Dark beer with ruby brown highlights. Thin head with poor retention, by the time the server got it to the table it was nothing more then a thin collar.
Smell is faint but what is there is dark malts mixed with coffee and chocolates. Some dark fruit notes but they aren't discernible.
Taste is a slightly watered down version of the nose. There are light coffee and chocolate notes but they are weak. The main flavor is a roasted malt with a lingering creaminess from the oats.
Not a bad brew but I've had better stouts. This one is a good starter stout but it doesn't have rich bold flavors that I like in a dark beer. Kind of boring after the first few sips.

Like a dwarf, this stout was stout. Again, not the best stout I've had. It's okay. I think that most stouts bought outside piece pizza are better but taht's okay. Stout doesn't go well with Pizza anyway. Way to go piece pizza, you're doing just fine. No, really. You're doing good.

This is quite an oddity of a little Irish Dry Stout. Would be be fairly accurate if it weren't for the huge caramel flavor (not caramelized malt, but actual caramel). It adds a really nice flavor, almost making this seem like a dessert stout. Maybe not to style, but I liked it for what it is.
The beer pours to a nice black color with a small off-white head. Retention is poor, and lacing could be better.
The smell is where the caramel first comes into play. Sweet caramel aroma with an underlying coffee roast. Notes of vanilla.
The flavor is very similar. Has the bold real caramel sweetness up front, but then it dries out with a nice roasted malt flavor. Small coffee and vanilla notes. Doesn't linger on the palate.
The mouthfeel is fairly thin in body. Has a little bit of a dry, chalky feel to it, though not as much as the other beers I tried from Piece. Carbonation is smooth and creamy. Tastes like it may have been dispensed with a very small blend of nitro. Easy to drink and quite unique.

Reviewed from notes.
Pours dark brown with a slight tan head. Not much of any lace. Nose is roast with a bit of chocolate and coffee. Taste is really quite light and thin, which carries over into the mouthfeel. Drinks fairly average as there isn't much going in and this is quite light.

On tap at Piece Brewery in Chicago.
I haven't had a stout in a long time, as that is generally for me a winter drink. I ordered this one to change it up. This smelled and tasted malty as all hell. Roasted chocolate and coffee, taste was all bitter chocolate. The drink was a bit thin as other have mentioned, but it didn't bother me. I loved the dark dark color this like with many stouts. Overall a decent beer, not my favorite stout, but decent.

I hold the Piece brewpub in very high regard, so when the server recommended this beer because another on the menu was out, I went along. But I thought this beer was a bit of a miss. A touch flat and extremely mild in flavor, it seemed to me to be pretty boring, which isn't what I've come to expect from this brewery due to both experience and reputation.
Body was black and thin in appearance with a medium amount of head. Aroma was a touch roasty, but mostly imaginary. Flavor was oat-like, but again so mild as to not be anything other than disappointing.
This beer hasn't shaken my faith in this brewpub's ability to make excellent beers, but this is one I'd counsel you to avoid.
I had this on tap at the brewery and pizzeria.

Flat Iron Stout
A: Dark brown, beyond mahogany, but not quite black. Served with a very small bit of off-whitish head. Little retention results in a patchy surface coating and a ring around the edges. 3
S: Muted at first, but becomes more pronounced as it warms. Smells of heavily roasted malts, cocoa, coffee, and a faint bit of char. 4
T: Thin flavor of roasted malts followed by a lightly sweet cola flavor and some chocolate. Mild bitterness. Sweet finish. Simplistic and watered down. 3.0
M: On the thinner side of medium. Probably a little too thin for a stout. Low carbonation 3.
O: Good, easy drinking, but with a weak flavor and aroma, this one is more like a small stout than anything else. 3.5
