Deep mahogany color, aromas of biscuit, toast and chocolate, rich malt body and clean finish with a touch of hop flavor and bitterness

Appearance-
Devastatingly dark for a brown ale, little light can creep through. A corn yellow head rises nicely.
Smell-
Smokey, nutty, sweet. It smells like autumn.
Taste-
The nuttiness and malt sweetness are there from the nose, but the smokey flavor comes through with a bitter that comes through with the hops, but almost taste like an espresso.
Mouthfeel-
This is where I think most brown ales fail, and this one does a good job by not lingering to long. The carbonation is crisp and adequate.
Overall-
One of the best brown ales I have had, and it is largely due to the bitter hop balance at the end.

2/14/16 Chicago - (Goose Island Clybourn Brew Pub $6 16 oz draft pour into Nonic glass). Pitch black pour, medium tan cloudy head. Strong coffee aroma, with hints of toffee and chocolate. Very sweet chocolate and mild roast coffee taste. Medium body, easy drinking. Overall very good offering.

On cask into an imperial pint glass. Great lacing and aroma from a deep caramel clear brown color. Rich mouthfeel. Roasty and smooth. Would like to try non-cask to see how it compares.
