate brownie, just the crusty part, cocoa, a hint of coffee, vanila and some tannins. mature port and a hint of tobacco, and oddly some orange liquer
T - Dark choclate, some black pepper, anise, hints of vanilla, cigar wrap tobacco, mollases, and the slightest bit of smoked wood
M - Silky, delightful on the palate, sweet start, velvety cocoa, a nice wash of bitter, then only memories.
O - Spectacular, the cellaring has treated this well. So soft on the palate, with that delightful orange liquer and cocoa element. If I was smart I would have bought 2 back in 2011

2011 vintage; drank on draft 9/18/14 @ Fischman's.
Brown/black hue.
Dark khaki head; nice lace.
Marshmallow, mild pickle & mild cherry flavors.
Thick mouthfeel.
Sweet pickle, black licorice & mocha flavors; dark cherry & marshmallow emerge as this warms.
Odd but interesting.

22oz bottle. Bottling date is '02/19/10'.
Black colored body. Minimal light tan head, turns to an active surface bubbling. Leaves just a couple of tiny spots of lacing.
Aroma of dark roast, with light caramel and chocolate.
Taste is dark roasted malt, with sweeter chocolate and more bitter coffee. Dark fruits of fig and prune. Caramel and toffee. The aftertaste brings on a touch of vanilla, leather, and tobacco.
Mouth feel is a little more than medium, with a chocolate syrup texture. Lower carbonation.
The flavors are much more expressive and complex than are the smells. Quite amazing that the beer has maintained in the bottle for more than nine years. This beer has not developed a sour tartness often found with aged stouts. At five years in the bottle this must have been stellar. As experienced the beer is too sweet to be consumed at a brisk rate.

3/6/10 bottling date on the label. My buddy and I were expecting it to be a mess given the age and we were very happy with how well it held up. I have another bottle from 2012 I think and now I’m excited to drink it. It still had a nice bitterness and dry fruit flavor to it. Prune and fig came up prominently. I know I read a long time ago that this was the base to BCS, but who knows. Goose has and always will do their stouts well. I’m saving this empty bottle for the collection. Next time I’ll taste test it versus a Darkness of the same year to see who wins.

I think it’s past it’s prime, should’ve drank it a year ago because it’s a little oxidized.
