This is a nice place to go on a summer evening. Located on the Illinois River, the atmosphere outside is nice, however on the inside it is your average family restaurant. Service was pretty good from the waiter, however the bartender gave me the wrong beer. I ordered a Three Floyd's Alpha King pale ale and when it came out, it looked, smelled and tasted like some sort of macroish lager (still don't know exactly what it was). I got that beer for free, but I would've like to have the Three Floyd's. I also had Founder's Dirty Bastard which was served to me correctly. The selection here is pretty good. There are some other good places in Peoria as well, but for a family chain restaurant to have 110 beers was pretty impressive. They had basically all the midwestern craft brews: Founders, Dark Horse, Schlafly, etc. although Goose Island was noticeably missing, which I thought was weird considering that we're in Illinois. Food was ok, but a little bit pricey for what you got. Beer prices were what you would expect. Overall a decent place.

Hit this Old Chi's everytime I'm back "home". Selection of brews is typical of any other Old Chicago I've been to: good selection of draft and bottles. It's always nice to hit stores not in Colorado as there's always some midwest brew I either have never had or haven't had in a long time. Food is good as all Old Chicago's are with a plus being the lunch buffet. Wish the Denver metro area stores did the buffet; I'd be in for lunch a whole lot more than I am now! Service was a tad on the downside last time I visited--server we had was rather slow and was unsure what the rotating brews where, etc. I'll chalk that up as just a bad night.

This visit took place January 3, 2009...

Been to a lot of pubs with a abundance of lagers and ales. Chicago Style is one of those special ones though.

The bar keeps are true professionals, that serve beers in their proper glassware. They also answer questions you have on certain beers. One really cool note is that when not busy, they will stand by you and just talk about the thing we all love. Beer.

Been here two other times before my latest visit on January 3, 2009. They always have something different. All you have to do is ask.

On this occasion the bar keep asked "What can I start you with?" as I approached the bar with my beer geek reviewing kit in hand. I said "Give me something special and rare." He goes back in the cooler and brings me two bottles to pick from. A special pink bottle 750 of Rogue with sculls on it. To be honest I can't remember what it was. The other was a 750 Boulevard Bourbon Barrel Quad. I picked the Boulevard to drink.

The brew was pour professionally in a snifter. The beer was the highlight of my week.

I'm 32 right now and have been a beer geek for only eight years or so. But with my modest regard the selection and professionalism of the beers served at Old Chicago stand very strong.

Beer is respected there, but so is the good times that go with it.

The 120 S.W. Water St. Peoria, IL 61602 Location has a beautiful view of the Illinois river and the "I don't know what the name of that bridge is." Ha Ha Ha!!!

The pizza is fantastic to. But I wasn't there for the pizza.

Bottoms up,

Edit 7/18/08: I bumped the selection up, as this Old Chicago generally gets a few more interesting beers than the Grand Prairie location.

Original Review:
This is basically the same as the other Old Chicago in Peoria (located within the Shoppes at Grand Prairie), so I gave it the exact same ratings. This one is in a location more convenient to other bars, as it is in downtown Peoria on the riverfront. It is located within a few blocks of all of Peoria's downtown nightlife, including Kelleher's Irish Pub and Rhodell's Brewery for beer geeks. There is an outdoor seating area that can be nice in the summertime - there's nothing really special about it, but just being outside is nice! See my BeerFly review of the other location if you'd like more details.
