I tried this at the brewery. It poured a clear dark amber with white head that did not leave much lace. The scent had some Christmas like zeal. The taste was nicely balanced and easy to drink with a sweet malt base and Christmas spice presence. The mouthfeel was medium in body with good carbonation. Overall its a decent beer.

Smells like mulled cider and embraces the season. I loved it upon my first few sips because it is not too heavy and is delightfully seasonal, but it did wear a little heavy on my palate upon continuing. Still, a nice fun Christmas beer that isn't too heavy at all.

Willoughby Brewing Company .: Wenceslas Christmas Ale :. Pint Tap

APPEARANCE: A deep dark ruby red, nearly black without serious light behind it. Thick off white head with really nice clinging lacing.

AROMA: Malty notes with hints of orange and spice, a sweet smell.

FLAVOR: This beer starts off with a solid malt backbone that quickly gives way to hints of orange, some honey sweetness and finishes off with noticeable spice, mostly cinnamon and some nutmeg.

PALATE: A medium bodied beer unbelievably smooth and clean with a spicy almost dry finish. Very flavorful and just a touch sweet, with a well hidden alcohol heat.

NOTES: I could pound growlers of this, but the 7.0% ABV would surely catch up quick. There is so little alcohol heat, what I did pick up was mild and only really showed once the beer started to warm up a bit. I think that this beer really opens up with a little warmth.

Brew master Jason Sims really hit a home run with this batch. Extremely drinkable and dark copper/red in color with a small head and no lacing. Nice and malty on the front end and the carbonation tickles your tongue. Then the spices start to slowly work their way into the picture and are subtle yet very well balanced. There is a slight bit too much nutmeg which lightly coats your tongue though. Other than that, this is one of the best Spiced Christmas beers I've ever had.

Had 2 pints of this from a growler that my good friend and I split from our recent trip to the brewery. Poured into my pint glass. This beer is a medium amber, deep red color. Not much head on mine, what little head there is settles quickly to a medium sized white ring lining the inside of my glass. Not coo much lace here. Aromas of cinnamon, maple, nutmeg, and spice abound here. Nice caramel malt flavor along with some mild spice and maple syrup brown sugar sweetness. Not much hops here at all, only a faint trace on the back end. Has a crisp , mild, medium bodied mouthfeel with moderate carbonation. Fairly easy to drink.

Semi cloudy brew..very small out of the Growler...AWESOME spciy nose...cinamin and nutmeg..some brown sugar...real nice sweet cinamin like sweet cinamin french toast...the taste is nicely done as well....I was worried from the nose that this would be too spiced...not at all...it has a wonderfull spiced flavor but it is not overdone..big sweet cinamin flavor.also nutmeg..some subtle vanilla notes...excellent holiday spiced brown...I think brown ales are great for beers like this because they allow the spiced flavors to shine through..body is a little on the thin side of medium and the carbonation is low but it's out of a growler that is a week old...

Overall, one of the best holiday/spiced ales I've had..First try from this brewery is a real treat....enjoyed it while watching the 2004 Rose Bowl..Got this from an employee whose family lives out near this place and you can bet I will get more everytime she goes back that way..
