Poured from a corked and caged bottle courtesy of Abbbp into a Prairie Teku glass.

Appearance: Dark crimson/brown, with a beige head and moderate lacing. Head stays behind as a thick creamy crown.

Smell: Syrupy raspberries, balsamic vinegar, more vinegar.

Taste: Wow, this is too much for this big fan of sour, fruited beers. Super vinegary, and incredibly syrupy raspberry as well. Could only take a few sips before I had to drainpour. So sour it actually hurts. Yeah, I can't take this one.

Mouthfeel: Sticky, decently carbed. Lingers a while.

Overall: A huge disappointment. I don't drain pour beers easily, but this one was just way too sour for us. And the fruit was too syrupy. A swing and a miss by Upland/New Belgium. It seemed to me that I was drinking raspberry balsamic vinaigrette that had been pushed through a SodaStream. Just not a pleasant experience really.

Poured into upland snifter. Pours a deep red with minimal clarity. Some brownish head forms and retains relatively well considering the style. The nose starts with tart cherries and red grapes. Heavy oak comes in and brings on some tannic notes. Mellow hints of candied sweetness come through, heavy lactobacillus, and a hint of raspberries. The nose is very similar to La Folie which isn't surprising considering the same base beer makes up a hefty percentage of this blend. Taste is incredibly tart. I feel that the new belgium influence tames down the battery acid tartness that some Upland brews exhibit which brings it to a nice happy balance of tartness. Mouthfeel is moderate with appropriate carbonation. Overall, this is an incredible beer. Tons of layers of complexity, plenty of tartness for the sourhead, and a nice feature of fruit and oak underneath.

Poured from a 750 mL bottle into a snifter. Reviewed from notes from earlier tonight.

Appearance: Pours a brown with a slight orange hue. Leaves a finger of off white head. Some carbonation bubbles can be seen.

Smell: Jammy raspberry, slight funk, red wine, oak, vinegar, slight acidity. The raspberry really shines.

Taste: More sour than the aroma - tart jammy raspberry, cherry, lime, red wine, oak, dry tart finish. Maybe 5/10 on my sour scale. Nice balance between sweet and tart berries.

Mouth-feel: Medium to well carbonated with a medium, creamy body. Slightly dry finish.

Overall: Fantastic raspberry aroma with a slightly more sour flavor that works really well with the berry and oak. Delicious.
