Received as an extra in a trade probably 8 or so months ago that just kind of got lost in the fridge. Poured into my Duvel tulip.

A - Poured a nice dark dark brown nearly black hue with a one finger mocha head that faded quickly to leave a thin sudsy halo and light wisps. 3.75 (x .05 = .186)

S - Aromas of roasted malts, chocolate, lightly sweet malts, darker chocolate, nice caramel, faint metallic twinge though. 3.75 (x .2 = .75)

T - Taste is similar to the noce with nice roast, a bit darker, good chocolate, the malts are sweet but not in the way. Darker chocolate comes out along with some nice caramel. The metallic twinge is gone...there is a creamy flavour here, more akin to oats. Quite pleasant. 4 (x .45 = 1.8)

M - Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated almost overly so, creamy, alcohol hidden. That being said it does suffer from feeling a bit thin/watery. 3 (x .1 = .3)

O - Overall, fairly decent porter in a pinch. Nothing I would go back and revisit, but a solid enough offering from Green Man Brewery. Perhaps if fresher it would be closer to 4's. 3.75 (x .2 = .75)

Smokey, roasty, slightly sweet, a bit of chocolate. This is a delicious porter.

A 12oz bottle picked up at Brusin Ale's in Asheville Sep 2014

A - Pitch black with no clarity, 1 finger of head, and lots of sticky lace left all over the glass

A - Roasted malt, coffee beans, and dark chocolate all rolled up. Nice!

T - Smooth, silky, coffee and chocolate. Well balanced. Creamy. Tasty..well done!

M - Full bodied, creamy, rich, and nice aftertaste.

O - Very high drinkability. Enjoyable. Definitely a go-to porter if available!

I have had this one before, but this was the first one I have had since they began bottling. I love that they are bottling and now distributing. However, I would prefer they offer cans. Hopefully in the future they will.

Pours: Dark, some head that settles into a nice lacing pattern. Maybe a bit of light comes through but not much.

Aroma: Nice chocolate notes, some light hops going on or some floral element, maybe even a bit of bourbon in there.

Taste: Man, how good is this porter! Its what the style should be. Its got all the notes you want when you are looking to have a porter but without the harsher bitterness that some often have. Many breweries are just trying to do a watered down version of their stouts, this one is a stand alone porter and does just what it is advertised to do in the taste department. I could definitely drink several of these with ease. It finishes clean but with a nice smooth chocolate, molasses, rum and/or bourbon sweetness, but not at all overly sweet. Perfectly balanced beer.

Overall: I am so happy this is being distributed more widely and in bottles. My one problem, which really is not a problem is they should offer this in cans. I hope they do, a lot of Asheville breweries are beginning to go that direction.
