Described as an ale that was just a little less bitter then an ipa, at the brewery. I'm a little confused why this is albled as an american amber/ red ale.
Picked up yesterday afternoon, 20 hours ago, from the brewery complex basement store. Came home just after the purchase.
Poured from the growler into a pint glass.
an inch of very sudzy off white head forms up and sits for a good amount of time. Finally settling to leave thick foam on the top and thick lace coverage.. Color is a pale amber copper color, transparent.
Aroma is mild and bready, with mild orange citric floral hoppynes. Pretty much subdued aroma with not much coming forward in this area.
Taste is malty upfront with a metallic flavor coming forward, followed by aspirin. Hops rush forward midway through, earthy bitter pine filled hops, still with an aspirin Amarillo kick.
Upfront though before the hops some mild caramel, toasted bread, great malt flavors and then the wooshing of hops to flip flop it to all bitters. Finish is super overwhelming, hop bitterness .
Bitterness lingering a good amount of time. Those aspirin flavors are not too well received, they are a bit nagging on the pallet and make this one difficult to drink more then one sip of. Unfortunately I have a whole growler of it left.

Originally reviewed on September 11 2005. Served on Cask. Ruby orange brown, burnt-sienna pour, with a finger of superfine ivory head. Dried apricot and craisins aroma, backed with a quick dose of Cascade hops. Crystalline. Flavor is a mellow fruit, again kicked with hops on the back. Tangy, with a touch of floral and a dose of grapefruit and lime cologne. Good warm bitter nose. Finish hop dry and yet savory smooth. Solid, with no faults and a nice level of intricacy. Clinging hops sugars and sunflower seeds on the finish.
Originally reviewed on October 23 2005. Slightly murky orange fringed brown, with a thick bubbly tan holding cream head. Light chlorine aroma, a tinge of lime and some rum. A very light and thin beer, but well balanced on the low end of the spectrum. Sharp floral, yet fleeting hops and a sultry smooth brown sugar malt. Less distinguish that straight Daisy or Double. A much reduced hop profile. Watery for the style and 6.5%

Mahogany....1/8 inch tan head...nice nose...fresh floral hops...almost a smoky touch to the nose like a campfire...taste has some nice chocolate notes..nice fresh hop flavor....mouthfeel is a little fizzy...not a bad beer...finishes tight and dry....worth a try...I asked the brewer and the bartender what style this was and I didn't get a real clear cut answer...they said a California style ale...I'm putting it in as a red because that is what it tasted most like and is probably what they meant...
