Nothing outwardly special about the atmosphere or decor, yet it was quiet and the place just felt comfortable. A small bar, yet its location away from the main traffic of the restaurant is nice. The bartender Elliott (BA baconisaveggie) is not only superbly knowledgeable as a certified cicerone, but was very friendly and responsive to boot. The selection of 16 or so drafts was somewhat lackluster, but the bottle selection makes up for it if nothing catches your fancy. The pizza was some of the best that I've had. A must if you're in the area.

Visited in April 2013 (from notes):
Of the three establishments that I visited during my stay in the South Kansas City area, this was the best of the bunch. I visited on a rainy Tuesday or Wednesday evening, kind of late...after 8pm, so that weren't a whole of people in the place, which was bigger than it looked from the outside, but the place definitely had the feel of a good local place. The kind of place that does not get too many tourists...just locals, drinking and eating some very good pizza. Sat at the bar, which maybe had 10 seats to it, maybe. Sat down by a local, who had been there for a while, who knew the bartender, so I got hooked up for a few beers that I didn't have to pay for. I tried the Waldo combo with St. Louis style crust. It was good tavern pizza. Certainly not the best, but it was good enough that if I lived in the area, I would frequent the place and get the pizza. I had both the Avery Maharaja and Tallgrass Pub Ale from the tap. Both were good and served in proper glassware. They had maybe 20 taps, maybe a few less and a good bottle selection. Both had a good variety of styles and breweries. Also, if I recall correctly, they didn't serve liquor, which when looking for a beer place, that is my kind of establishment. The bartender knew his beer and was willing to let you try a beer first before settling on one. Overall, like I said above, this is a good establishment and one that I would visit again if in the area.

A little pizza joint tucked away in south Kansas City. I found this place to be very enjoyable. I have recently moved from Tulsa to KC. The atmosphere was low key and family friendly. We went here on a Sunday evening for dinner and drinks. A number of kids, but it also had 2 bar areas for the adults.
Service was pretty good as well. Both the bar keep and the waiter were informed on the beer lineup. I was able to order a flight of beer that allowed my to try four different beers (5oz each) for $5. This may be the norm for most places, but certainly not in Tulsa. The selection was fantastic for a little mom and pop pizza joint. Stone RIS, Founders, Firestone Walker, and a number of the limited Boulevard beers like Saison-Brett. Very nice bottle selection as well. Not just 12oz, but 650s and 750s as well.
Oh, and the food was nice too. I have head the salad bar is great, but we didn't give it a try. Both the hand tossed and thin crust were delicious. Each medium was about $15 each. If you like you pizza made with a little grease and a lot of heart, this is a place for you.

An amzing beer bar disguised as a urban family Pizzeria.
Some of the best pizza in K.C. as well as a good buffet/salad bar. But the star is the beer selection. Even though the actual bar is small and there can be a lot of local family's in around dinner or lunch (you will notice mom or dad usually have a nice pour along side them) they have a good local and varying selction of craft beer. They always seem to sneak in some quailty goods, I have had KBS on tap as well as a couple Bell's Hopslams when everyone else in town was out. Good draft selection and Great bottle selection.
If your in K.C. its one of the top 3 beer bars in town (along with Beer Kitchen and the Foundary) and while your at it go across the street to 75th street Brewery for some good local beer!

Stopped by on an early Monday evening last week. Lots of families, I don't know if it they have some sort of Family Night Special? They have a good quality tap and bottle list. The printed menu of bottles is divided by styles. They let you build flights of 5 oz samples which is pretty cool. They had run out of Evil Twin Imperial Stout which was a bummer. I don't see that brewery where I live. They had a Free State seasonal on tap. Plus, some other local brews. The pizza is good but not great. Same could be said of the cheese bread. Prices are typical for craft beer in KC and the Midwest. The service was pretty good, too. They let my brother-in-law redeem a 5 year old gift certificate - that was amazing! This is a nice place to find good beer and good pizza under one roof. Certainly worth a visit.
