750ml bottle - cork & cage - Batch 77-08 - Bottled 2/5/10

Pours into my glass a deep, vibrant red. Basically opaque with a half inch of pink foam on top that falls to a ring around the glass. Aromas of fresh, ripe raspberries off the bat along with an underlying lemon tartness. Earthy accents with a great Brett kick. Barnyard funkiness with a nice grainy undertone.

First sip brings a mix of bright, fresh raspberry along with lemon zest upfront. Mild grainy malts meld into an acidic tartness that runs across the palate. Brett and mellow oak tones converge. As it flows down there's a somewhat cheesy flavor along with the barnyard accents. Puckering on the finish and not overly acidic, which is nice. A really lovely raspberry lambic!

Mouthfeel is smooth and light with a bright carbonation. This one does go down pretty easily and is quite wonderful. Probably the best batch I've tried. Cheers to Upland for taking the time and effort to brew these lovely lambics. Well worth the effort to seek out.

Thanks, barkingelectron!

Careful all, this one's a gusher!

This beer pours a murky, hazed pink and light ruby with a pillowy, thick, quickly forming pink head that eventually leaves webs of lacing down the glass. A bit lighter in color than Upland's Cherry Lambic, but similar in appearance.

The aroma is bright and acidic and very fruit-forward, with lots of authentic raspberry aroma. There's a mild hint of funk, but the sour acidity and raspberry aromas are dominant.

As has been my experience with other Upland sour lambics, this one is hugely sour. Along with the aggressive sourness is a lot of bright raspberry flavor, and little else--exactly what I was hoping for.

Medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation. A joy to sip on.

Delicious raspberry sour, though not as complex as the cherry variation or simply delicious as the persimmon.

2010 batch.

750ml bottle and it's another gusher! Opened over the sink but had wine glasses at the ready, so loss was minimal.

It pours a light, red cola with a fluffy white head. This looks so damn good! Like sitting at the end of the counter at the soda jerk, at least, that what old tyme movies have led me to believe.

Raspberry, cherries, lemon zest and slight vinegar and horse funk in the nose.

This tastes amazing! Plenty of upfront raspberry with the rest of the berries co-mingling with the star of the show. It's a little puckering, but nothing more than say, NG Cran-bic. There seems to be a bready quality here as well. It's mostly a fruit party though.

This lambic has a medium, dry finish and drinks very crisp.

This is my second experience with Upland lambics, first being the last batch of Strawberry, which was atrocious. Compared to that bottle, this one blows it out of the stratosphere. I will be getting more when the wider release rolls around!

Bottle poured into a Cantillon Tulip. 2012 Bottle

A - Color is a deep dark Ruby red that reminds you of the color of fresh raspberries. There is a big frothy pinkish head that sits on top of this one

S - The main note in the nose is fresh raspberries that leans a bit to the tarter raspberry side. There is also lemon, balsamic vinegar and light oak.

T - Taste is pure sour raspberries up front. There is a strong balsamic vinegar and lemon that comes in the middle that makes you pucker up. The finish is mostly this balsamic vinegar presence that lingers on

M - Medium carbonation and it packs a lot of tingle on the tongue due to the sharp tartness. The finish is dry and leaves a tart, prickly feeling on the tongue

O - This is one of the better Upland sours that I've had as it is tart and packs a lot of the fruit flavor. It is definitely a tart lambic as it has minimal funky characteristics to it.

Bottle shared by Dan - thanks! This is the original (at least what I think is original) batch, released two years ago.

Pours a hazy bright red color that turns red-orange near the top of the pour. The head is made up of a half-finger of slightly off-white foam that dissipates into a wispy layer on top leaving decent lacing.

Smells of ripe and moderately tart raspberries along with sweeter strawberries. Also present are slight hints of vanilla from the oak and slighter hints of funk.

Tastes very similar to how it smells. Indistinct malt flavors kick things off along with light amounts of wheat and are joined quickly by large raspberry and strawberry flavors. The berry flavors are tart up front but midway through the sip they sweeten up a bit and allow small amounts of funk into the profile. Soft vanilla flavors work their way into things near the end of the sip before fading out into a lightly tart ending.

Mouthfeel is good. It's got a nice thickness with grainy carbonation.

Drinkability is very good. I finished my glass quickly and could easily have a few more.

Overall I was a very big fan of this beer, as I was of the other sour I've had from Upland. Very well balanced and not much room for improvement - worth a shot.

My bottle thanks to Jon. I do not know horizontally if better than strawberry but still decent drinker. Sour aroma. Aggressive carbonation, but mouthfeel a=overall still good. Sour in taste, some raspberry and other berries there including strawberry.
