Poured from growler into snifter. Brewed June 26, 2012.
A: Pours a clear fairly dark red copper with a thin light tan head.
S: Toasted grains and caramel malt. A bit off here.
T: Follows aroma. Lacking Belgian yeast and the dark dried fruit expected for style.
M: Light body. Lacking the typical heft. Smooth and oily.
D: Nice to see Fitger's trying a different style, but they didn't hit the mark on this one.

I'd say it's on par with some of the good, but not amazing authentic Belgians. I'd like a little more yeast flavor out of this one. The taste comprised of sweet fruits like strawberry and tart cherry with green apples. Pretty drinkable for 7.5% but Fitger's has better beers worth having.

Originally reviewed August 4, 2005. On tap at the Red Star Lounge. Amazing opalescent ruby glow. Very pretty. Awesome creamy white bubbly head, in ivory. Astounding, profound nutty aroma, with some malt and caramel. Light alcohol and some earth, and other things I can’t describe. Flavor is creamt, yet has some bourbon notes, with raisins and a strong touch of dry oak. Reminiscent of other Belgians I’ve had. Smooth, Palate is a bit too watery and the flavor a bit too simple to bring this one any higher.

This one was served in a goblet; the beer is a rusty brown with a thick meringue like head.

It has a nose of grains, and molasses and caramel. There is a bit of funk, but it is very mild.

The taste is mild with some light roasted malt, a bit of caramel and some finishing pear.

Mouth is solid and slightly slick. I really liked this beer, not sure it is to style, but it worked for me.

This is a nice dubbel from Fitger's...I get a lot of fruity notes....strawberries, plums, cherries....a little bit of cocoa....moderately spicy but not a ton of in your face phenols...a little bit of green apple enters as well....medium bodied....drinks nice...sipped on this throughout a windy rainy evening while reading and enjoyed it in this setting...seems to pack a little punch but not in your face strong..
