Persimmon was the first beer developed in the Upland Sour Ale Program to utilize a fruit from a native North American species of flora. A popular Midwestern delicacy, Persimmon is a fruited sour ale that showcases the distinct fruit characteristics of American persimmons melded with a mildly tart base of sour ale. Similar to a Witbier in appearance, light straw colors are accompanied by fresh aromas of persimmon, pear and peaches. Lactic tanginess, field flavors and dry fruits create a refreshing and
experiential taste. The finish is very dry, with lingering persimmon flavor.

Had this back in August 2017 while camping with the fam and elrogish up in Oregon. 6.4% abv on this one.
Pours a color that looks just like the persimmons on the label, roughly 'orange', didn't really hold much of a head, fizzed up and down into just a film basically. The aroma was all sour power persimmons, which I would describe similar to tangelos even though they look like different colored tomatoes. The oak contribution doesn't affect much in the way of taste, moreso on the mouth feel giving a drying effect after the persimmon lemon and tangelo like sourness and taste. These are well known for their sourness being through the roof. This was high, but not as sour and acidic as the kiwi one. Both were enjoyable nonetheless, but you gotta realize what you're getting into.
Carbonation was good on this even though it realistically sat at room temperature for a few years. Its a massive sour running around 9 on the 10 pt wild ale scale. Some rip on it, but I'd be happy to have another one of these again.

Look is golden hay with a burst of white head that dissipates into nothing before you are done pouring.
Aroma is huge tart and some sort of fruit. I've never had a persimmon but the smell could be related to a peach or lemon. I'm not quite sure.
Taste is mouth puckering tart (in a good way) upfront, some kind of fruit mid palette, and finishes dry with a tartness that just won't quit. I'm loving it.
Feel is lively, crisp and dry. Carb is high as you can hear the carbonation upon pouring.
Overall a fantastic sour. The fruit isn't as recognizable as some of their others like cherry and peach but maybe that's just because I can't ever remember eating a persimmon. This beer is really good especially if you like sours.

I do love persimmons--possibly my favorite fruit, if they're good ones. That said, I've never had an Indiana persimmon. I learned to love them during the seven years I lived in southern California and got them directly from the local farmers' markets. That said, I'm not sure if this beer gives me much insight into local Indiana agriculture, because I don't get a lot of fruit from the ale. This batch bottled in January 2017 is still a classy, refined sour, to be sure, but not one imbued, or even tinged, with a particular lot of fruit flavor. I get a sour blonde with a suggestion of cinnamon and a bit of reassuring pulpy sweetness amidst a dry finish. Enjoyable, but given a blind lineup of fruited Uplands, I would have a tough time identifying this one as fruited, much less nailing the particulars.

A - Golden yellow body, superbly clear first pour, more cloudy during the second, bright throughout, with strong carbonation, very little head, no real lacing. Pretty.
S - Both fruit and fermented acidity. A hint of horse blanket and barn, grass and floral notes, all behind sharp acid.
T - Damn. Superb bright acidity in the open, a sweet tart type flavor, a middle that brings richer tart persimmon aspect, and the close closes with a mild bite.
M - Very sharp acidity, but not unpleasant for the style. And super clean - no sign of harsh chemical or muddiness.
O - This is a fine lambic from Upland, and it delivers with fruit and sourness. Delicious. So glad I got it.
