Hard to believe a SoCal BA could find a "new" establishment for the Boston BeerFly Guide but somehow I did. Walking back from Bauer's and Bukowski's the Friday before the ABF and already lugging a half dozen brews, I spotted this small store and decided to stop in.
Wine Emporium looks pretty "mom-n-pop" and caters mainly to the wine enthusiast. However, in the back corner I found a good selection of local beers from Casco Bay, Harpoon, Wachusett, Ipswich, Tremont, Allagash, Stoudts, Brooklyn, Smuttynose, Victory, Long Trail, and DFH. The DFH and Victory selections were particularly extensive. The foreign selection was pretty limited with only a minor number of English and German beers on hand and virtually no Belgian offerings.
Just as I was going to ask if I could break up some 6-packs, I saw the little signs posted at the bottom of each cooler and shelf stating "No breaking up of six-packs." Bummer! Fortunately, I found a discount rack that, once thoroughly checked, had a few local beers I was willing to try (summer ales by Allagash, Casco Bay, and Harpoon). So, I ended up with a few more bottles for my now-bulging backpack.
I talked with the two fellas working there and, noting the decent selection of Harpoon beers, inquired if they would be getting any of Harpoon's Triticus Ale in. Blank stares and cricket noises were the response. I asked them a couple other questions and soon came to the conclusion that, while friendly enough, they knew little about the local beer scene and culture. Surprisingly, one of the guys spotted me at the ABF, came up and grabbed me, saying how great the fest is and did I remember him from when I was in the store. Hopefully he got some Triticus.
Long story short, Wine Emporium is a decently stocked neighborhood store that can provide a nice selection of locally brewed beers at a reasonable price.

I happened to walk into the Wine Emporium on my way to school from a T-stop I rarely visited. I walked in and colleague of mine from school was working and he and I spoke about beer for 10 or 15 minutes. They have a decent selection (their collection is not mind-boggling) but all of the beers they have are great and well priced. Sam Adam's Tasman Red 22 oz for 4.95. I saw beers by Dogfish Head, Uintas, Avery (unique to this store in Boston as far as I know), CBC, among others. I bought the last De Dolle Arabier (!!). Definitely a place to check it if you're looking for something uncommon and certainly priced well. I'll be back many more times.

I happen to be staying at a B & B very close to this store...so figured I would stop in. Very glad I did!!
This is a small store, and mostly wine [note the name], but in the back corner there are some fridges with micros and also some shelving with micros. So, go all the way through the store to find the good stuff!
They had a good selection of beer, among them: Ommegang, Stone, Rogue, DFH, Chimay, Allagash, Brooklyn, Long Trail, etc. Many more. I filled up a box and staggered back to my B & B.
The service was very good. We were asked if we needed any help and they even helped us find some World Wide Stout which he first thought they were out of. More impressively, we were later driving by and the guy was outside the store...he recognized me and came over to our car to tell me about the beers he had just unloaded! Impressive display of customer service.
Overall, if you are in the South End, it is certainly worth stopping in.

They have beer. They have a good selection of those beers we can never seem to find at a local liquor store.
This has to be one of the top 5 places that I know of in Boston for us "Beer Lovers" to purchase our specialty brews.
I make weekly trips to this store.
Worth going to if you want to try something new, which is what I am all about doing.
I will be back to update my review with a list of what you would find at this store.
I am going be adding BEER LISTS to all my reviews on local stores in the Boston Area, I feel like it would be a great help to those in search of a certain Brewery or beer(if I have the time to be that specific) so check my reviews in the near future.
