Notes from 11/06/10
A:Pours a non transparent oil black with a fingers worth of tan head that slowly
falls leaving very nice lacing down the glass.
S:Nose picks up pleasant roasty malts, chocolate, vanilla, and some molasses in the mix
as well. Very inviting and pleasing.
T:Flavor is just as the nose detects, roasty malts up front and in the middle leading into
the backend where chocolate and vanilla start to dominate the palate. Some hops also
make their way in on the backend. Very nicely balanced but just enough to still let the individual flavors come thru.
M:A solid body is on this one with ample carbonation, palate is left very moist with a nice coating of chocolate that lingers on the tongue. A very small hint of alcohol is in there but for the most part very well hidden.
D:There has been a lot of hyped talked around this and I was pretty excited to try it and
I was not disappointed. Rich and complex flavor that goes down very smoothly and very easy for the ABV. This is one I could drink all night long and probably get myself in trouble doing so. Seek this one out.

22 ounce bottle into snifter, bottled in 10/2013. Pours pitch black color with a 1 finger dense tan head with good retention, that reduces to a small cap that lingers. Spotty soapy lacing clings around the glass. Aromas of big dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, raisin, toast, light char, toffee, fudge, and roasted earthiness. Very nice aromas with good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and cocoa nib notes; with good strength. Taste of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, light char, toast, toffee, fudge, and roasted earthiness. Fair amount of roasted bitterness on the finish; with lingering notes of dark chocolate, cocoa, roasted malt, coffee, light char, toast, toffee, fudge, and roasted earthiness on the finish for a while. Very nice balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and cocoa nib flavors; with a nice roasted bitterness/sweetness balance and zero cloying flavors after the finish. Medium carbonation and fairly full bodied; with a creamy, slick, and lightly chalky mouthfeel that is good. Alcohol is very well hidden with only a slight warming present after the finish. Overall this is a very nice imperial stout. All around good balance and complexity of dark/roasted malt and cocoa nib flavors; and very smooth to sip on for the ABV. A very enjoyable offering.
