Served in a snifter, the beer is a deep copper brown color with a fluffy little head of tan foam on top. Some nice lacing and good head retention.

The smell is very sweet smelling with toffee and caramel.

Huge sweetness in this beer. Loads of caramel, toffee and brown sugar flavors. Hints of spice and lightly boozy. A definite sipper. Tastes much like a quad in my opinion.

Full bodied and extremely smooth feel. Great carbonation.

Really enjoyed this little sipper. Double Dubbel? 10% abv, I just call it a quad. Doesn't matter, this is a damn good brew.

An excellent barrel aged beer. Pinot Noir barrel aged

A-Pours deep muddy brown with no head from the growler...

S-French Oak...red berries....plums...grapes

T-Sweeter red berry, grapes and plum notes lead the way but the oak/woodiness is strongly evident...Belgian notes are hidden as is the alcohol

M-Ever so slightly sour on the finish....flat carbonation (from growler)...full bodied...not sticky or oversweet..

D-Hell of a beer...I love the barrel aging qualities...and the base beer appears to be a perfect match for the barrel aging. One of their better beers...

Found at Fitger's, August '07.

This one looks a lot like coke with some cherry highlights. When held to the light, this baby glows. The head was but a little collar.

Smells of prunes and then some more prunes. This is accompanied by a slight astringent alcohol with a light raisin and a bunch of other dark fruits. The dark fruit emphasis seems to be lacking balance.

Tastes of sweet brown sugar, maple syrup and huge prunes again. A light roasted coffee fades in to finish it off.

Feels light and dense that amplifies the sweetness.

A good intro to Belgian flavors, but way to sweet and fruity for my liking.

On-tap at the brewpub: Now labeled as 10% ABV, and it shows!
Medium ruby toned brown color, fairly clear, nary a thin ring of lace was on top when served in its 10oz snifter and very minimal, if any lace was evident. Lots of oilyness to its look across the glass.

Aroma is a steamy bath of big ABV stained with peach and green raisin juices. Very Schnapps-like.

Taste is mess of big heat mixing with a bit of apple, berry, and peach fruityness. Kinda darkish in tone with the fruit, some caramel notions and raisinyness. But man this is wallop of ABV right on your palate. Very hard to get past it really. Airy and medicinal tartness of alcoholic heat twinge the hell out of everything and makes it a one dimensional mess of heat.

Big on ABV heat and ethanolic broadness from the first sniff to the last sippig finish. The body itself seems kinda light too, oily creamyness is noted which helped to ease up a bit of the heat making it possible to actually drink this stuff with a bit of proper distaining acceptance.

Not sure if this was once a decent enough brew. I do remember seeing it and possibly trying it at a beerfest a couple years ago, but maybe forgot about it. And doely so, if it was anything like this.

One of the least favored brews I've had from Fitger's.

Originally reviewed August 4, 2005. On tap at the brewpub. Rich ruby raisin pour, murky, with a thin line of light tan head. Light rum raisin aroma. Flavor is fairly one-dimenionsal, with strong bouts of firey alcohol, rum, raisins and a touch of mellow wheat. Sugars on the back end, with a hint of caramel. Palate is oily and coating. Average for the style.

On tap, Autumn Brew review, 2005...

Hazy brown color with a brass-like sheen. Small tannish head. Laces in numerous small dots. Apricot aromas, some sense of a bare mintiness. Thick mouthfeel, lower carbonation to the body. Nice chocolate notes, peach cobbler balancing each other out. Chalky hoppiness, more than I expect but its a brewpub beer and why not have some fun? Nice brew, sturdy with more bitterness than you often find in a Dubbel. Fun to drink a slightly different rendition that keeps many aspects of the style.
