Appears completely black with a tan head that is short lived. Thick and syrupy looking beer.
Wood and coffee are the two strongest scents up front, with plenty of leather and candy (licorice) accompanying it. Vanilla gives it a sweet smell as well, almost too sweet. Hopefully the taste isn't saccharine.
The taste is...saccharine. Sweet, cakey bread with vanilla icing and a whole lot of coffee and bitter chocolate. However the alcohol is well hidden and doesn't put the beer completely over the top. After three or four sips my mouth is fully coated and my taste buds destroyed - won't be tasting anything else fully for the rest of the night.
Silky smooth mouthfeel with just a bit of heat at the tailend of the sip is the best part of the beer. Really like how the beer is thick but just thin enough to flow freely. Drinkability is decent for being an overly sweet 13% abv beer, but half a glass seems about the right amount to me.
