Bottle: Poured a light amber color ale with a medium foamy head with average retention and no lacing. Aroma of fake butterscotch is not the most pleasant. Taste is also dominated by some bad butterscotch notes with light alcohol ester. Body is too thin and sweetness is kind of gross. I am not sure if Cognac was really used in this beer but it must have been one of the least interesting type. Another missed experiment from a strange brewery.

500 ml bottle poured into a shaker pint. Apparently this is the result of some agreement between the brewery and this particular store (Depanneur de la Rive) and is not available elsewhere. Date on label is not notched.

Look- Pours a deep brown with ruby highlights, three fingers of off-white head that falls quickly. Very nice lacing.

Smell- Bready, toasty, candied cherries, cocoa powder.

Taste- Hmmm....hmmm.... yeah. Not quite sure what to make of this. Herbal, butterscotch, pear, mint, vaguely sweet but in a medicinal way. Finishes with licorice-meets-mint-with-a-dash-of-fresh-fir-needles, whatever that might be.

Mouthfeel- Light, something of a cooling sensation/menthol feel, but maybe I'm imagining that. Briefly prickly carb smooths out, fairly easy drinking. High mineral character. Medicinal, watery liquor feel detracts from drinkability.

Overall- Not entirely sure what's going on here, but I didn't have a strong desire to finish the bottle with other beers on hand to try, so I didn't. Worth trying if you're really looking for something different, bolder flavors or something punchier would have served this beer well. It's growing on me a bit as it warms, and I can see the hints of brandy, but the whole is lacking something.
