It's very dark for an IPA. A burnt copper, brownish color that's very hazy. The head is thick and full, couple finger's worth, and lasts forever. Fairly white with a nice sticky lace.
Has a wondeful pineapple-y citrusy smell. Some orange peel and honey. Definite hints of caramel malt.
Citrus bomb. Pineapple and grapefruit fill the taste buds. A bit of pine.
High acid, but not over the top. Huge citrus wallop. Slight resiney oil. Clear bitterness in the finish, but well balanced with the malt and citrus.
I think I could drink this every night. I love citrus in IPAs, especially with a pineapple taste. Very smooth, easy to drink, and the 6.5% ABV can sneak up on you. Top shelf IPA.

I've tried several Mad Anthony brews in the past, and they've been very hit or miss--quality control is a recurring theme among smaller Indiana brewers. Since these guys have recently expanded, though, their beers have been much more consistent, and the IPA is a stellar standout.
It's a great, balanced, late-90's style Midwestern IPA. Think Alpha King, or 2 Hearted, or even Masala Mama. It doesn't quite have the fruity hop peaks of the offerings from Bells and FFF, nor does it quite have the same majestic balance of Town Hall's flagship, but it's still an excellent iteration of the same style.
These days, with every goddamn thing getting aged in a barrel and neophyte beer geeks refusing to sip anything that doesn't leave lesions on their tongues, it's nice to return to a relatively simpler time, when Goose Island's IPA was considered a hop bomb. This is an excellent flagship, and I recommend you all give it a try.

Served in a Lagunitas mason jar.
I didn't see this beer coming at one of my local haunts, but I wasn't gonna argue with a new beer. It pours a clear sunset bronze topped by a finger of lightly off-white foam. The nose comprises spicy greens, light grapefruit rind, pine resin, and sweet caramel. The taste brings in more of the same, though with slightly stronger notes of grapefruit and pine. The body is a light medium, with a light moderate carbonation and a sticky, drying finish. Overall, a pleasantly surprising IPA, one that came across quite hoppy without losing its sense of balance. Not bad at all.
