Visited this establishment on 5/18/11.

A: Very similar to many gastropubs I've visited out in Orange County, California. Clean, dim lighting and lots of dark wood decor. Wasn't particularly busy when I visited, but I can imagine it being pretty packed by the time the weekend roles around.

Q: The beer quality was surperb! One of the first places in awhile where the beer made me sit back and say "WOW!".

As for the food, it was well prepared and offered high quality meats and sides with almost every dish.

S: Not bad, not exceptional...but overall, got everything in a timely manner.

S: Offered about 15 to 20 beers (both tap and bottle). Ordered a flight first, and like I said earlier, was really impressed with how every beer came out.

What I enjoyed the most was the combination of both traditional and rare style beer offerings.

F: Ordered the Lamb Burger and Mac n' Cheese with my girlfriend. She wasn't a fan of the burger, but I devoured it pretty quickly. The Mac n' Cheese was a bit dry for my liking...but overall, decent food for the price.

Overall: A must try! Cheers!

so sick these guys are still doing it here, where i believe the started it all. so many beers on that arent what we see from them in other markets. no bourbon county on, and i dont think any of the bottled regulars either. cool old brick building, bustling vibe, lots of people, and a blue collar old brew house right when you walk in from the side street. two sided beer menu, all were excellent that i tasted, and i had a real stoke going the whole time i was here, just being where this brand began was very cool. loved the berliner, enkoyed the oatmeal stout, and found the winter warmer delightful as well. the food was homestyle and simple, but quite good, and while the service wasnt memorable, there wasnt anything wrong with it either. prices were fair, especially for downtown chicago standards, and i would highly recommend this to anyone who visits the city. this is where it all began, and its a lot of fun. a cozy place to drink and a historical feeling experience. dont miss this.

On a day trip to Chicago, the Goose island brew pub was our last stop - and one I've been wanting to visit for a few years. There was about an hour wait when we checked in with the host so we took the pager and took a quick trip to the Binny's across the road. When we returned we found a spot at the bar and ordered a couple of beers that quickly came (a 3.2% Berliner Weisse for me and a pale ale for the lady). Once we got our beers the buzzer went off and we were seated.

The brew pub had a very established restaurant kind of vibe, no doubt they knew what they were doing and new how to run the place. There was a brewing system (15 BBL?) when we walked in and a few tanks visible from our table. Clean brick and a big island bar in the center, classy look overall.

The beer menu was extensive - full of the staple Goose Island classics (312, IPA, Honkers) some of there more exotic offerings with Sofie, Matilda, Juliet. Lots of one off beers (IPAs, Berliner Weisse, Stouts) and after a couple unique offerings while we figured out what to eat.. we settled on a bottle of Bourbon County Backyard Rye with dinner.

Standard pub fair with big burgers and fries, wraps and sandwhiches. The burgers we ordered were a great compliment to the beer, a pumpernick pretzel role on mine topped off the meal. Great stuff.

Price was moderate, and what you'd expect from a restaruant with a similar vibe. the BCBS Backyard Rye was $30 and though I've had it before was well worth the price to share it with the lady.
