Visitors to Bloomington would be well advised to take this over Crazy Horse. Remarkable that a couple of blocks and you feel you are out of town. This felt quite removed from Bloomington's quite lively downtown area and one could park right in front. Quite new inside, light airy tones if a little lacking in atmosphere. There is an outdoor area for the intrepid who do not fear biting insects. Surprisingly empty. I cannot speak to the whole range, but I found the IPA to be quite a reasonable effort - not one that I would take growlers home or make long pilgrimages for but it demonstrated the brewer knew how to make beer. No guests on tap so limited in that regard but to be expected.

Visited 10/26/14 to pick up sour lottery beers and have a few samples and some lunch. Place was crowded 30 minutes after opening, but it was a beautiful Sunday. A simple pick up of 20 sour bottles turned into a 45-minute adventure as no one was sure who was supposed to handle that job.

Had a sample flight of all the yearly on-tap brews and an order of spicy chicken nachos. The waitress brought glasses of water that had flakes of cleaning chemical floating in them which had to be replaced and the nachos weren't overly impressive.
The beers, however, were another matter. They were all sensational. Not a bad one in the bunch.

Overall, the staff definitely needs improvement but the most important thing- the beer was fantastic. Since I live in VA I probably won't go back but I certainly would if I lived closer. Great beer!

A-I grew up in the area and have always loved this place. Inside is nice but can get a bit noisy during busy times. The outdoor seating is a great option and has been expanded in recent years.

Q-The beer is good but not as aggressive as many craft brewers are going. I find that the bigger and more limited they go, the more I like the beer. Their year rounds are well made, enjoyable beers but the craft scene has skewed my palate so far to the hops that I generally look for more. I understand that they have some new releases coming out that I look forward to as well.

S-This is tough. It varies so much by the server. I've batted 50/50 here. Sometimes service is top-notch but others I've had some of the worst service ever. I hope they work this glitch out in their hiring process because it really makes them look bad.

S-There are generally 5-8 beers on tap. I find it alternates between my wanting EVERY beer on the list and my wanting only one of them. I think more taps and rotating specialty beers would be appreciated.

F-Oh boy. This is the only brewery (except for Revolution in Chicago) that I've ever gone to for the food. I'm not a french fry guy, but Upland makes them the best and they're always perfect! If you can't make a crispy fry, close your kitchen (other guys). Thanks, Upland! Other than that, I tend to get burgers and assorted pub grub. Entrees cost more but they always look good. The nachos aren't to my liking (melted shredded cheese) but everything else is always phenomenal!

V-Beer is reasonably priced, especially carryout bombers (compared to store prices). Food is sometimes, in recent years only, a dollar or two more than I think it should be but is worth it.

O-I always go when I'm back home. Love this place and feel bad if my review brings down their score. Always a favorite for me even if the numbers don't show it.
