Bottled 12/6/10

A - Pours a hazy orange-tinges golden brown with very little head and no lacing to speak of.

S - Substantial funkiness and a nice tart lactic nose. Kiwi is there as well, but a bit faint.

T - Nice lactic tartness, followed by some oak, kiwi and some other fruit, and yeasty funk. Also faintly buttery. Finishes with lingering tartness, but not particularly dry.

M - Fuller mouthfeel than I was expecting, but nicely carbonated to give a lusciousness.

O - My first of the Upland lambics, and this definitely has me looking forward to the others. Sour and funky, but also a nice fruit presence.

Bottle (2011)

Thanks, MeisterSmudge!

(Aged for 1+ year)

Clear goldenrod and dark yellow with a thin near-white cap. Spots of stick down the glass.

Lots of earthy funk in the aroma pressed up against bright, lactic sour character. There's definitely a white and green fruit presence as well, though it'd be tough to say "kiwi" without the obvious prompting. Regardless, this smells wonderful.

And the taste is just as good as the aroma. Lots of bright lactic sour character, earthy funk, and white and green fruit flavors. Exceptionally drinkable. Crisp, refreshing, and very sour.

Medium bodied with high carbonation.

Well this was the "sour" beer we picked out to drink if Lesnar lost, and he did, just like my other 2 picks that night.

Good dull yellow pour, there are actual fruit flesh from the kiwi floating in the beer as well as a grip of sediment and yeast and whatnot in this beer. Pungent sour aroma, much like a gueuze, big time lactic notes, you would think there was pear, apple and kiwi to this one, but was layered, there was some bretty aspects as well.

The taste is extremely sour, I cracked up reading some of the reviews that said theirs wasn't sour enough, jeez, I love a beer as sour as possible pretty much, and this was fantastic upper echelon for that. Not too sweet, the sour was definitely so dominant. A chalky, bretty moment in the mouthfeel, goes nice with the fruit and sour notes. Big time acidity, tastes like equal parts orange juice and kiwi. Fat carbonation seems a pro pro here.

What really impressed me was how much flavor this had, this beer followed Black Tuesday and cut quite nicely through it.

This is a beer I can see drinking again and again. That was my only bottle, so anybody reading this with a bottle, I'd prolly trade you something good for it.

A - Dark golden color with a few floaters on it with a small white head

S - Sweettarts and white vinegar. Slight kiwi fruit presence. Slightly reminds me of sauerkraut 4

T - Lemon, white vinegar and sweettarts up front. Slight kiwi presence in there that shows up but doesn't cut the tartness.

M -Not that much carbonation but slightly prickly from the tartness. Lingering dryness in the finish

O - Really tart lambic from upland that reminds me of Sour Reserve with a hint of kiwi to it

Reviewed from notes. Batch 1, a big thanks to Chris for sharing this. Poured into tulip, color is golden yellow with no head. Smell is hay, berries, sweet malts and bready dough. Taste is very interesting - Coconut, kiwis, cloves. The kiwi is suprisingly good, not a flavor I thought would come through in a beer this well. A tiny hint of sourness in the finish. Mouthfeel is medium bodied and near still, some acidity in the finish. A very good beer but I wouldnt exactly say it is a lamic. Good drinkability for whatever the style actually is.

Thanks to TPatuto (Tom) for this one. Shared with capra12 and schen9303 at an Upland tasting. Poured from a corked and caged bottle (batch 77-08, bottled 2/5/10) into a Darkness snifter. Paired with the fruit.

Beer pours no head and leaves no lace. Nearly still. Color is a cloudy orange-peach pastel. Score would be lower if not for the style which isn't highly carbonated to begin with.

Nose is a musty lemon tartness. Hay and wood combine to create a slight Brett presence. Very mellow overall and no hint of kiwi.

Opens lemon and a tartness that comes from the white in the center of the kiwi (made clear from the fruit pairing). Hay, Brett, and band-aid accompany an indistinguishable sourness. Finish is tart and slightly sweet with near no aftertaste save for a touch of sour. Pretty plain.

Light to medium bodied with moderate carbonation. Oily and smooth in the mouth and semi-dry going down. Tart finish with a subtle but sticky aftertaste. Appropriate.

Having them side by side, this is clearly the worst of the Upland lambics. The kiwi taste is not overly strong in the first place and placing it in a beer doesn't help that flavor come through. A decent beer overall but nothing like advertised.

RATING #1100 on BA! The tick train rolls on, taking no prisoners. Bottle shared at a tasting thanks to jhenry04 I believe.

Pours a hazy medium golden color with a decently-formed white head with average retention.

The aroma is tart and funky, pretty nice, with light fruits (apple and kiwi) and wild yeast.

The flavor has medium sourness. Pretty standard but well-done wild ale with a little pale malt sweetness poking through the bretty, lactic sour funkiness. Kiwi presence is definitely there, if not too assertive. Tasty, with a considerable rarity presence that doesn't seem quite as strong as that which others picked up in the original (60 bottle?) batch.

Medium-bodied with medium acidity and nice lively carbonation.

A good wild ale overall. Worth seeking out.
