I was in Louisville, KY over the weekend for a convention; this was the nearest Beerfly location to my hotel. Keg Liquors is along a busy commerical strip in Clarksville, IN. The store itself isn't very big; beer takes up about 1/3 of the store. The store has a high percentage of craft beer.

The service was oustanding. I asked if they allowed mix-and-match sixers; they don't, but they said that was only because they haven't yet figured out how they'd price mixed sixers. The staff was very helpful, pointing out beers they liked, allowing me to buy singles from any of the six-packs, and offering to carry my purchases out to my vehicle. The store has shelf talkers up (from RB, but nevertheless) as well. I got the sense that the staff enjoys and cares about craft beer.

The selection was great compared to what I can get in Nebraska; however, I'm guessing that the it was merely above average in Indiana. The selection focuses more on American craft beer than on imports. Prices were a bit more expensive ($7-10 for craft sixers) than I had expected.

Visited with shrubber on a visit to Louisville. Large selection, kind of ovewheleming for someone unfamiliar with the local brewing scene. Way too much to choose from, and almost all available as singles. Nothing glitzy or fancy, but you'll definitely find somethnig you haven't had before.

This is a fairly large store selling beer, wine, and liquor with a very large selection of beers available for sale. When I visited on a Friday afternoon, it was not too busy though there was a steady flow of customers but almost all of the customers were well known to the employees and beer geeks (or at least enthusiasts). There is a large/long aisle of shelving with beers on both sides, seemingly organized by brewery (and geography) along with the entire back wall of cooler cases of beer as well.

About half of the beer was available cold while the remainder was available on the shelves but seeing as there were very few windows (only in the door). Any beer that was not enclosed in a box was available for purchase in singles and once you got a 6-pack worth there was a discount to bring the price back to approximately what it would have cost to buy the 6-pack. As a first time beer shopper in IN, I was impressed with the large selection of in-state breweries but there was also a pretty good selection of other regional breweries.

The service was great - I first encountered the manager/owner who was really helpful and pointed out the spots in the store that I would want to check out for the more sought after beers and pointed out many new breweries (to me) that I might want to give a shake to... Very friendly, very helpful, and an all around nice guy.

Definitely a shop that I would like to stop by the next time I'm in the greater Louisville area.

Im a Louisville boy. Born and raised. I, like many other Kentuckians have always been of the opinion that the only reason to go to Indiana was for fireworks. That was before I found the Keg. Now there are two good reasons!

One of the best stores I have ever found for anything I have ever been interested in is the Keg. Not only are they stocked with more amazing craft and import brews than you can drink in a year (try it, I dare you), but the special releases they get in weekly are simply amazing. You BAs know how it is. There is a limited release and you go from store to store trying to find it. No store around Louisville or southern Indiana gets a consistent order of THE limited release of the week. Or month. Or year. EXCEPT the Keg. It never fails. Every week there is something Todd gets in that I am amazed by, be it a craft release from California or a Loon from Belgium. If youre looking for it, odds are he has it or is getting it. Most owners are content with just getting in whatever the vendors tell them is available, but Todd is a BA. He is into craft and you can tell. He makes sure that his store gets the releases you wont find at any other store. Every other store around Keg, be it to the east or west, can only try to be like Keg, but they never will be. Not to mention the fact that his staff is helpful, nice and knows what they are talking about. They know the product on the shelves, and most of them they have tried.

I honestly do not want to think about the countless limited releases I would have missed out on had it not been for the Keg being there. You owe it to yourself to stop by the store even if youre just passing through. We all know there are those shops that we frequent whenever we are visiting from another city. Go to the Keg once and this will be your stop for Louisville. I promise.

I travel quite a bit and whenever I am in Louisville, or Southern Indiana, I always stop by the keg to stock up. Todd is the definition of beer advocate and will go out of his way to show you beer you may enjoy or help you in anyway he can.

It may not be the cheapest prices you can find beer, but the extra $0.50-$1.00 you pay here is absolutely worth it.

Probably the best place to grab a few beers to take home in Southern Indiana. Definitely worth the drive for me.

The atmosphere is of a standard liquor store. A few aisles of liquor and wine (a small section of cider and mead too), with two long aisles of beer. One being domestic and the other side being imports. Mostly bombers and 750s, but some four packs as well as variety packs and 12 packs. A glassware section with maybe 15-20 different very reasonably priced glasses. A line of cooler doors 8-10 doors long of cold four packs, six packs, bombers, 750mls and they encourage you to mix and match a six pack to take home.

Employees there are friendly and knowledgeable. They always approach you and ask if you need help or a suggestion, or tell you what they have in that is new. Most are enthusiastic to talk about beer, and are more than willing to help you take beer to your car. I also believe they hold tastings once a week but unfortunately I haven't ever been able to make it out to one. They also update their product list atleast weekly with new beers on their website, and keep good track of what is in stock and not. As well as let you know if something is in limited supply.

Their selection is stellar. Tons of American craft and micro, as well as a whole aisle jam packed with imports. They have plenty of beers you can't find anywhere else in the area, as well as plenty of harder to find breweries and overlooked styles of beer. It seems like they pride themselves in their home state selection of beer, and have plenty of Indiana breweries to pick from. And like I said, if you don't feel the need to pick up an entire four pack or six pack of beer they are more than happy to sell you one bottle or can. This is the first place I could ever find the harder to find imports and the place I'd go to get my Three Floyds before Kentucky saw distribution. A lot of firsts were had for me at this store, and it's a place I enjoy giving my business to even if it's a good thirty minute drive for me. Also, it seems as though their turnover on stock is a bit better than most other places for beers that seem to sit at other places and get stale (ahem, Dreadnaught). Prices are pretty reasonable too.

Overall, a fantastic little liquor store with a wonderful selection and staff. This is the place to go when visiting Louisville to get your harder to find imports and regional craft and American micros. I highly suggest this place, and have turned on a few friends to their store. It seems like the only thing they are missing is a growler station but as it stands right now, growler fills are not legal in Indiana at liquor stores. However, I have been told that once they are (which could be soon) they will be offered at The Keg. This is the place to go when in Louisville or southern Indiana for beer to go.

Shame on me for not reviewing Keg Liquors yet. I live about 25 miles from here on the far side of Louisville, so I don't get to visit as often as I would like. But if I am over in Southern Indiana for any reason, I make it a point to stop by.

Located just a short drive off of I-65, it's an easy find. It looks unassuming from the street. Look for the vintage looking Keg Liquors sign. Inside you'll find a very spacious, nicely layed-out, and well-stocked store. And you'll find your typical selection of macro brews, (bud, miller, coors), as well as a nice selection of wine and spirits, (whiskey, rum, vodka, etc.). But, you're not here for the typical liquor store stuff, are you?

Their selection of craft and import brews is simply amazing for a smaller store like this! Two rows and several coolers stocked with a massive selection of imports and microbrews. Lots of rarities that you probably aren't going to find anywhere else near here. Understand that there is a local chain of mega-liquor stores here in Louisville (and throughout the state of Kentucky) called Liquor Barn, which has a huge selection of beers. Keg Liquors has tons of beers that even Liquor Barn doesn't have!

Keg Liquors is absolutely world class! The staff are extremely friendly, knowledgeable, and talkative. This is especially true for the owner, Todd. The man knows a hell of a lot about beer!

If you are visiting Louisville or Southern Indiana, do yourself a favor and pay a visit. They do frequent beer tastings, and you simply must come out to their annual "Fest of Ale" beer festival!

On a lazy rainy Monday, I decided a beer run was in order. After skipping through Louisville several times without a stop in, I had to make the special trip.

As I had heard about for years, Todd has an amazing store. But at first, the exterior appearance does not take on the any architectural demeanor that is representative of the beverages inside. A long slender concrete block building is painted brick-red, one story, gabled roof... it kinda looks like a cleaned up garage. The retro 'Kegs' lighted sign feeds into the awkward appearance.

Ok, get past that and get inside. Although fairly small, the interior is open, well lit, and very clean. Fairly simple in its layout, the wall of coolers have a mix of American crafts, Imports, and macros. No pretention at all, very inviting upon the step through the door. Two rows of shelves are well organized with one dedicated to craft beers and the other to wine. No food except for the front counter snacks.

On this visit, I purchased Fantome Hiver, Cantillon Gueuze, Weihenstephaner Vitus, Great Divide Oak Aged Yeti, Victory Storm King, Olfabrikken Porter, Three Floyds Dreadnaught, Alpha King, Struise Black Albers, Sinberychoff Porter, and mamma Mia Pizza Beer. Other great brands that I saw were Mikkeller, Nogne O, Brownings, Hoppin' Frog, Dupont,... The list goes at least 300 strong with the high-end craft beers.

I'm sure the wines and liquors are equally as nice but I wasn't particulaly interested in any of that.

Getting in and out is a breeze. Located just off of the Lewis and Clark Parkway, and about a mile off of I-65. A row of parking aligns the building and was not a problem.

Both Todd and the gal who was helping out were both very friendly, informative, eager to help and even go out of their way to entertain all special requests.

Todd's store is as good as any that I have visited in the region. He carries a lot of beers that aren't available in Kentucky. Keg's belongs in the conversation with Asheville's Bruisin' Ales and Merimont's Dilly Deli. It's a must-stop for any BeerAdvocate traveling through the Louisville Metro area.

I'm amazed that I never got around to reviewing the Keg before now, considering that I'm in the place at least once every couple of weeks.

The keg is truely an outstanding beer store. They've taken what was essentially a small corner bud/miller/coors package store and turned it into a beer fanatics shopping mecca.

Todd and his team have amassed an incredible collection of beers from all over, with the Belgians probably being the best represented style. I won't pretend to know how many different beers the store is carrying now, but it's got to be something north of 200.

Prices are about average for the area. Staff is friendly and knowlegeable. They have beer tastings about once a month.

Definately the best selection in the southern Indiana/Louisville area. Stop by and check it out.

I happen to have in-laws that live less than a mile from this store which is very convenient. Another bonus is the fact that there is a quality BBQ place next door. The store is small but the beer section is filled to the brim with craft beers. I was able to pick up Great Divide, Centennial, Bell's and Founder's products while visitng. They carry many other products including but not limited to: Rogue, Abita, Avery and Brooklyn. I now look forward to visiting these in-laws again so that I can enjoy some good brews and BBQ.

I've made several trips to Keg's, and it is a must stop whenever I am in Louisvile KY. First time in the new store, and while it is roomier, does not seem quite as homey. Great selection. Anything you need available in IN is generally here, but the stock rotates, so not everything all the time. That's good though, as I always leave with a few surprise purchases. Notable on this trip: 2008 Saison Dupont Avec Les Bon Voux. Get you some if you have the means :)

I've sometimes found prices a bit high on some things, but low on others. Like most stores, it just depends. Knowledgeable and helpful staff, but not pushy. I like that. As I said, this is a must if you are in the area, and worth the drive if you are out of town as well.

Well, I finally made it to Keg Liquors. I'd been meaning to for about a year; ever since I really got into this craft beer thing. I was not disappointed.

At first, it seemed like a fairly small place. Howver, once I looked around, I realized about half the store is dedicated to beer, so it was great. I mainly went to pick up beers that are not distributed to Kentucky. The woman working there was very helpful in pointed out where these were. She also chatted up my pregnant wife for a while and was very friendly. I left with mixed 6-packs of Three Floyds and Victory, along with a bottle of Double Dead Guy.

Overall, this is the best place to buy beer that I've been so far. Great selection and great service. I'll be trying to get there as often as I can.

I am so happy that I made the two and a half hour trip to come to this place. Hands down probably the best store I have been to, without a doubt. The new building was very neatly organized, making for a very easy browse through the aisles and shelves.

Quality here is unbelievable! Just to give you a clue, here is what I bought:

Nogne #100
Pannepot
FFF Dreadnaught
FFF Alpha Klaus
FFF Behemoth
FFF Broodoo
Upland Cherry Lambic
Upland Raspberry Lambic
Val-Dieu Grand Cru
DFH 120

Service is top notch! I emailed Todd (the beer guy) the day before I came down and he replied within an hour of each of the emails I sent. Not only did he respond, he sent me a list of all the new beers they had plus other beers that I might have been interested in. At the store, employees were quick to offer help and were very knowledgeable about the beers they carried. Todd even helped carry beers to my car!

The only thing that wasn't perfect was the size of the selection. They still had plenty to choose from though. Even if they don't carry the most beers, the quality for the selection available is ridiculously good.

Bottom line: if you live within a 5 hour drive of this store, you have to stop here!

Wow. Easily the best beer store I have ever visited. I emailed Todd earlier in the week about Founders Breakfast Stout and he hunted down one of their last 4-packs and held it for me until the weekend. When I pulled up to the place I was a little skeptical but once you walk in it is like a damn candy store for a 7 year old. Todd was in and took the time to help me pick out some very random beers I otherwise would not have even noticed. I spent far more than I was planning on, but there is no store like his anywhere in Tennessee. Just a quick sampling:

Three Floyds
Dark Horse
Mikkeller
Don du Ciel (Peche Mortel)
Cantillon
Hoppin Frog
New Holland
Bluegrass Brewing
Stone
Founders
Nogne-O
And many many many more.

Also had alot of beers from small Inidana and Kentucky breweries/brewpubs which I always love to try out.

Todd and his employee (sorry! cant remember her name) were both incredibly friendly and helpful. They boxed up my purchases and helped me load them in the car. Todd then took the time to show me the new space next door that they are about to move into. Cant wait to see what he does with even more space.

This place is a certain cant miss if you are ever withing 100 miles of Louisville. I know I will be periodically making the three hour drive.

this place is awesome. i really don't buy beer anywhere else. todd is nice as hell and has an ungodly beer selection. they have pretty much every three floyds, tons of dark horse, founders and lots of other tasty stuff. if you want it and he can get it, he probably will. they're about to expand their building to about twice the size and so their selection is about to go through the roof. the only downside is that brews can be a little expensive, and since its in indiana you have to pay sales tax on beer. still awesome!

I went here on the way to Dark Lord Day and was thoroughly impressed. I met Todd (antzman) and immediately stated his place came highly recommended (by unclejedi). He instantly came from behind the counter and proceeded to help me and my friends find what we were looking for. He had suggestions of several regional brews from Dark Horse, Founders and FFF. He was extremely helpful and was honest when we asked him his opinion on certain beers. he was not pushy and did not try to sell us anything we did not want. He even went to the back and brought out a few 2004 Czars for us. While there, he even traded me for a beer I had brought. I will go there whenever I am in the L'vill, KY area. It's only 4 miles over the border into Indiana and very easy to find. Thanks Todd!

I drove to Louisville on Saturday for this place to pick up a four pack of the double crooked tree IPA from dark horse and a couple of other beers that I can not get in Ohio.

Although a 3 1/2 hour drive, it was worth it to me to get some rare seasonal greats.

Todd, was helpful and held back one of last 4-packs of the crooked tree for me. There selection was not extensive but they made up for it by representing the styles of beer with the best.

The store is small and shelf space is limited. The space they do have is filled with high quality and at a good price.

Thank you Todd for doing a great job fielding my questions prior to coming down and keeping your list updated online.

This is one of the best beer stores I've ever walked into. From the outside, if a person didn't know any better, this looks like a Bud/Bud Light kind of place. Walk inside and you know different really quick.

Todd is one of the most knowledgeable beer men that I've ever talked to. Every beer on his shelf that I asked him about, he knew all sorts of info about every one, when it's brewed, the taste characteristics. That goes a long way in a store with more bottles than a person can possibly choose from.

I picked up a case of assorted Three Floyds bombers, some Olfabrikken Porter, several Christmas seasonals, including De Dolle Stille Nicht, a Nogne Imperial Stout (that's a jewel right there) and there was tons of stuff that I could have picked up but ran short of funds. I wound up spending around $215 in there and could have easily spent another $300 on stuff that I wanted.

Drove 4 hours to get to this one place and it was worth the drive. I will definitely be making it again.
