Bottle: Poured a hazy light golden color ale with a quiet large pure white frothy head with good retention and some lacing. Aroma of coriander and orange peel is quite powerful with some sweet candy notes also perceptible. Taste is a great mix between some wheat malt with a mix of coriander and orange peel which is well balanced and very refreshing. Body is bit thin but not too bad either with great carbonation. Refreshing and well done which makes me wonder if previous ratings where from less then stellar batch at the brewpub or maybe I am just a sucker of wheat beers.

Archibald "La Joufflue"
473 ml. can, coded "328 0105"

A lighter version of the style, as it really should be. I would place it somewhere between a Hoegaarden and a Wittekerke as far as depth of flavor goes. It's not as spicy as it might be, and thus slightly towards the sweet side - but given that we're talking about a fairly sweetish beer style to begin with you have to look at that with perspective. There's definitely coriander in the nose and in the flavor, as well as a bit of orange; I just think it could have a little more zip on the tongue. Disregarding my personal taste, it's actually really hard to beat as there's almost no fault at all (head retention and lacing could be better), and it delivers everything it's supposed to. It's refreshing, interesting, and fairly complex yet still super easy to drink. Kudos!

473ml Can

Appearance – Hazy yellow colour with a large size fizzy and frothy white coloured head. There is an average amount of carbonation showing and there is some good lacing. The head lasted for around 5 minutes before it was gone.

Smell - Grains/wheat, lemons, oranges, coriander

Taste & Mouth - The beer has a high amount of carbonation and most of the taste is made up of wheat mixed with oranges and lemons. (both the juice and the zest) There is also a bit of a spice taste.. coriander and cloves, and also a odd sour milk taste.. not really sure how to explain it. It finishes with a spicy and bready aftertaste.

Overall – Not a bad beer by any means.. if they could just eliminate that one odd taste from the beer it would be pretty drinkable. Not a waste of money, but I wouldn't buy it again.

Poured into Raftman tulip.

A- Big rocky white head which is awesome. The head melts slowly while staying connected to all the thick lacing. Very light golden, a bit to light maybe, clear though.

S- Grain which brings a cettain mustiness to a sweet peach. Smells good but unimpressive.

T- A lot like the smell. Watery but it doesn't really bother. Don't really know what else to say. It tastes good.

M- Big smooth foam as long as there's still carbonation left. Combine this with the thinness of the liquid and you can go from a nice full bodied beverage to a relatively lifeless one in the same serving.

D- Quite good. Light and tasty.

Kind of different. Rarely tasted this yeast profile in a Belgian.
I'd buy it again in the mixed-pack.

EDIT 15-03-2011
Strong rubber smell. Not sure why.

From a can of 473ml. 2,99$ A: pours a hazy yellowish with a white head. S: On the nose this beer has a nice clear aroma with some spices, coriander. T: Classic wheat taste, some spices. M: Medium-bodied beer. D: The aftertaste is really ackward, but still this is a good white beer in the belgian tradition.

473 ml can

A- Very pale yellow with frothy head. Clear until I pour in the yeast, then cloudy very pale yellow.

S- Almost nothing. Touch of lemony soap.

T- Water, touch of lemony soap. Not much flavour at all really. A bit better with the yeast in since the yeast has a decent flavour. Some wheaty grain husk flavour as it warms, but nothing good really.

MF- Very thin, even for a wit. It would be a thirst quencher for a hot day though as it is light and drying.

D- Just a slightly unpleasant beer. There are good witbiers out there, won't waste any more money on this one.
