Served on tap @ Silverton Brewery.
A- Clear amber with 1 finger of heasd that quickly goes away. No lacing.
A_ very light hops & malt smell Hard to smell over the burnt pizza smell permiating the establishment.
T- Light hops taste w/ big malt back note.
M- Medium to light mouth feel with proper carbonation.
The menu says this is an IPA 6.5 ABV @ 73 IBU. Board on wall says "Americanized ESB" using cascade and palisades hops 6.0 abv 72 IBU.
This seems to be more of an ESB.
I would not go out of my way to get this beer, in fact given this trail and other reviews I will probably avoid this brewery. See my beerfly report for more.

Very cloudy and hazy. No too much head to speak of. Interesting appearance. Nice crown of foam.

Paper scent. Much like soggy cardboard. Dirt.

Very off-putting. It tastes like my first homebrew (it was a stout). Not much good to say about this one. Over carbonated. Light body. Not creamy or hoppy. Bad, just bad. Very off style and wrong.

Not recommended. Drain pour, if i had the heart. Thanks Jeremy and Killion for the thought! you two rock!

A - Pours a clear copper body with two fingers worth of head...the head was creamy and rocky and off white in color...there was a full cap of retention which left decent lacing

S - Citrus and floral hops...there is a semi-sweetness to the nose...a big dose of citrus rind

T - There is not much going on here...there is a citrus hop presence that lends some sweetness but gives off more bitter rind flavor...there is a strong caramel sweetness...it starts off as an underlying flavor but it grows in strength as the beer warms

M - Medium bodied...huge metallic twang, bitter, underlying sweet caramel

O - At first I thought my bottle might have been a little old, but after seeing the other reviews this beer was not old...the flavors were pretty one dimensional and didn't present themselves as a whole package

A: Clear and dark ambe pourr. Single finger width, creamy head. Leaves a little lacing behind as it goes on.

S: Hops in the smell, mild pine notes. A strong sourness to it as well.

T: The usual grassy hop taste with a balance of malt thrown in. A hint of caramel sits on the tongue. Bitter, but pretty mildly.

M: Pretty crisp and a little light, but overall medium bodied. Starts to stick around mid-glass in the back of the throat.

There are better IPAs, but this one is pretty solid, especially once the beer warms a bit.

Amber colored beer, not winning any points for clarity. Hefeipa or something huh? Didn't pick up hops in the aroma, picked up the smell of the metal can.

Taste, not as horrible as my brother seemed to make me think it was gonna be. Don't get me wrong, this stuff sucks for an ipa, but it is drinkable at least. Then again, I did pawn most of it off on the girlfriend after a few sips. Leans to the maltier side of things, an appreciable degree of bitterness. More metallic flavor possibly contributing to the bitterness where there appears to be little hop contribution.

Comes in a can, bonus points, but really, this beer's only positive is that its in a can. Drinkable, but not recommended.

12oz bottle. Pours a reddish amber with a small off white head that quickly goes to a thin film.

The aroma is sweet vegetal crystal malts with a little fruit and grassy hops.

The flavor is sweet crystal malts with a little green resin from the hops. It has decent grassy bitterness in the finish. The mouthfeel is medium bodied and watery.

Overall, not a great IPA. It's too sweet and doesn't show good hop characteristics with some off notes.

I had never heard of this brewery before I picked this one up as part of a mixed six pack last week. Turns out it is contract brewed at Fort Collins Brewery. Amber colored with a decent beige head. Aromas of pine, caramel and stone fruit. On the palate, medium bodied, not all that hoppy, toast and caramel.

A vigorous pour from the can into my Lost Abbey Teku glass produces a two-finger thick, amber tinged, tan colored head. The beer is a dark amber color that shows a brilliantly clear, copper-amber hue when held up to the light. The aroma smells of citrusy Cascade like-hops backed up by sweet-tea like crystal malt. The hop character is definitely dominant and has a touch of resinous character to it, but it really reminds me of ruby-red grapefruit juice and zest more than anything.

Fairly sweet tasting up front, with softer hop character than was in the aroma, but the finish takes a wrong turn some where and reminds me of stewed, oxidized crystal malt in a not so pleasant way; my second sip has this morphing into a dirty dish water like flavor that is backed by a piney, bitter hop note. At the front of the tongue the hop character contributes a citrusy, grapefruit like and orange zest flavor along with some resinous pine and herbal hop notes. The beer has a pretty good texture for this type of beer; if it wasn't for the off flavor in the finish, this would be quite quaffable with its medium light body.

Certainly an interesting beer, at times the dirty flavors towards the finish seem to disappear (but mostly it is way to distracting), but I can't say that I really like the heavier crystal malt direction. In the end though the flavor can almost seems gross; it really does remind me of dirty dishwater, it is a shame as there might be a half-way decent beer here otherwise.

Poured from 12 oz. can into standard pint glass.

A - looks a nice amber color, with a bit of cloudiness to it. Head retention was minimal and disappeared within a minute or so.

M - smooth. Different, reminds me more of an English ipa. That said, much different than the most ipa's in colorado.

T - really small hop flavor. Dominated by malt. Not bad, just not what I expected.

D - drinkable, but I'd have a tough time buying this one again unless it was the only ipa in the store.

This is my 2nd Silverton after the "Bear Ass Brown" which wasn't too bad.
Pours a deep burnt orange. Pretty highly carbonated initially, but it settles down after a bit. Lacing is pretty prevalent, though.
Smells like a pretty typical American pale ale. A mix of hops (centennial would be my guess) with a mix of biscuity malts. Apparently this is a UK style IPA, so it's not far off the mark.
The hops hit your palate initially, but the malts really take over in the middle. The finish isn't really bitter at all, but more biscuit malts.
I'd probably call this a malt-centric American Pale instead of an English IPA. It's way too strong for an English brew, but way underhopped for an American one.
Pretty drinkable and refreshing for something at nearly 6.8% ABV.
Decent beer, but it's not much of an IPA of any kind. It's another one of those hoppy red ales that doesn't really belong in an IPA category.
Still, I really don't think this is too bad. It was certainly drinkable, just mislabeled and under-performing. I imagine this is a good beer for people used to macros but who want to drink something a bit better. Definitely not a geek beer.

a: silver can with a pasted-on label, bright copper color, frothy eggshell head, good retention

s: pulpy hops - a touch muted but still solidly in ipa territory, grapefruit with some mild juicy tropicals, lighter malt body, pale and just a touch of toasty caramel

m: carbonation light-moderate and somewhat bubbly at first, light-medium body

t: pale malt body with a mild dosage of toasty caramel, pulpy citrus hops, not extremely vivid but tasty enough, good bitterness, clean with no off flavors

d: just fine, an average ipa in most respects, but the last reviewer seems to have reviewed a bad can

Sad to report, this "award-winning" brew is one of the worst things I've ever put to my lips.

Pours a lightly amber gold with minimal head or retention. Color is alright, and I'm fine with a touch of haze in my IPAs.

But with the first whiff something seems amiss. Buttery toffee notes against a stale hop and prune-y, oxidative backdrop.

On the palate this is a huge, buttery, diacetyl laden mess. Hop flavors are swallowed whole, grapefruit and citrus notes are hiding in the background, and even the malt character is swallowed up. Redemption only comes, strangely, in the finish, which has a nice, firm bitterness that cleans it a little off the tongue.

Between the diacetyl and high alcohol problems noted in a bunch of Silverton beers, I'd say someone needs to work on their temp control...
