12 ounce bottle that I opened too harshly and foamed over (be careful dooodes) into Barilla spaghetti sauce jar.
A: Reddish amber with a huge head that foamed over my jar then dwindles down to nothing but a wee collar and the flimsiest film. Decent lacing. The residue on my hands smells of beeswax! Yum!
S: Wow!. Honeysuckle and other wunderbar nectars. I know how bees feel now.
T: Pretty nice, let's see if I can describe: Fresh caramels just like mom makes melded with fresh dark chocolate cake, but these are only hints atop a nectar sweet maltiness that drys out and on the swallow you get the nice hop effect with a nice bitter that leaves your mouth dry... actually bittersweet because there is a nice residual sugar in the aftertaste as well.
M: Bubbly Bubbly but nothing of the nasty forced carbonation that our teen-aged years were gassed out with. Very medium to full atop the bubbly.
D: Drink this. It is the best I have had in a long time!!

Serving: On tap in a pint
Served: 29 April 2014
Appearance: Pours a clear amber brown, so it looks more like a standard bock than a helles Bock. One finger white head that quickly collapses due to the ABV, but leaves no lacing behind. I would have liked to see this one a little lighter in color and with a more substantial head.
Smell: Very subtle hop notes with a huge sweet malt backbone.
Taste: This one was really sweet. The malts in this are almost sugary sweet, which as a bit surprising. Notes of pear and white wine, surprisingly. Little to no hop bitterness or flavor. Alcohol masked perfectly.
Mouthfeel: Good carbonation makes this one feel on the lighter, more refreshing side.
Overall: Not a half bad brew, but nothing special. This one struck me as more of a standard bock than a helles Bock, especially due to the malt sweetness. The one redeeming aspect of the flavor was that it tasted more like lighter, white fruits than toffee or caramel which would be the dominant flavors in a standard bock. This isn't a terrible offering form Upland, but not anything special.

Attractive amber, with a pleasing head of fine white bubbles. Lace is spotty, though.
Nose is grainy and toasty, even nearing sweet. Decent.
Taste is also toasty and malty, with touches of raisin and dried fruit. Actually, this one is as near to an amber ale as a bock, for me, with it's sweet and toasty character. Not bad, but not world-class, either.

This beer was sampled on-tap at the Illiana Mayfest on 5/26/2012.
The beer was a somewhat orange color giving a malty aroma that was slight. The initial impression was a slightly sour malt flavor that morphs into a more tart taste in the finish. There was not a lot of complexity to this beer. I was anticipating a certain degree of sweetness, though it never arrived. The mouthfeel was average for the style. Carbonation allowed the beer to linger just long enough for me to realize the bber was one-dimensional.

Bottle shared by plank10. Thanks Nick.
The beer is orange hued with a thin white head that leaves sparse lacing on the glass. The aroma carries grain, fruit, malt, sweetness. Smells like a bock. The taste follows suit, with a present sweetness throughout. Fruit, grains, and a bit of alcohol. Fairly thin in body. A decent beer, but not on par with the authentic German examples of the style.

12 ounce bottle, bottled in April 2011. Served in a mug, the beer pours a slightly hazy orange/amber color with about an inch off-white head. The head goes away quickly, and there isn't much lacing. Aroma is sweet and malty, the brew smells like bready malt, dark fruit, toffee and a little bit of grassy hops. Taste is mostly sweet, it tastes like toffee, bready and caramel malt, and some grassy hops. Mouthfeel/body is light/medium, it's a bit syrupy and slick with good carbonation. I'd like to try a fresher bottle of this, but this one wasn't too bad at all. $1.99 for a single bottle at Liquor Barn.

amber color, some light haze to it and lots of visible carbonation. A smallish white head rose up, but quickly settled down leaving mostly nothing in its wake.
The aroma was loaded with grain. Light fruit vibes and a ton of malt. Nothing in here really led me to think this was a barley wine of any kind. A big malty bock would be completely accurate here. More of this carried over into the flavor as well. Lots of light grainey malts, with some light hints at a grass like hope profile, but mostly just a classic bock like taste. Not much alcohol and a thin feel to it as well.
