The Old Man had a medium to light copper color, with a small, fine head and a wisp of lace. Nose not overly strong, but I got whiffs of malt which sort of reminded me of a Maerzen. Body/tongue were actually pretty good! A bit of biscuity malt at the outset, but hops are the main story, though not in-your-face. It was a smooth hop finish, not really bitter at all. I do remember having this a few years ago, and thought it was considerably hoppier. Has the Shipyard shift toned it down? More of a Ringwood presence? Who knows...

My first impression of Old Man Ale is that it is fairly average. It reminds me of a more flavorful version of the standard American macro brew. The general appearance is similar to a slightly darker version of Miller. The smell and taste aren't that far off either. Its light on hops. Though you can taste the malts in this one. Nothing really that stands out. Overall, it is a very drinkable beer. I could see enjoying a few on a hot summer day.

A nice all around Pale Ale. Golden-brown color that pours a fairly thick head that leaves quite a bit of lace. This was actually a pleasant surprise. Sweet malty taste with balancing hops and a crisp mild bitter finish. Not amazing but nicely balanced and easy drinking. I'd have it again.

This beer was reviewed as an English bitter, as I believe it best fits this style as opposed to the noted American amber ale style.

This was poured into a pint glass from the bottle.

A - crystal clear golden color with thick head that settles somewhat into a well retained collar

S - crystal malty scent with a very faint trace of hops

T - balanced malt and hop characters in the flavor; there's some bread-like and caramel qualities in the malt and it finishes somewhat dry from the hops

M - medium-light body with moderate to high carbonation

D - This is a decent English bitter with loads of simple flavors that are well crafted. I also view this as a good session beer, especially around its locale, where it's fresh. I would also consider this a great 'gateway' to craft beer.

This is a fairly light copper colored brew. Pours a foamy head that persists throughout the drinking. Almost no aroma when poured. Easy to quaff but not much reward for doing so. I probably could have been convinced that this was a lager if I didn't pour it myself. Not much to distinguish it for a small brewery. If you really like this, just buy a bud and save yourself a few bucks.

Pale gold pour, with a head that is airy and fades quickly. Light malt aroma, a little grainy, with a touch of floral hops. Very bland to taste, just light malt and mild bitterness. The body is rather thin as well.

I like the label, with the tree and nice spring background. Poor beer, though.

Received a 12 pack from a friend who signed me up for a Beer of the Month Club. This was among the January Selection.

A: 12 oz. Brown longneck bottle.

P: Poured a clear yellow with a white foam head that quickly disappeared to a scant cover and no lacing.

S: Yeast...yeast..yeast..ist his a belgian or an ale?

T: Unlike the smell it is a mild tasting drink with starts of feint sweetness, no grains, malt or hops then nothing....

M: A yawner for the mouth as it tastes sweet and the taste just stops cold.

D: If you are in this beer of the month club then you may get this brew..fortunatly only three of them! Drink one and then punt.

A monthly club selection for January.

Pours a very clear pale color with virtually no head or lacing. Not very aromatic either, with a very light sweet malt smell.

Light buttery malt flavor up front, but very weak hop presence. Medium body helps overcome thin watery taste.

Definitely a drinkable beer, but I wouldn't go out of my way for it. Despite all its flaws it is a decent beer.

One of my ...of the month selections. (Thanks DK!) My first impressions were a bit more positive than others on this page, apparently. Other than the name (didn't like it because I am one) I thought it was rather tasty and extremely drinkable. Would be a great session beer. Nice deep gold (almost amber) color in the glass, decent head that provided a bit of lacing, and just a hint of hops in the nose. Decent balanced taste, with light hops flavor and some slick buttery hints on the tongue. As it warmed, there was less hops and a tiny hint of alcohol in the flavor, but the malt shined through even more and made for a decent glass right to the end. Not bad. Worth a try.

Got this one with a beer of the month club membership. Isn't this supposed to be an amber ale? It was as pale as a standard macro. The thin head was nice and stayed throughout the entire session. There was absolutely no flavor up front, only a slight bitterness. The aftertaste was buttery and diacetyl. I just don't see any appeal in this beer.

I poured this beer into my tumbler at 50 degrees. The beer was a nice golden color with a pretty head. Unfortunalty the head went away very fast but did leave fair lacing somehow. The smell was hoppy which I thought was going to spell trouble. However the taste was not and was actually a little sweet I thought. I liked the beer for what it is and I will but again.

Poured a medium amber color with modest white puffy head. Poor retention.
Smell is light with some soft caramel notes present.
Taste is also significant for caramel. There are no hops to be found.
Finishes with more malt sweetness.
A very one-dimensional beer. Wouyld be decent to session.

12oz bottle into a pint glass.

A---It poured a pale golden with large white head.

S---Buttery yeast and green apple dominate the aroma.

T----Diacetyl, acetaldehyde, astringent and medicinal.

M---It was very thin and watery.

D---This is the first time I ever tried an offering from this brewery and I'm in no hurry to try another one. Drain pour

IMO the best offering from Nutfield. Poured from a 12oz bottle a dark rust color that leaves a thin white lace. The nose of this brew is sweet honey, cloves, very aromatic. The taste is similar to the nose honey, vanilla, cloves, buttery feel, with a nice bitter hop citrus finish to balance a heavy malt backbone.
