Pours a dark brown with a gi-normous head that slowly fades to a still pretty impressive head. The aroma was coffee. The taste also coffee, not overpowering. The feel was watery but with plenty of carbonation left over from the head. Drinkability was good. Will not be confused with a stout, but doesn't claim to be. Not bad for a porter.

A- nice brown to black brew. One and a half finger of creamy brown mocha head. Lacing on all sides of glass.

S- Smells like roasty malt goodness. Coffee and toffee smell.

T- tastes like roasted malts, tastes like a little bit of coffee. Roasty awesomeness.

M- little more slick than i would like but it's still alright, good carbonation.

O- solid brew. probably number two from mad anthony offerings that i've had. just missed the java porter a couple times, but look forward to it alot

Poured from a 12oz bottle into my Portsmouth snifter. Poured nearly black in color with a thin tan head barely covering the top of the beer.

The aroma has a sweet chocolaty flavor to it at first, but also has a tart fruitiness to it that didn't seem to belong. A little roasted and bitter coffee flavor almost covers up the tartness, but it's still evident.

The taste has a roasted, chocolaty bitterness to it but the tartness that was found in the nose also comes through in the taste. It finishes with a slightly acidic tartness that doesn't really seem to fit. It doesn't really taste infected at all, just more of a tart and bitter finish.

Mouthfeel seems to be a little light for a porter and it had moderate carbonation. Drinkability isn't very good, the tartness just wasn't a flavor I enjoyed in it. I really don't think it's infected but I guess it's possible it's showing some early signs of it.

A: Dark Brown/Black, nice cloudy tan head on top.

S: Creamy dark chocolate, roasted barley, something slightly tart.

T: Roasted Barley, not as much chocolate as was in the smell. A bit of tart/sourness that I associate with milk stouts. I dislike it in Porters.

M: Carbonation is a bit on the fizzy side for me.

D: Not a big fan. Average for a lot of the porters that are out right now, and has a tartness that I just don't like in Porters. Would not try again.

12fl oz bottle poured into my pint glass

Pours an opaque black color with a two inch mocha colored head. Average head retention with no lacing left behind.

Smell is of roasted malts. Some chocolate, espresso, vanilla.

Taste is of light coffee, dark chocolate, vanilla(?) and roasted malts.

Medium bodied with high carbonation.

Ok, but nothing worth trying again.

12 ounce bottle. Served in a nonic pint glass, the beer pours dark brown/black with an inch tan head. Head retention and lacing are both decent. It smells like toffee, chocolate, coffee, caramel and roasted malt. The aroma is mostly sweet smelling. I can taste roasted malt, chocolate, coffee and some bitter hops in the finish. Mouthfeel/body is medium, with good carbonation. Drinkability is OK, it's not hard to drink at all. I think this is a decent porter, it's not something I'd make a point to seek out but I would drink this again in the future.

Thanx Spaulding....
Pours a a nice opaque dark chocolate color with a firm mud colored head that dissipates slowly. Smells like coffee beans with a small chocolate undertone. Tons of carbonation, maybe too much? Tastes like coffee beans, subtle raspberry and bitter chocolate. A little thin in the mouth, but that helps make it pretty drinkable. Solid brew.

Pours black with a very frothy light tan head. Nose is a roasted thing with minor molasses and a good load of coffee. Flavor is earthy and a fair portion of coffee. The flavor is a bit difficult to decipher as the carbonation is so intense and extremely full that it hinders the delivery of flavor. Still though, it's nice. Overall a pretty decent porter, except the issue of the carbonation.

Thanks to tburkhart for this one.

Edit: After warming up, the intense carbonation subdues and the flavor more clearly shows.

Pours a dark brown/almost black with about two fingers of light tan head that diminishes at a regular pace and leaves adequate lacing behind.

Smells slightly sweet and smokey with a hint of toffee notes.

Taste is slightly smokey with some dark chocolate and roasted malt character.

Mouthfeel is nicely carbonated but somewhat watery in my opinion. Could be a benefit if you were going to have several in one sitting because it doesn't seem very filling.

I feel it would be pretty easy to put down quite a few of these on a cold night but the sweet and smokey combination could become a little too much after a while.

Thanks goes out to tburkhart for this one.

Pours a dark brown color, nice carbonation, huge three-finger foamy head, with tons of sticky lacing to follow. The nose is malty, with some chocolate/toffee. The taste is sweet, malty, with some chocolate/toffee. Medium body, the finish is dry and slightly bitter. Drinkable, not a bad brew at all.

12 ounce bottle into Barilla spaghetti sauce jar.

A: Huge dark tan head my jar runneth over and this was even after I dumped 1/4 of the bottle into my chili. Head goes down to a decent film. Okay lacing. This beer is really bubbly.

S: Very nice coffee and burnt caramel notes with a nice hoppy presence.

T: Pretty nice. Very dark and kind of bitter chocolate. Starts out very nice but towards the end of the cup I start to get kind of an Elmer's glue type of finish. There's something that is fouling up the finish as it warms.

M: Light to Medium with incredible bubbliness.

D: I thought this was gonna be grade A, but as it warms I detect some funkiness. I bought a sixer so if my taster is off, I'll update this with some good news, cause I love my Indiana brewers!

Got this bottle as an extra a while back and it had been sitting in my fridge ever since. I had been anxious to try it this past week when cleaning things out so I decided to pop it open last night. Served cold, right out of the fridge and poured into a pint glass. This one was consumed on 11/07/2008.

Oh snap, we have a gusher! This one literally filled the first two pours with nothing but foam, wow. Letting it settle down it eventually became somewhat drinkable. A thick, brownish liquid then gathered itself under a huge head of off white lace.

The aroma was oddly tart, and hints of dark fruit permeated throughout. Rich peat and smoke like notes and a hint of roasted malts permeated throughout the profile as well. This carried over well into the flavor as it allowed a nice bit of flow to it. Nice notes of roasted malts, peat, dark cerry like tartness and a smooth, almost molasses like flavor in the finish which was definitly the sweet kick the balance needed. Smooth, with a great carbonation profile once it calmed down, this one was defintley an easy drinker and i had no issues at all with making it quickly disappear,

Overall not a bad little porter. Very intresting carbonation on it and really a nice, fruit like vibe coming off of it. I may go to this one again and give it another shot. Seems nice enough.

Pours a very nice black color with some very nice (if thin) head and some very good lacing. It has a very strong coffee/burnt grain aroma with just a hint of vanilla. A very nice flavor, a thick and hearty burnt grain taste with a bit of oakiness towards the end and enough hops to keep it from being too sweet. Good mouthfeel, a little rough perhaps from the carbonation, but nothing bad. A very well done porter.

12 oz. bottle. Pours a dark brown color with a frothy brown head, nice lacing. Aroma was nutty, caramel, a bit of coffee, chocolate and roasted malts. Flavor is about the same, with a little bit of hops. Medium bodied, well-made porter, very easy to drink.

Tan foam billows up to fill the entire glass. It settles but maintains an inch or so on top, after the rest is slowly poured in. No lace, the surface has a shiny, soapy sheen. Yeast is poured in, giving it a 2" head.

Aromas of dusty roast malt, coffee grounds. It's sweet and nutty, mildly lactic, but with a metallic note.

Astringent twang, carbonic mineral bite. Some earthy roast peeks out in the finish, but overall it's not too gentle. Ample carbonation, but the sourish bite takes away from any nuance. Seems like this has gone south.

This single came from a store cooler, transported in a cooler, straight to my fridge. Not sure how old the bottle was, but the product wasn't of high quality.

Where is the new fort? Pours a mostly black color with noticeable brown highlights and good clarity. A big ample head that took a long time to come back to normal. Pretty much stayed super carbonated through the tasting and left lots of lacing.

The nose is mostly sweeter malt with limited astringency on the back end. Some roast blended with a touch of coffee. A sweeter caramel in the backend. Minor DMS but nothing over the top.

The taste is similar. Some sweeter malt with a blended roast flavor. More one dimensional with limited texture and flavor. Some light blended chocolate and patent notes but really subtle. Some limited hop flavor with a earthy floral finish that just doesn't fit in right. Limited yeasty notes as well.

The body is bit tricky but I would say its closer to a mid palate than light. A bit over carbonated with some CO2 bite. Overall this beer to me is not bad but is just missing that depth and complexity I'm looking for in a porter.

Dark brown to black body, topped by a big light brown to tan micro bubble head of about three inches.

Terrific aroma, first big wave of roasted coffee, followed by some dark chocolate.

Taste is heavy on coffee, with a nice chocolatey aftertaste. Good earthy hop bite at the swallow.

Solid medium mouthfeel. Maybe could have been a little chewier. Nicely drinkable. Goes down easy and leaves you wanting more.

Solid enjoyable porter, great for cool/cold spring/winter nights.
