Stopped in here for the first time during a recent trip to asheville. Obvious college atmosphere upon entry, as there were groups of kids playing bag-o in the outdoor section.

Wasn't immediately sure whether it was seat yourself or wait to be seated, but as we didn't see any open seats except at the bar it didn't really matter. Still, we stood near the entrance for close to 5 min without any of the staff saying a word to us. Finally one of the waitresses came over and sat us at a table that had just cleared.

They had, I believe, 5 of their beers on tap at the time, and a couple on their menu that i asked for they no longer had. All the beer was servicable but nothing all that distinct. The fact that now, a few months later, i can't even remember which was my favorite, should give some indication as to the how memorable anything was.

Pizza was ok, nothing great, or even as good as the pub dog in baltimore that i had just visited a few weeks prior. To top that off, the waitress charged us for a large pizza when we had ordered a medium. When i brought this to her attention, she told us that "the mediums here are larges" or something to that effect. She still wouldn't change the bill though, and I didn't see the point in arguing.

Leaving the service out of it though, it's a pretty average brewpub all in all. If i was still in college i'm sure i would have been there frequently. As it is now, i doubt i will be returning.

Located around the corner from the excellent Hi-Wire Brewing Company, Asheville Brewing is one of the area’s older brewpubs – this location is where their beer is brewed and distributed; there are two others in the region. It is a popular venue, spacious, homey and bustling with families, tourists and regulars seeking out their beers. There is a small bar area towards the front with a dining area adjacent; in another room (where one can find the restrooms) is another dining area. Like many Asheville establishments, ABC offers a large (sheltered) outdoor patio.

There are usually eight drafts available: several of which are offered year-round. There most popular seems to be the Shiva IPA, which is refreshing while not overwhelmed by hops; others include a sessional IPA (Perfect Day), Ninja Porter and Scout Stout. Beers are available to go - as do most places in Asheville.

Food-wise, the menu contains the usual assortment of pub grub that involves an eclectic array of burgers, sandwiches and pizza. (That said, their buffalo wings can be described as palate melting. Hot! Really hot!) During the warmer months, ABC even shows movies. Nice touch and a very nice place for some decent beers. But one dares not tarry as Asheville offers much, much more ….. next stop: Burial Beer, which is another short walk.

Good location that was easy to find but it was dirty and seemed to be a hole in the wall. Food was not great, but I did not try pizza. The beers were average, with a few standouts like Shiva and Ninja. One of my least favorites places in Asheville, definitely not a must see. You can buy their core beers at any bottle shop in town and take them home.
