Opened this bottle on New Years Eve. Fittingly poured into a champagne flute.

Appears nearly black. Has a nice frothy head - sandy in color. Average retention.

The aroma was immediatly funky. Dusty and dank. It has all of the prototypical souring bacteria funk without much actual sourness in there. Also a bit grassy and flowery with more subtle hints of red wine and leather.

Tastes mildly sour, but also nice and malty. Sweet but not too much so. Caramel. Acid. Bitter berry greens on the finish.

The carbonation is actually rather restrained and not bad at all.

This was a nice, balanced sour. I typically dislike darker sours but this one did the trick well.

Not quite two years old. I bought it about a year ago and have been properly cellaring it ever since, because I'm a fancyman and my home is equipped with a real-life cellar.

Pours very dark, medium fizzy with a whole helluva lot of particulates floating tantalizingly within. To think, there's some people who are so square they get turned off by the sight of yeast floating in their beer. The mind boggles...

Smells a little tame. I worry that maybe I had it in the fridge too long. Even cold, big brett and lactobacillus nodes are present, with tinges of cherries, raspberries, and ascorbic acid against light wisps of alcohol. Again, tantilziing. (As it warms, the fruit nodes mellow but the overall flavor becomes more complex, livened by vinous hints of oak).

Tastes woodier and more mellow, but still very pleasantly tart. Big lactobrett starts things off, getting mellowed out by nodes of wood and booze about halfway down your tongue, and ending on a natural-seeming, fruity tartness that's similar to the aftertaste of a pomegranate.

This is an absolute gem.

Thanks to ericandersnavy for sharing this bottle. My first sour from Upland.

The beer pours a reddish-amber color with a tan head. The aroma is heavy on the flowers, with some tartness and flowery notes mixed in. Interesting.

The flavor is more of the same. I get toffee and cocoa up front, but I also get some floral notes and some light tartness. The beer is not as sour as I expected it to be. There are some nice fruit notes to the beer.

Medium mouthfeel and medium carbonation.

My Bottle from a forgotten good store. Above average mouthfeel. Darker colour than you would normally see from the style.Bretty. Coca cola,nutmeg, pepper, mint, and we need more of that than the sourness from the remaining lactic acid. Aged close to a year. Bubbly head. Cross saison/mild.

Thanks to Claaark (Sean) for this one. Shared with capra12 and schen9303 at an Upland tasting. Poured from a corked and caged bottle (bottled 7/12/10) into a Darkness snifter.

Pours a .5 finger light coffee colored foamy head with low retention. Beer is slight cloudy, dark brown. Stringy and patchy lace with moderate cling. Color is a bit off-putting.

Nose is an odd combination of soap, mint, plastic, and sweet grapes. Not bad, but very strange.

Opens sweet grape, spicy, plastic. Yeasty towards the middle with some Brett funkiness and cane sugar. Some residual sweetness towards the end with just a touch of tart. Not really sour at all and the barrel characteristic is almost entirely missing. A touch too sweet too.

Light to medium bodied with moderate to high carbonation. Prickly and bubbly in the mouth and abrasive doing down. Smooths nicely as it warms though. Messy finish with a clean aftertaste. Good for its style.

A pretty middle-of-the-road beer here. A bit too sweet with near no funk and little to no tartness. I'm not really sure what was trying to be accomplished here but the end result, why not bad, is a bit pedestrian.

750ml bottle shared by someone at the post-Bruery bottle share. Forgive me for not knowing who it was through all the melee going on there.

Hazy dark brown with a lasting light tan head.

Wild funky dark fruit aroma, sour, acetic, and funky, with some roastiness.

Slightly sweet and sour flavor. Very tasty. Somewhat acetic with caramel and roasty malt notes, red wine, berries, and some floral aspects.

Medium-full body with average carbonation and good acidity.

Another solid sour beer from Upland. These guys are really getting their act together as far as the wilds go.

Dark brown with an aggressive sand colored head. The head and carbonation is persistent and leaves a cascading lace.

Aroma is Apple cider vinegar, brown sugar, and light anise.

Acidic, apples, vinegar, ginger, light peppery finish.

Light body with high carbonation.

A very nice beer. I like the peppery finish in contrast with the acidity.

Massive thanks to womencantsail for sharing this one at Beachwood BBQ during the Bruery RS Post-Party. Served from bottle into a goblet. Poured a murky brown with a minimal white head. Maintained decent lacing throughout the glass. The aroma was comprised of sweet malt, sour, tart, and floral notes. The flavor was of sweet malt, sour, and tart. It had a light feel on the palate with high carbonation. Overall this brew was quite excellent. A very nice flavor and excellent aroma going on here. A pretty nice Wild Ale without doubt. If you haven't had this it is worth seeking out. Glad I have a bottle set aside for me in a future trade!

Pours a medium/dark brown, hazy and a bit cloudy with a khaki head.

Complex "brown" carmel vegetal nose, with hints of some funk and hints of a light sour. Almost some earthy/mushroom character to the nose. Not bad and it is unique.

Mouthfeel is medium bodied and good balance with, for Upland, a proper carbonation. (Didn't gush!) Retained light/medium carbonation without being fizzy. Decent mouth.
(Note: first taste is very different and one might react negatively; give it a chance with a few tastes before making a judgment. I didn't like it when first tasted; a few tastes later I realized this was a pretty good effort.)

Flavors of earth tones, mushrooms, unsweetened caramel and light tart cherries. There is some wood character undertones. Not as funky as I expected from prior reviews; just a hint of sour and just a hint of funk. Actually was like a decent red ale with some "different" complexities.

All in all, this is one of Uplands best and most assertive flavor profiles in its lambic line. Tasted Blueberry and Peach at the same time. This was the one that cleary left the best impression and was clearly the most complex. I'd drink again.

Caged and corked bottle. Popped at my wedding. Sweetness!

A- Pours a murky brown color with light red hues to it when held to the light. Three finger beige head stays around forever before dying down. Sheet style lacing on the sides of the glass as I drink this down.

S- Tons of darker fruit in the nose. Light cherry scent but I figured there would be more. Some oaky barrel notes blended with a spicy earthy tone. I'm sure as this one ages even more there is going to be more defined aromas. This one is still a baby!

T- Acidic notes right off the get go with the beer. Darker fruits come into play with a light sour cherry note. Some oak present but still I think the malts take over this beer which means it should be still sitting in your cellars people!

M- Medium mouthfeel. Carbonation is getting there and while not all the way I like it it's showing signs of vast carbonation. More darker fruits left on the palate with some acidic tones in the aftertaste. Flavors are starting to take on their own and should be there in a year or so. Very drying on the palate from the alcohol.

D- This beer was good for what it was right now. It still has a long way to go and I'm glad I have someone who has a bottle still. I can't wait to try this in a year or so.

Finally opened this after cellaring for awhile, as instructed by the label. Figured 5 months was long enough.

Sustained pop from the cork, poured into a champagne flute. Highly active carbonation, with champagne streamers trailing up the sides. Murky with a patchy skim across the surface, as the initial head fades. Sticky crown of lacing as it sits in the glass, and all the way down as the glass is drained. Dark mahogany in the center, and a lighter reddish brown in the meniscus.

Soft aroma of musty barrel, minerals, a bit underdeveloped and not showing much funk yet. It's still pleasant and integrates with the rest of the beer.

Mild tartness, woody complexity, earthy and dry in the finish. A hint of washed rind cheese under the wood and dark malt. Well carbonated, it dries out quickly. Lingering woody tannins in the aftertaste. More of an Oud Bruin than anything, and a nice example.

750 ml bottle, not sure what the exact age of it is but I picked it up as part of Upland's recent sour release a couple weekends ago. Served in a Prairie Teku, the beer pours very dark brown with some reddish tints. There's about an inch tan head that stayed around a long time, and a good amount of lacing. Aroma is nice, the brew smells like tart cherries, oak, red grapes, sweet spices and some vinegar. It tastes like tart dark fruit, vinegar, oak, blackberries, earthy spices, and a bit of brown sugar. It's a tasty, tart and fruity brew. Mouthfeel/body is medium, it's smooth and has a good amount of soft carbonation. I thought this was good, glad I got to try this one!

Appearance. Pours a very deep, dark red-brown with a finger of creamy, pale-khaki head.

Smell. Sour cherries and old wood with just a dash of vinegar.

Taste. Sour cherry again, but not as big as the smell would lead on. Some tannic wood with a light, almost herbal bitterness along with some fruity (Belgian) yeast, especially in the finish.

Mouthfeel. Medium body, slick felling, and low+ carbonation.

Overall. A nice wild with some moderate sourness and some interesting complexity from the yeast and the barrel.

750 ml bottle opened by the guys at Upland at the GLBF, the last of the three special bottles they had. 2 oz pour into a taster.

A - Pours a dark brown color but clear. Absolutely no head on it. A ring of very loose bubbles though.

S - The aroma bursts with sourness and wild funk but is backed up with a lightly sweet, floral scent.

T - Interesting weedy floral flavor with a potent lactic, wild sourness. A combination of funk and acidity.

M - The finish is very dry and highly carbonated with a wild, sour, mouth-puckering finish.

D - This is an alright wild that, like the other two 750s of Upland's stuff would be better shared. It didn't impress but that's not to say it's not a good beer. Just lost in a sea of amazing American Wild beers. The name and label are badass though!

Pours cloudy brown with red hues and a small white head fading to little retention or lacing.

A little bit of a toffee sweetness in the aroma with a little bit of berry. Not overly sour aroma.

More malty sweetness in the flavor along with a little berry/cherry tartness. Not very sour at all especially compared to the fruit lambics and not overly complex.

Medium bodied with ample carbonation. Finishes somewhat dry.

Nothing really bad about this, just sort of unimpressive all around. I remember liking this more when it was fresh so not sure if the bottle fell off or my sour palate improved. Most likely the latter. Not a bad beer, but would prefer Uplands fruit lineup or something more sour in general to this.

Rich dark brown, very hazy and cloudy with a rich tan colored head. Excellent retention left behind thick coating side glass lace. Some light carbonation at first, but this quickly diminished.

So intricate and complex, it almost was beyond description. The first notes to come across were funky and sour, which were to be expected, however, letting this one warm up brought about all sorts of goodness. lots of earthy notes and tons of rich dark funk that seemed to really dominate. This one had to warm though to really let you appreciate all of the subtleties that were going on here. Rich notes of caramel and tart cherries, light notes of oak and woodsy like malts. Started out a nice rush of Brett funkiness in all of its glory, rich notes of fruit, cherries layered in on top of that with an almost toffee like flavor as the base. lots of funk comes though in the finish dryin the palate and leaving a smooth finish

overall it was as solid as could be, really well done.

Cloudy reddish-brown. The head recedes to a thin but persistent tan collar.

Smells floral and earthy, mildly sour. Lactic and acetic acid are present, leaning slightly more toward the acetic side. Balsamic vinegar, toasted malt.

The palate is earthy and acetic, the bugs have thinned out the dark malt base quite a bit. Balsamic vinegar and floral flavors lend some depth. Dry and oaky, especially toward the finish. Light in body, easy enough to drink but not particularly outstanding.

Pours black at first glance, but closer inspection reveals a muddy dark brown color, thick, high carbonation during the pour leaves some floaties fron the last third of the bottle. Not really distracting due to the dark color, and the high carbonation also makes for a very thick carpet of eggshell colored head that doesn't go anywhere and leaves some very nice strands of lace swooping around the glass.

The aroma reveals lactic sourness mixed with a milder, floral funkiness. Spice on the nose as well along with some strong esters, leather, and cranberries. Floral lotus-like barnyard funk defines the flavor, followed by lactic acid, coriander, crusty bread, and tart greens. Spots of diacetyl hint at a Flemish Red, but this is more floral and spicy. Moderately sour with a tart and bitter finish with twangs of roast and earth.

What seems very carbonated during the pour fizzles out and becomes an exceptionally integrated and smooth carbonation reminding me of my favorite Flemish Red ales. While the bubbles feel amazing, the body is considerably thin for a dark wild ale. Overall this is a complex and tasty beer. I'd like to see it tweaked to include a touch more malt and body, and this could be an excellent beer. Looking forward to trying the next batch.

Starts like a mediocre sour brown. Then there is a bunch of grassy type spices. Not much else. One of Upland's worse sour offerings. (yet they make a lot it...)

Poured from the bottle into my Hunahpu's snifter.

Appearance: Pours a cloudy reddish brown with a layer of off white head. The head fades to a ring around the edge of the glass.

Smell: There is a red berry tartness with a malt sweetness. I'm also getting a slight vinegar note.

Taste: I'm getting a red berry tartness along with a malt sweetness. There is also a slight vinegar sourness. Not a whole lot more going on here.

Mouthfeel: Medium body with tingly carbonation and a very mildly dry finish.

Overall: I didn't think this beer was very interesting. There was a tart note along with some sweetness, but nothing much more. I'm glad I had this, but I don't know that I would trade for another.

Poured into a tulip. Big thanks to Rempo for this one. 2010 vintage, summoned on 7/12/10.

4.0 A: Pours a murky deep brown color. Two fingers of creamy/frothy hybrid beige head with average retention and nonuniform lacing.

4.0 S: Fairly simple by wild ale standards, but really nice. Good amount of earthy, musky brett funkiness. Some tangy lactic acid, but not really any acetic acid. Oak and a light tannic astringency. A light orange citrus aroma and a touch of spiciness.

4.5 T: More complex than the nose and all the flavors are well integrated. Lots of musky brett funk again. Some combination of spices that combine to taste a little like yerba mate and licorice. A lot fruitier than the nose. I suppose the lactic acid is a big contributor here. I'm picking up plum, wild apple, and cherry foremost with berries on the underside. Maybe a touch of acetic acid as this is just short of mouth puckering. Oak, some yeastiness, and a touch of supple tannins.

4.5 M: Medium body. Good moderate carbonation. Quite creamy and incredibly smooth.

4.5 D: I've been drinking some great sours lately and this is no different. The nose is a bit subdued, but the taste opens up and puts forth a ton of complexity that all contribute to a wonderful whole.

Muddy dark brown with a cream head. Moderate retention and light lacing. Nose has some dark fruits/berries, a complex herbal/spice tone, coffee perhaps and oak? Really peculiar. Taste has cola, herbal, again chocolate/coffee notes, dark fruits and some acidity in the finish. Medium body with some alcohol. Interesting/unique, but I wasn't taken aback by this.

I've been wanting to try this for some time. It's easily the darkest wild I've seen thus far (not having had Bourbonic Plague yet). It pours a dark brown with some ruby highlights with a one finger beige head. Unfortunately, this was a gusher. I suppose I should have thrown this one in the freezer like I did the Strawberry. The aromas are pretty sour and have a good amount of funk. It smells of cherries and dark fruit. It's excellent on the nose. The flavors are hard to describe. It's sweet yet sour. It features kriek likes characteristics, as if oak aged. It also has this odd, vegetable like after taste that you get from some V8 blended juice drinks. It's also a little earthy. I like it though. The flavors aren't as in your face as I expected, or as they could be. This makes it very drinkable. This beer surprised me in being different from what I expected and surprised me again by still being very good.

Bottle. Dark brown pour, white head, quite a few chunks. Aroma of cherries, vinegar, quite lactic, jolly pumpkin like funk. Taste is sour, vinegar, but very fruity, quite sweet some roast caracter on the finale. Palate is silky, low carbed and heavy bodied. Pretty tasty sour.
