A- pours a purple color with a lighter pinkish purple short lived head. No lacing.

S- solid funk and oak hit the nose at first with notes of barnyard, horse blanket and tart fruitiness. Some lemony citric quality in the middle with oak and subtle blueberry on the finish.

T- great tart acidity hit the palate at first with lovely funk and oak playing off each other. Zesty citric quality with a touch of earthy Brett in the middle. Finishes with a hint of blueberry and lingering sour, oak and funk.

MF- bubbly champagne like mouthfeel with a light medium body and active playful carbonation.

D- very good drinkability.

Overall a great sour. I just wish the blueberry had been a little more prominate.

Vintage 2010 poured into snifter.

Appearance: dark purple / indigo bodied beer with a one finger high dark purple head.

Smell: Lots of funk upfront with a vinegar note to compliment it. Faint blueberries.

Taste: This one is all about the sour part of the beer. Did not get a huge amount of fruit off this sour, but its is there about mid palate that you get some of the blueberry fruitiness. The beer starts and finishes with sour and funk.

Mouthfeel: Light bodied beer with carbonation that is on the high end of moderate. The beer finishes dry and it also refreshing.

Overall: This is Upland sour is in the middle of the road. Blackberry and kiwi are still my favorite Upland sours!

This beer pours a dark blue color with very little light getting through. The smell is tart and funky with A nice blurbery aroma. The flavor is tart not sour and the blueberry flavor is very noticeable. The mouthfeel is slightly fuller than expected but good. Overall this is a great beer.

Thanks to Adam H for sharing at his birthday tasting.

This pours a strange hue of purple with a small fizzy head rising and falling to a ring. The nose is unreal, a great mixture of blueberries, sweat, and general funk. There isn't a massive combination of flavors going on, just an amazing mixture of a few things. In the mouth it didn't impress as much, but there is a great tartness backing up the blueberries. The body is medium light with a long, dry finish.

Overall, this is a fine beer. If somehow Upland could figure out how to get the nose into the mouth, they'd have something really special on their hands.

I think this was Batch #3? Bottled 09/27/2010. Batch 42-09. Served in a Delerium Tremens snifter.

A - Quick-dissolving white foam settles to a thick collar, spotty partial cap, and no lace. Hazy dark purple-blue color that gets increasingly turbid as one works through the bottle.

S - Lots of wild blueberries, lactic acidity, spicy wood, and some funky sweetness as well.

T - Taste isn't quite as enjoyable. There's a lactic sourness that reminds me of umpteen other generic American wilds, some unsweetened blueberry skins, oak, and some soda water astringency - perhaps even a touch mineral.

M - Medium body, lower carbonation, smooth texture, with a dry, tannic finish. Surprisingly clean aftertaste, and no discernible alcohol. I actually appreciate the lower carbonation as more bubbles likely would have aggravated the astringency.

D - I remember liking this more when it was fresh - I wouldn't age this batch further to be honest. It's lacking complexity with lactic acidity dominating the other flavor elements. Still, an improvement from the flat early batches. It was really easy to put down a bottle, even with minimal help.
