Served at the brewpub.

Figured if I was in the area, I'd give ol' Piece a visit and see what's what. Started with this guy, who pours a clear pale straw topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises lemon zest, light orange zest, light wheat, and a tiny touch of light toffee. The taste brings in more of the same, with a bit more orange zest and a hint of biscuit. The body is fairly light, with a very light moderate carbonation and a sorta watery-ish feel. Overall, a decent little kolsch, nothing too spectacular, but pretty drinkable on such a warm day.

Got a growler with their Sunday Special. Split the pizza and growler with the GF. Served in a pilsner glass.

A: Pours a clear golden yellow with a lively and bubbly body. A one finger pure white head forms on the pours and recedes to thin collar. Pretty standard.

S: Standard kolsch yeast with a light grassy hop flavor profile, pale malts and little hay.

T: The kolsch yeast hits you in the mouth right away and smooths out to nice light grassy hope profile on a pale malt backbone. The finish is light and hay-like.

M: Very light bodied with a nice carbonation with a clean and crisp mouthfeel. Refreshing to say the least with a high drinkability.

O: Easily drinkable with a balanced flavor profile. On a hot summer day this is a great beer.

Pale golden straw color with good clarity. A hard pour yielded a solid white head that quickly vanished.

Aroma consists of grainy malts, wet hay, and cooked veggies. Maybe just a hint of smokiness, too. Flavors of bready malt, very crisp, with a slight sour twang at the end. A little thin on the palate, but overall this is a good attempt by Piece at a notoriously difficult style.

On tap at Piece Brewery in Chicago.

Got this for my wife as she wanted something light and crisp on the hot day. This beer was definitely light and bordered on flavored water. However, it was surprisingly good and refreshing. No much smell to it, but it didn't have that gross smell of American Macros. Very smooth, slightly carbonated. Overall I'd get this one again if I didn't want anything heavy.
