An outstanding beer with excellent aroma and taste - I want more!

Tastes like a blend of a classic Belgian with an Indian Pale ale

orange, Belgian yeast, citrus, grapefruit, slight smoke, very slight raspberry, spice and slight pine all mix together to make a great quality beer - excellent balance (other people will probably get other flavours as well - not an easy beer to describe)

Pours a cloudy dark orange (orange when held up to light) with massive white head.

Smell is hoppy modern ANZUS hops of some description- pine, citrus. Rockmelon. Nice, full on and wholesome. Behind that; Belgian qualities.

Taste is lots of fruits- rockmelon is particularly prominent. Perhaps kiwifruit also. Nice Belgian esters and spiciness, but not syrupy.

Mouthfeel is about the Belgian spice and hop bitterness. Some fennel (not aniseed- it's not that strong and is thankfully more subtle).

Greatly prefer this to the Nøgne Ø iteration. (Modern) hoppier and drier. Of course I think this is fresher (~3 months old) than when I had the Nøgne Ø version.

On tap at the brewery.

A: Served a nice pale golden color with a good head that fades quite slowly to ample lacing.

S: Aroma is a mix of citrus and pine with a nice funk. Spice and an interesting fruit mix in the background.

T: Taste is a changing mix of citrus, pine, a mild malt sweetness with a bit of spice, fruit and a nice dose of funk. There is a nice bitterness with a slightly spicy finish.

F: Medium body, with an original robust flair that makes this beer stand out.

O: Not a typical saison as this one has a bit of an IPA personality without being overbearing. An ineresting and very enjoyable beer. Well worth checking out.

Bottle from Purvis. From notes.

A - Poured bright and golden with one finger of white head. Strong carbonation. With the bottom of the bottle added there is alot of yeast sediment floating. Chunky spots of lace and a film of retention.

S - Strong citrus, hay, wheat, and some funk.

T - Same with citrus, hay, wheat, and funk with more hay and light funk combining for a neat flavour profile. Sweet malt as well. Nice stuff.

M - Good carbonation and medium to full body with a crisp hoppy finish.

O/D - Delicious. Interesting and flavourful with no evidence of the ABV. A solid colab.

Beer tasted on tap at the Local Taphouse -St Kilda, February 2012

As a combo style, I wasn't sure what to expect with this beer.

Pours a nice pale golden colour into the glass, with a substantial head that retains it's structure throughout drinking.

Initial smell of the beer gives me a nice fruitiness, particularly peach. Hope presence on the nose is there but surprisingly not as strong as I would expect from a offshoot-style combining parts of the IPA style. Again, the spiciness expected in the nose of a Saison doesn't come to the for as possibly anticipated by my own pre-conceptions. Never the less, it has the 'fresh' smell of a saison.

On first taste, Wow. Strong hop presence in flavour but bitterness is by no means at the same level. A nice fruity flavour from the hops stands out with a sweet, but not sickly sweet character from what tastes like some crystal malts. A gentle bitterness lasts through the entire mouthful and lasts even after that. Whilst I get the impression of this having characteristics of a saison, the expected clove'y/spicy flavours aren't prominent enough for me to recognise the style without the hint from the name in advance.

Though, in this case, I am putting this lack of Saison character down to the time the beer might have been in the keg - I am sure I would've tasted significantly more saison character if I had sampled directly from the filling tank.

All in all, it's a fantastic beer collaboration between two fantastic breweries. The beer has plenty of character and a definite unique taste which will surely be picked up and developed by other brewers.

Pours a hazy dark straw with a lovely pillowy off-white coarse head.

Moderate aromas - Saison funk on nose - hint of citrus.

Wow - complexity rules on an awesome taste. Hints of sour, some barnyard, with hops in the mix and grapefruit. None dominate - all so well integrated. A nod to a 5 here rather than a 4.5 due to complexity with no overall dominant element.

Mouthfeel, despite all of the above, is crisp.

What a beer - great idea, well executed.

330ml bottle poured into a Mikkeller glass

Clear pale golden with crisp, oily bright white head. A little lacing.

Delicious nose. Fresh cut grass, pineapple, mandarin, apple peel. Funky wet hay aswell.

Malty sweetness upfront, vibrant barnyard straw. Then the hops take the flavour to a nice bitter interlude before a nice long peppery finish.

Mouthfeel is well constructed-thin and over-carbonated. I would have prefered a slightly dryer finish.

So cool to see some Australian brewers collaborating abroad. A really nicely balanced brew.

A - Three fingers of soapy white head cap a bright orange amber. Sticky chunks of lace follow the head.

S - Galaxy hops are easily identifiable, ripe passionfruit, pomegranate, durian. Reminds me of fresh fruit in Bali.

T - All the same tropical fruit flavours advertised in the aroma come through, and bring with them a nice hop bitterness along with a mild heat.

M - Oily and medium bodied, moderate carbonation.

O - Not dissimilar to a good new world IPA. A successful collaboration.
