Heavily carbonated - poured almost all head and took some time to settle. Pale amber more an orange IPA color
Citrus, grapefruit and hints of tropical fruit in the hops. No sign of the malt on the nose, but nice hop profile
Nice up front fruity hops followed by a nice thwack of bitterness. Definitely picking up the more exotic hops used in the beer. Not sure about some of the more funky dank flavors, not something I am used to, but very interesting and a clear clean expression of the hops
Body is solid. Good malt backbone

Overall an enjoyable and very nice beer - I would peg it more a bigger IPA than a red ale, but overall very nice

This poured a hazy amber with a almost two finger thick head. The nose starts with an a orange marmalade smell, sweet caramel malt and floral notes.
The citrus flavour moves to the back and bread and malt flavours comes forward. The mouth feel is thick and full with some effervescence tickling the top of the tongue. Have to admit I was expecting a little more sweet maltiness and citrus note just based on the nose. The 7.5% ABV does warm you as your mind shifts through the flavours. As this beer warmed up the flavones really started to come through. A lot of dark fruit, plums etc. and caramel. So word of advice; pour it and let it warm up a bit before diving in.

Beneath the bold promises,

Surprising smoothness.

330ml bottle, day 6 of the 2014 Craft Beer Advent calendar. Great name for a winter seasonal.

This beer pours a hazy, medium orange-brick amber hue, with a fistful of puffy, loosely foamy, and broadly bubbly beige head, which leaves some rather large swaths of chunky lace around the glass as this puppy exhibits a stellar and stubborn retention.

It smells of pungent ripe citrus (blood orange, Texas red grapefruit, and kiwi), further tropical fruit (guava, mango, and gooseberries), bready caramel malt, biscuity toffee, and more floral, grassy, and slightly perfumed hops. The taste is bready, grainy caramel malt, a somewhat lessened mixed domestic and tropical fruitiness (pick and choose from the various notes in the aroma, and you get it), a minor stoney flintiness, and equally stabilized leafy, earthy, and floral hops.

The bubbles are pretty heady and peppy in their assertive frothy and fizzy flip-flopping, the body on the lee side of medium weight, and not really smooth, unless you're the sort to discount a hovering hop and alcohol astringency. It finishes on a strong drying trend, the caramel malt not yet ready to give up the ghost, but certainly still being torn asunder in its raging against the dying of the light.

A decently hoppy red ale, with the extra kick to the liver of the 15-proof booze, which, while not totally integrated, does well enough to mind its manners. Tasty, and an agreeably non-standard style (other than possessing the word 'red') for a Christmas seasonal offering. Fat Man Red Suit Big Sack Rad Brew.

Pours a hazy copper with a big fluffy head that persists.

Nose has bready malt and grassy, bitter hops.

The taste is at the same time very malty and very hoppy. Begins malty and then finishes with bitter hops. Big flavours all around.

This is not a subtle beer. The flavours punch you in the face. It could be more balanced

This beer had me at the name, though I was extremely excited to try a craft beer from down under. To date, my experiences with Australian beer have been limited to pissy lagers, so I was thrilled to find this as Day 6 of my BeerAdvent calendar. Well carbonated (it fizzed up on me when I opened it), and the head remained throughout. I like the balance of biscuity malt, toffee and fruit preserves. I would gladly drink this, at any time of the year.
