Original Review 7/9/05

Goose Island has a nice neighborly brewpub atmosphere. They have a free jukebox with a decent music selection and enough tv's to catch any sports action. They even have some of the satellite sports packages to get out of market games.

The service is quick with food or drinks unless it is peak hours, which is expected. They are also friendly and it is very easy to strike up a conversation with the bartender when they are not busy. The bartenders/waitstaff can only answer basic questions about the beers which can typically be found in your menu anyway. My only real complaint about the service is when I ask questions (about promotions/mba program, etc), I always get the answer, "they don't tell me those kind of things."

There are typically 10-15 Goose beers on tap and 1 cask beer. They have a great variety of quality beers with many different styles so everyone should be able to find one they like. They also have a list of what is brewing so you know what is coming up. If you ask how a beer is they will give a little sample to try before you order.

The food is very good. They serve a wide variety of dishes covering all your typical bar food and some other dishes I usually don't see in a bar like jambalaya.

Overall this is a great brewpub that has become my regular hang out. They also have enough parking to find a spot even at peak times (a major plus in Chicago). Don't miss their tastings on the last Wed of every month. I just wish they would keep the beers on tap updated better on their website so I don't miss all the special limited releases.

Note: Review is updated as of 9/8/06. I bumped the service up from 4.0 to 4.5. The service has improved since my 1st review with the bartenders now knowing a great deal about the beer and have gone out of their way to provide good serivce a number of times.

On a day trip to Chicago, the Goose island brew pub was our last stop - and one I've been wanting to visit for a few years. There was about an hour wait when we checked in with the host so we took the pager and took a quick trip to the Binny's across the road. When we returned we found a spot at the bar and ordered a couple of beers that quickly came (a 3.2% Berliner Weisse for me and a pale ale for the lady). Once we got our beers the buzzer went off and we were seated.

The brew pub had a very established restaurant kind of vibe, no doubt they knew what they were doing and new how to run the place. There was a brewing system (15 BBL?) when we walked in and a few tanks visible from our table. Clean brick and a big island bar in the center, classy look overall.

The beer menu was extensive - full of the staple Goose Island classics (312, IPA, Honkers) some of there more exotic offerings with Sofie, Matilda, Juliet. Lots of one off beers (IPAs, Berliner Weisse, Stouts) and after a couple unique offerings while we figured out what to eat.. we settled on a bottle of Bourbon County Backyard Rye with dinner.

Standard pub fair with big burgers and fries, wraps and sandwhiches. The burgers we ordered were a great compliment to the beer, a pumpernick pretzel role on mine topped off the meal. Great stuff.

Price was moderate, and what you'd expect from a restaruant with a similar vibe. the BCBS Backyard Rye was $30 and though I've had it before was well worth the price to share it with the lady.

Wife and I visited & we both loved our experience. Great beer line up (wish we had distribution of more of those in Tx). Food was great, bartenders were quick polite and gruff. Tasting and tour were the crowning jewel for me. Clybourn is smaller of the 2 breweries but still great to see it all in action. Can't wait to return

Goose Island Clybourn is about what you would expect from a taproom: Lots of brick and wood with a funky industrial background. Lots of noise and really busy on the weekend evening we visited.
Great atmosphere and even better service. That was really the highlight for me, the very helpful and friendly barkeeps. They got us flights quickly, kept refilling my water and talked about some of the beers.
The beer itself ranged from a couple that seemed a bit off-style to me and not very good to excellent. We did not try the food so I cannot comment on that. Overall, a fun pub and I would go back.
