Originally reviwed on May 19, 2005. On tap at the brewpub. Had the 2003 vintage from a "Whisky Barrel" recently. More impressed with this batch. Safrron and raisins notes do well. Flavors are dominated by rum and pineapple. Some hop resin remains through, despite aging, exactly the kind of hop behavior you like to see in an aged Barleywine. The hop sugars come through lightly in the aroma, back end of the flavor profile, and aftertaste. Palate is pure sweet cane sugar. Alcohol is very smooth and most enjoyable, very lucious, without any burning of too much bourbon or whisky. Very smooth, without much bite.

Clear mahogany. Minute light brown head. Sparse lace. Excellent aroma. Sweet bourbon drenched nougat. Caramelish malts. Raisin. Vanilla bean. And wood. Very similar in nose to Town Hall's excellent barrel aged beers. I wonder if they use the same barrel supplier?? What a nicely integrated flavor profile... there's a little heat up front, followed by blankets of sweet bourbon and vanilla. Cedar like wood tones add a dryness. Malts are thick and rich. This one bleeds caramel and nougat. Some EtOH burn on the finish as well. But fitting within the context of everything. This is a winner here.

One of the crown jewels of this fine brew pub....An extremely smooth, drinkable high octane brew with a great aroma and taste..

Appearance: Pours a dark brown color with a cola like head...minimal carbonation evident which is fine for this style.

Aroma: Jack Daniels...Oak....vanilla...sweet an malty...doesn't get any better than this smells....it all blends lperfectly

Taste: I am not let down by the taste...too many times I see beers with great aroma's and then the taste doesn't match it...this one does....sweet, malty...perfect touch of whiskey and oak...some subtle vanilla bean and even a touch of dark fruits...

Mouthfeel: Low carbonation actually improves the ability to taste all of this goodness...full bodied...very smooth..

Drinkability: mellow and smooth....no hint of the high ABV...heat is hidden...aged nicely....very tasty brew...one of the best I've had of this style..
