I had this on tap at GI - Wrigleyville...A dark brown pour, nothing special with a light tan head, ok retention and lacing...A chocolate roasty aroma that has some nuttiness to it, interesting...The taste is pretty good, roasty nuts again, a little coffee. A really nice feel in the mouth. Easy to drink.

A decent brown ale.

Served on tap in a 20 oz. imperial tulip pint glass at Goose Island - Clybourn (July 21, 2010).

An English Brown ale, hopefully a nice malty treat. The GI beer menu description: "Chestnut hued English style brown ale with subtle notes of chocolate, honey, and fine tobacco."

Eyes: Pours a rich dark brown, near black and almost opaque unless held to a light source. A fine layer of ecru foam cover the surface, with light lacing and resiliency.

Nose: A modest, malty aroma. I get hints of tobacco and nuts, though not so much of the advertised honey or chocolate.

Tongue: Very rich and above all very nutty. There are is a significant and complex malt (roasted brown bread, chestnuts, burnt chocolate) character, with almost no hops detectable.

Mouth: Appropriately carbonation, and a moderate to heavy mouthfeel, though nowhere near a stout.

Libation: Let's go down the list; 5.5% ABV, smooth, very nutty, and flavorful. I like this version and would gladly come back for more.
