750 ml bottle poured into a goblet.

A- Hazy and yellow, with some whitish hues. The head dies quickly.

S- Tang and funk. Kiwi tartness is subtle, but noticeable.

T- Bright and tangy. Cider, kiwi. A little oaky and funky.

M- Tangy, funky and tart. Sweet tang finish. Light effervescent body.

O- Really nice. Upland has really established themselves in the sour game.

Yellow color with turbidity of either yeast or kiwi fruit particles floating around in a relatively big way. Aroma was powerfully sour, fruity

Taste was brutally sour. Enamel destroying sour. Stomach gonna get tore up. So acidic. I liked it don't get me wrong, the kiwi is nice, but holy shit do they ramp up the power of sour. Heavily carbonated. This beer can cut through anything before it, drink it without fear of it being overwhelmed by a bigger beer drank before it.

Its a good beer, but its very similar to many Cascades that have that innoculated lacto sour that is large, clean and lacks bretty tones throughout it.

I've grown to expect a lot from Upland Lambics and this one definitely didn't disappoint. As the name suggests the Kiwi is a strong and juicy but it keeps the sweet, sour, tart and tanginess that Upland is doing so well.

Cloudy, opaque peachy-orange colored brew. Head immediately dissipates to absolute nothing.

Aroma is pure gueuze: musty, rustic, and slightly sharp, with a touch of dirt.

On the palate, the brew is extremely sharp and tart. Lemon juice, lacto, kiwi, and star fruit; really, really sour, but favoring fruit and citric acid vice vinegar. Touches of both oak and straw.

Extremely puckering brew, making it a slow sipper despite the relatively easy-going ABV. Oily; medium-light body.

Batch 2 with a few years on it.

Sharp acidity as expected but a surprising amount of funk and cheesiness that adds some authentic lambic character. It's in the cleaner lacto lambic vein though so don't expect Cantillon barnyard. Kiwi, being a subtle flavor, is their but obviously not overwhelming.

A very good beer that exceeds its rating.

Bottle from the Brewery
Slightly hazy straw color with a decent white head. Tart acidic citric and lactic with hints of earth and what I perceive as a hint of lime. Solid puckering, I'm not sure if I would pick out kiwi in this blind, but I enjoyed this nonetheless.

A: Pours a very cloudy...tangerine? Mid-sized and soda-like fizzy pale orange head. Head fizzes out fast leaving zero lacing or head retention at all.

S: Kiwi. Very sour. SUPER sour. Almost smells like acetone.

T: More or less the same. Super sour kiwi and citrus. Like pure lemon juice concentrate. A little bit of acetone in the finish but not as harsh as the aroma. Long lingering burning sour lemon aftertaste.

M: Lighter bodied, very sour.

O: One of the most sour beers I've ever had. Hurts my teeth. So acidic and sour it stung a small cut that I had on my lip. Nice flavor of mostly sour lemon but a bit of kiwi. Not as much as I was expecting, however. Must-try for the sour bomb lover because this one is serious.

Smelled a tiny bit of sulphur, not unpleasant. Super sour, a gold standard of enamel killing, puckery goodness. Worth sharing since it's so powerful.

Appearance - The beer was golden yellow in color with apparent carbonation.

Smell - The beer smell like a fairly run of the mill sour.

Taste - This is a very potent sour. The sour masks most of the kiwi notes with an almost syrupy texture. The sourness never really fades until a dry aftertaste becomes apparent.

Mouthfeel - For a sour, this seems unusually thick.

Overall - This sour is more sour than average, but is very enjoyable.

A-Cloudy yellow orange, not much carbonation or head.

S-Funk, mild kiwi, oh and more funk.

T-One of the most sour beers I've ever had. Some Kiwi but really acidic and funky.

M-Lighter, not much carbonation, tad watery.

O-Just too sour. And that is something I never thought I would say.

This beer is harshly tart, like most other Uplands, and painfully so. The kiwi flavor peeks its way through, but in general, the tart quality is overwhelming and wholly cringe and pain worthy.

750 mL bottle poured into a snifter. 2014 bottle.

Appearance - Hazy. Bright orange. Almost no head. A tiny collar.

Smell - Acidic. Whoa. Fruity. Lots of oak and some vanilla.

Taste - Really sour. Strong kiwi. Gets extremely sour very quickly. Tropical fruit sourness, like passionfruit. Woody, but that is also overwhelmed.

Mouthfeel - Medium low carbonation. Silly sourness.

Overall - If you like excessively sour beers, you'll like this. I get the kiwi up front, but then it's all sourness.

Scored in a trade for a Parabola. Now I'm regretting that decision.

A - Pours a really pretty orange. The head has zero retention so once it settles down it looks like a glass of juice. Very thick and hazy.

S - Sour, funky yeast. Lots of citrus peels but doesn't really resemble kiwi. Just smells very tart.

T - Acid BOMB. No kiwi present at all. This doesn't even taste like a fruited beer. Pure lacto and sour. Resembles a warhead. Very one dimensional and dumb.

F - Burn, lots of acid burn in the mouth and just sour. I actually had heartburn an hour after drinking this.

O - One dimensional, sensationalized beer that is getting way too much hype.

Bottle: Poured a light yellow color lambic with a nice pure white foamy head with good retention and light lacing. Aroma of paint thinner is pretty intense with quite a bit of acidic notes and sour notes also perceptible. Taste is also dominated by paint thinner notes with intense sour notes and quite a bit of acidic notes. Kiwi is quite hard to distinguish. Body is light with good carbonation. The paint thinner notes were a big turn-off for me.

This was by far the sourest Upland I've had to date. Not sure I was getting much kiwi in the taste or smell, but it was enjoyable for someone that likes enamel stripping sourness.

I cannot believe the high marks this is getting. It starts out ok with a nice, hazy gold/tangerine color. Lacto heavy citrus nose. The first sip is where everything goes wrong. Extreme puckering and enamel erasing blast immediately. Lacto overpowered everything in this. Couldnt finish it. Complete mess. I love upland, but this falls flat on its face.

Appearance: Pours a hazy golden color with a wisp of a head; little retention or lacing

Smell: Lemon, kiwi and lactic sour tones

Taste: Lemon and kiwi tones, up front, with increasing lactic sourness through the middle; both sweet and sour tones intermingle through the finish

Mouthfeel: Light body with low carbonation

Overall: Another nice fruited lambic from Upland; not as sour as some of the others

By far my favorite beer from the Upland sour series.

I should preface, however, by saying that most of Upland's offering are quite polarizing. While I quite enjoy the flavor of Upland's sour series, many of those with whom I trade describe their beers as "one dimensional lacto bombs" that they almost always "drain pour."

Now, onto the beer.

Imagine opening a special bag of kiwi flavored Warheads that dissolved rapidly and mixed cohesively with a bottle of pretty basic and straightforward lambic. That is what you get with this beer.

It is overly sour and very, very acidic. It even begins to hurt your tongue after a few pours, the way eating too many kiwis can when self restraint has boldly walked out the door.

It is uniquely good in a nostalgic way. Definitely one of my favorite sours, regardless of its simplicity and lack of balance.

750ml bottle dated 5.13.14 into a Burgundy glass at fridge temp, allowed to warm (acquired via trade—thanks DMaCATO).

Look: murky golden tangerine, with lots of carbonation but no head.

Smell: tangy fruit (kiwi of course, also citrus rind), confectioner's sugar, some wood/dirt.

Taste: tart fruit, confectioner's sugar/marshmallow, savory/funky cheese or meat. Sour at first, but quickly transitions to sweet. Pretty reminiscent of almost-perfectly-ripe kiwi, which also has a lot of biting tartness, but plenty of sweetness and a bit of an earthy element.

Feel: tingly carbonation, particularly in the throat, but a surprisingly creamy feel. Medium bodied and dry, but not overly so.

Overall: I was surprised by how much I enjoyed this, especially after seeing some of the other reviews complain of rampant sourness and minimal kiwi flavor. This is less sour than, say, La Folie, and has a lot of flavors other than "sour" going on—it hits the kiwi perfectly, but there's also some creamy sweetness and funk. Superb.

pour is hazy pale amber white a white head. Nose is bright kiwi with faint brett notes. Fruit and tart. Taste has more barrel, lots of fresh sawdust and kiwi behind. Funk is lighter than most uplands but barrel is very present. Finish is extremely tart and has a bit of acetic acid. Body is light and highly carbonated.

Have had this multiple times in the past year. Basically this is just pure acid. The liquid in the bottle has barely any kiwi flavor to it and is so sour that it feels like the enamel is being stripped from my teeth and it attacks the lining in my stomach. It's barely drinkable. This was from the first lottery batch. I hope the second round is more palatable. I enjoy sours, but this one needs more kiwi flavor and less sour.

Backlog from Zwanze Day 2014.

2010 Bottle - sourness was over the top. Kiwi was way in the back but was still slightly present. Very good but I think a bit past it's prime.

Bottled 12/2010.

Appearance: Upland Kiwi pours a slightly hazy golden color with a hint of white head. Not a ton of carbonation is apparent, which results in a low amount of head, and poor retention as well as lacing.

Smell: Lacto sourness and lemon tartness first and foremost. A hint of fruity sweetness is present as well, which could be construed as kiwis.

Taste: Very similar to the smell. Lacto notes and sour lemons, with a lingering fruity, kiwi-like sweetness on the back end intermingling with tartness.

Mouthfeel/Overall: Light bodied with low carbonation. Pretty good, but the carbonation could be a touch higher. Overall, a nice lambic. As compared to the Cherry Lambic, the extra hint of kiwi sweetness adds an extra dimension.

A- Pours a deep golden in color with a fairly hazy body. A very small amount of head forms but is gone almost as fast as it appears. There is no lacing to be had. Really good looking in the glass aside from the lack of a head.

S- The scent of this one starts off with a huge sour attack on the nostrils. Just maybe the slightest hint of kiwi mixes in with the sour smell. The tartness is almost entirely lambic-like in quality with just a touch of dry barrel scents.

T- This beer starts off just like its scent; with a giant sour attack upon the senses. A small amount of kiwi is barely detectable right up front and is very sour, but the following lambic tartness is even more sour. Towards the middle-end of the drink the barrel kicks in with some dryness that increases the intensity of the tartness. Lingering kiwi flavor at the end that is accompanied by, of course, intense lambic tartness.

M- This beer is rather sticky across the palate. The overall feel is heavier than one might expect for the style, and that is intensified up by the level of acidic tartness. The tartness also slows the drink considerably.

Overall, this may be the most sour beer I've ever had, and I think that is the combo of a sour fruit with the lambic base. It does display some kiwi flavor, but no copious amounts. This is really a beer for those that like to pucker.

My sister finally won an Upland lottery, woot. Old review from notes: 8 oz. into a white wine glass on February 1st, 2014.

A - Very hazy golden, crisp bubbles line the top edge, no real lacing or retention.

S - Lime peel, hay, soft mandarin, oak shavings, and yes - some definite kiwi peel.

T - The fruit component has a wonderfully oily quality about it, as though the kiwi has some real density to it. Lemon, white wine vinegar, super tart Granny Smith apple, honey, and slight candied walnuts.

M - High carbonation, light-medium body, a touch tannic, extremely dry finish.

D - Finally I get to try some of the best Upland has to offer. This is worth the hassle and should be opened very fresh. It's already more bitingly-tart than if expected and I wouldn't want to lose any more balance from the kiwi.
