A long-standing classic of the KC beer scene, i’ve passed by many times but for some reason have never been until recently. It’s got a nondescript appearance from the outside, a couple of beer neons and large, blinded windows. Inside it’s dim and a bit ramshackle, possibly in need of some light remodeling, but cozy at the same time. The vinyl booths don’t have much clearance for adults, but there sure were a ton of kids running around. The back room had a group of 40-50 and half were kids. Crowd noise was pretty loud, had to raise voices to have a conversation.

Service was timely and friendly, didn’t ask much about beer but they knew their list and proper glassware.

Beer selection was good, I stuck to the drafts but noticed Apex Predator on the bottle list. A seasonal from Torn Label and their coffee stout were both fresh and tasty.

Pizza was excellent, fresh quality ingredients and a trio of crusts to choose from. The Margherita and Choice Cut were great in their own ways, both generous with toppings. I’d return for the pizza for sure, but would ask to be seated away from large groups, as it’s a popular place that gets pretty loud.

Little pizza shop in the strip of shops and restaurants in Waldo. This is a Waldo (neighborhood in KC) and Kansas City classic. The pizza is fantastic. They offer a lunch buffet that proves well worth the money. Beer selection is pretty good here as well, although it's almost all offered from the bottle/can with an optional glass. Staff was helpful, although not anywhere close to a bubbling personality. They got the job done well though. Overall, a must-stop for those seeking pizza and beer in Kansas City.

Visited in April 2013 (from notes):

Of the three establishments that I visited during my stay in the South Kansas City area, this was the best of the bunch. I visited on a rainy Tuesday or Wednesday evening, kind of late...after 8pm, so that weren't a whole of people in the place, which was bigger than it looked from the outside, but the place definitely had the feel of a good local place. The kind of place that does not get too many tourists...just locals, drinking and eating some very good pizza. Sat at the bar, which maybe had 10 seats to it, maybe. Sat down by a local, who had been there for a while, who knew the bartender, so I got hooked up for a few beers that I didn't have to pay for. I tried the Waldo combo with St. Louis style crust. It was good tavern pizza. Certainly not the best, but it was good enough that if I lived in the area, I would frequent the place and get the pizza. I had both the Avery Maharaja and Tallgrass Pub Ale from the tap. Both were good and served in proper glassware. They had maybe 20 taps, maybe a few less and a good bottle selection. Both had a good variety of styles and breweries. Also, if I recall correctly, they didn't serve liquor, which when looking for a beer place, that is my kind of establishment. The bartender knew his beer and was willing to let you try a beer first before settling on one. Overall, like I said above, this is a good establishment and one that I would visit again if in the area.

A little pizza joint tucked away in south Kansas City. I found this place to be very enjoyable. I have recently moved from Tulsa to KC. The atmosphere was low key and family friendly. We went here on a Sunday evening for dinner and drinks. A number of kids, but it also had 2 bar areas for the adults.

Service was pretty good as well. Both the bar keep and the waiter were informed on the beer lineup. I was able to order a flight of beer that allowed my to try four different beers (5oz each) for $5. This may be the norm for most places, but certainly not in Tulsa. The selection was fantastic for a little mom and pop pizza joint. Stone RIS, Founders, Firestone Walker, and a number of the limited Boulevard beers like Saison-Brett. Very nice bottle selection as well. Not just 12oz, but 650s and 750s as well.

Oh, and the food was nice too. I have head the salad bar is great, but we didn't give it a try. Both the hand tossed and thin crust were delicious. Each medium was about $15 each. If you like you pizza made with a little grease and a lot of heart, this is a place for you.

An amzing beer bar disguised as a urban family Pizzeria.

Some of the best pizza in K.C. as well as a good buffet/salad bar. But the star is the beer selection. Even though the actual bar is small and there can be a lot of local family's in around dinner or lunch (you will notice mom or dad usually have a nice pour along side them) they have a good local and varying selction of craft beer. They always seem to sneak in some quailty goods, I have had KBS on tap as well as a couple Bell's Hopslams when everyone else in town was out. Good draft selection and Great bottle selection.

If your in K.C. its one of the top 3 beer bars in town (along with Beer Kitchen and the Foundary) and while your at it go across the street to 75th street Brewery for some good local beer!

Stopped by on an early Monday evening last week. Lots of families, I don't know if it they have some sort of Family Night Special? They have a good quality tap and bottle list. The printed menu of bottles is divided by styles. They let you build flights of 5 oz samples which is pretty cool. They had run out of Evil Twin Imperial Stout which was a bummer. I don't see that brewery where I live. They had a Free State seasonal on tap. Plus, some other local brews. The pizza is good but not great. Same could be said of the cheese bread. Prices are typical for craft beer in KC and the Midwest. The service was pretty good, too. They let my brother-in-law redeem a 5 year old gift certificate - that was amazing! This is a nice place to find good beer and good pizza under one roof. Certainly worth a visit.

Went to Waldo Pizza for lunch on a Sunday while visiting a friend in Kansas City.

It's in what appears to be a hipster-ey neighborhood, pretty far from anything else in Kansas City. The surrounding block has a few other bars and shops in what almost looks like the main street of a very small town.

The inside looks exactly like it should - part dive bar, part pizza restaurant, and part eclectic eatery with unique touches. Overall very laid back. We sat in a big comfy booth.

The beer selection is very good. Twenty on tap, with lots of locals, and a large bottle selection. They do have Bud Light, but that's the only BMC I saw on tap. Schlafly, Free State, Boulevard, New Holland, Tallgrass, Avery, Green Flash and more on tap.

The pizza was delicious. Perfect honey wheat crust. We got the spicy red sauce, which had a nice little zing. The meatballs were amazing - like an italian grandma would make. They also had a series of housemade ice cream, using milk from a local dairy. I tried one made with Schlafly Pumpkin Ale and pecans. It was fantastic.

Service was really top notch. Our waitress was informative and friendly without being overbearing. She had plenty of thoughtful suggestions when I asked for recommendations (and she was spot-on about the meatballs).

If this place was in Atlanta I would be a regular.

Stopped by here on a business trip to Kansas City and was very impressed with the beer choices in this seemingly 'regular' looking pizzeria. Not much fanciness to it inside or out. My waiter was very attentive without being obnoxious and the pizza was very very tasty. On to the beer. Great selection of bottles and on my visit had some really great drafts, and was able to get a flight which included Founders KBS and a couple other high ABV brews with no upcharge in price. Definately worth checking out.

Great pizza! My wife and I finally got to Waldo despite having lived in the area for a year. We took the kids with us and couldn't resist ordering one "kid pizza" and one "adult pizza." Both were fantastic.

The service and atmosphere were good, absolutely nothing wrong with them, but I didn't rate higher just because I have been some places that blew me away. The pizza here was the highlight.

The beer selection was good but not great. They had plenty on tap to choose from and a few that we hadn't yet tried. We each had a pint and then did a sampler of 4 small pours of some other beers. A very enjoyable experience. The only thing that will keep us from going here regularly is the fact that we are moving in about a month.

Waldo Pizza is one of those great little places that just happens to have one of the best beer selections in the area.

The atmosphere is nothing special, but it's not a total dump either. It's a well-worn, lived in shop with a group of waitstaff that is tattooed and weirdly dressed. That said, it's a great spot for families to come. The pizza is very good and fresh. Good quality ingredients, but not 'gourmet' by any means.

The service is always prompt and attentive. It's the kind of place that when your kid spills some water, they're there with a towel before you even look up. Sometimes, you do get the flustered newbie, but the rest of the waitstaff is always there to pitch in some help.

The beer selection is deceptively good. The tap room is always rotating through various special editions, limiteds and just great offerings. One night they had both 2010 GI Bourbon County Brand Stout and a one year old (2009) keg of KBS available along with Backwoods Bastard. The draft selections change quite often, so don't expect to go there and get anything specific on draft. The staff is knowledgable enough about the beer, and the bartenders can usually fill in the gaps.

The bottle list is also pretty extensive with a few gems to go along with the more regular offerings.

Waldo Pizza is a great spot for the beer lover.

Did a lunch here St. Patrick's Day

The vibe of this place wasn't bad, a bit neighborhood restaurant/shabby chic, wouldn't make me think beer Valhalla though

All beers were in great shape

Friendly and attentive service

Great and eclectic choice of sixteen taps & a bottle selection that had some fairly rare stuff (Boulevard BBQ & Brett Saison ). I'm sure I could always find some new or just hard to find here

Did the buffet, it was very tasty. Next time I will do Ala carte, damn tasty pizza

Beer & food were reasonably priced, a great stop in a pretty neat looking/fun KC neighborhood

Nothing outwardly special about the atmosphere or decor, yet it was quiet and the place just felt comfortable. A small bar, yet its location away from the main traffic of the restaurant is nice. The bartender Elliott (BA baconisaveggie) is not only superbly knowledgeable as a certified cicerone, but was very friendly and responsive to boot. The selection of 16 or so drafts was somewhat lackluster, but the bottle selection makes up for it if nothing catches your fancy. The pizza was some of the best that I've had. A must if you're in the area.

Visiting Overland Park, Kansas over the holidays and a friend had an internet coupon for Waldo Pizza. When I went to their website, I found it was a beer bar too. ( My lucky day )
What a place!

The pizza was fabulous and the beer selection was outstanding. I had Bear Republic 'Hop Rod Rye' and Sierra Nevada 'Celebration Ale' on tap
( first time for either, for me ) and I noticed an amazing bottle selection, including some imports I had never heard of.

Another great Pizza & Beer Place;

Waldo Pizza has great pizza and even better beer. It has one of the best selections of good beer at any bar in town.

One half of the building is a restaurant and the other half is a bar, but it's a good place to go to eat or drink.

The beers rotate often, about once a month, I think. You'll see some good stuff on-tap from abroad and from microbrews in the states. There's a good selection of bottles as well.

The service is usually excellent. It's family-friendly, but lots of young singles go there too.

I work fairly close to Waldo Pizza but had never checked it out since I always default to 75th Street Brewery when in the area. First thing which will be great for some and a bummer for others - Waldo Pizza has elected to go smoke free even though this is not yet law in KCMO. This is a big bonus for me, though I am certainly torn on laws being in place regulating bars in this way.

The beer list was wonderful and reasonably priced. Taps were good, but the bottle list is the best I've seen in KC, especially at the prices. Great beers at reasonable prices, and value beers for $1.

I scanned the 02/22/08 list here:

http://kcillini77.files.wordpress.com/2008/02/waldo-pizza-beer-list-2_22_08.jpg

My food rating is based on a friend's comment that the hoagie he ordered was the best sandwich he had enjoyed in a long time. I did not personally sample the food. I will be back and will be recommending for happy hours in the future/

With the expansion of the Tap Room, Waldo pizza has become one of the better beer bars in the Kansas City metro area. The Waldo area that it is located in is a nice area with ample parking. Their service is good, pizza is about as good as you can get in KC but their beer selection is what needs to be raved about.

They have an ever rotating beer selection. They always keep some great stuff on tap (Bells Best Brown Ale, Framboise) and rotate some pretty exciting stuff through. It seems like their is always something new every time that I go in, and honestly I frequent there pretty often.

With the expansion of Waldo Pizza and 75th Street Brewery right around the corner, I think the Waldo area is becoming a must stop for people who want to experience beer in KC.

Waldo Pizza recently completed an expansion into the space to the south, effectively doubling the restaurant space. However, the new space is a bar, pure and simple. But the most exciting part of this attractive new expansion is a full bar with fourteen carefully-selected beers on draught. Waldo Pizza prides themselves on carrying beers that are rare at any other place in town, much less on draught.

One selection from the new bar that caught my eye is the Rogue Morimoto Imperial Pilsner, which was available in pints for $3.50 as of the time of this review. Another bar in town has it on tap, but presumably due to the mounting costs of running an establishment in the Crossroads, the price has steadily risen over the year or so that they've had it on tap, so see it for $3.50 is a breath of fresh air to someone that's used to paying big-city prices for it.

But that's not all. All of their draught selections are very modestly priced. Even though the beers are unique and hard to find(not to mention delicious), there is no beer that will cost more than four dollars for a pour.

And, unlike so many of the beer bars I've visited, the folks at Waldo Pizza love beer, and are happy to give you their personal opinions on any of their scores of bottled and draught beers, good or bad. For the retro crowd, they carry a selection of one dollar and dollar-fifty sub-big3 beers, like for example the can of schlitz(no glass) that you get when you order the "poor man," which comes with a small cheese pizza for some amount under ten dollars.

With the new expansion, Kansas City has a new beer bar, and everybody that's thirsty for good beer should at least give it a try. One visit is all it'll take though.

After a long day of driving and shopping Waldo Pizza was a welcome sight for both me and Tara. I thought it was easy to find, there was plenty of parking as well. It is located in a grouping of buildings in a neighborhood setting.

Inside, the vibe is family pizzeria. We visited around 5 pm on a Saturday night; it wasn’t busy when we got there. After a few minutes we were seated. I perused the beer menu. I was happy. Now, clearly, this is not a beer bar. In fact the actual “bar” is more like a workstation with a few stools. With that said, there was a small but interesting tap bank. Bell’s Brown Ale, Katy Trail (from Flat Branch?), a Lindemans lambic, Boulevard Wheat, Beamish, and a couple less adventurous offerings. The bottle list was very nice. Duvel, Old Rasputin, Cooper’s Vintage Ale and Two-Hearted Ale were the highlights. Still, there was plenty other choices from Boulevard, Goose Island, Schlafly, and a 15 (or so) imports. I thought the beer selection was well planned out. They also have cheap “retro” beers. Nice touch.

The food menu was heavy on pizza, duh! Three types of crust. I tried the honey whole wheat, it was awesome. Tara tried the St. Louis-style thin crust, it was thin! There was plenty of topping to choose from. My 10 inch pizza was damn, damn tasty! The little salad bar they had was nice.

The service was attentive and friendly. Zero complaints here.

I thought the beer prices were very good and the food prices were solid.

I think we have found our new place to have dinner in KC. I really liked the food, the beer selection was solid, and the whole vibe was positive. Waldo Pizza is a “must try” in KC.

* With the added taps/tap room ...
these folks are in the top handful of kc beer stops*

Definitely a family pizzeria and not a beer bar- the bar itself is small and like one you might have in your basement.

However, they have three different styles of excellent pizza and seven rotating tap beers. My wife loved the crispy "St. Louis style" crust and I had a Missouri brewed tap of Katy Trail Pale Ale to start. Other taps were Oberon Ale, Lindeman's Framboise and Beamish Stout.

Beer list had 40 bottles, a world tour, most at $3 a bottle. Also about 25-30 craft brews at $3 including 5 Blvd, 2 Schafly and 3 from Colorado plus a couple each of Bells, Rogue and Goose Island.

Retro beers at $1 a can were Schlitz, Old Milwaukee and for the moment Falstaff. Step up to Busch, PBR or MHL long necks at $1.50.
Toss in He'Brew and ciders for novelty. This place has fun with beer. They change the line up often.

Gruntlumber said this may be the best beer bar in KC.
While I keep looking it has my vote for now. I'll be back with the family.
