On tap at the Goose Island Tap Takeover at Market in Rocky River. After some detective work by Eddy, we have lift-off. The lines got crossed, uncrossed, and crossed again. But in the end we figured out what was really what!
This beer is a dark brown color with much cloudiness. The head retention isn't up to snuff, even compared to other Goose wheats. But it looks nice nonetheless with a great chestnut and mahogany color.
Described as "a dark wheat American ale with notes of smoke and caramel from the malts used. 5.0% ABV."
The beer smells of big-time wheat, chocolate, caramel, and a touch of smoke. Really interesting and expressive. Wheat isn't an afterthought either, it's just really well integrated. Love it!
The taste is composed of a nice roast and toast plus some wheat as well. Some slight smoke and sweetness work very well. Interesting and makes sense to me the way everything comes together. Slight tartness as well from the wheat. I've never had a beer with this sort of a flavor profile. It is very good indeed.
The mouthfeel is creamy and smooth, with lower carb working well with the wheat. The aftertaste is all sweet with a slight kiss of wheat tartness. A truly unique beer.
