Stopped by here yesterday and thought that the selection was great! I do wish they had more singles available of regular 12-oz bottles instead of just bombers and 750mL bottles. The import section is quite extensive with separate sections for Polish, English, German, and Belgian beers. Full range of local and regional beers are available including: Berkshire, Olde Burnside, New England BC, Smuttynose, Allagash, Long trail, Thomas Hooker, Brooklyn Brewery.

Overall, this is a great store with a huge selection. I highly recommend this place and plan on regularly visiting the store.

Beer selection is large, but not massive. Specialty beers don't seem to be sold quickly, though, so be mindful of freshness dates. This can sometimes be a good thing, if you're looking for something that ages well, is out of season, or is out of production (which is why I went there; wanted some Christmas beer in July).

I have no idea how this place is getting such high ratings. The place is tiny and the beer section is similar in size to an average living room.

The service is lousy. I was approached by a younger gentleman who was only able to categorize beers by their color so he was basically worthless.

I attempted to special order a six pack of a local brewed beer that can be found in most liquor stores, but the manager was very hesitant because I wasn't purchasing the entire case. Nevertheless, he took down number and said he would place the order and give me a call...well, it's been several weeks and no phone call received so I'm assuming the order was never placed because the manager didn't want to stock the remaining 3 six packs.

The only place near Naugatuck that deserves an A+ rating is DeCicco's in Brewster. It's definitely worth the trip.

This place is a little out of the way for me, but I was in the area and decided to stop in. Odd that the fabled Mountview doesn't even have the name "Mountview" on its store frontage. Just "wine and liquour." Made me wonder if I had found the right place. Walk to the back and there's a compact area of micros and imports. Great selection, but honestly not better than the other top-notch spots in CT. I did see one brewer I'd never seen before (Kisser) and a few Southern Tier selections that I hadn't seen anywhere else, but no other real revelations. Excellent selection of Belgians and other imports. Great spot, but not necessarily worth going out of your way unless it's closer than some of the other top CT stores.

BringusKilkenney Quote " but obviously there are no craft beer drinkers in the area."

As a craft beer drinker that gets all his brews from Terry I am going to have to strongly disagree with you on this. LOL

Very true Terry has hard to get beers in stock when most others are sold out or just can't get their hands on them. Reason Terry is the go to Beer Guy.

The store from the outside looks like a standard liquor store. Same when you first walk in. Get passed the hard stuff and spoiled grape juices to find a beer lovers dream in the back section. Make a list before entering or you might get lost trying to figure out what you want to indulge in. Tons of imports and micro brews. Hard to find beers you can buy in singles. Great to make a six pack of beers you can't normally find in any store never mind in singles. Being a local and having known Terry for years doesn't make things easier. He can get his hands on anything made with barley. I also look forward to any beer events Terry is working on.

Don't forget to look in the back left corner next to the beer fridge for your copy of BA.

I found this place on beer fly while i am in CT for a week with my job.
First off i can't believe what was on the shelfs, not that it was bad, but obviously there are no craft beer drinkers in the area. I found a Dugana, Vertical Epic 09, and a Stone 13th anniversary on the shelf. The selection was great it isnt really anything i can't get where I am from, Norfolk, but the fact that the beer i found sold out months ago was great. I wold recommend this place to anyone that is passing through and wants to find some things that are sold out everywhere else in the world. This place really is a diamond in the rough because this area is a black hole for beer lovers.

Excellent bottle store with excellent service, only 10 minutes from me. As per many of the previous reviews, Terry knows his stuff (hes more than friendly too). The rest of the staff that I have talked to are friendly and appear to be somewhat knowledgeable.

The selection is top notch as far as what we can get here in CT. Sometimes you'll find a surprise too. Ive stumbled upon IST and Black Ops when reserves were dried up everywhere else. There is a towering four sided pillar dedicated to Belgian stuff. Other countries are well represented as well, including somewhat lesser recognized beer countries such as Poland and Italy.

Keep an eye on bottle dates. Some of the stuff in the warm six pack area hasn't turned over in a while. Same goes for some of the foreign stuff. Also, I wish I could break up six packs at Mountview, but alas I have to travel a bit farther to Amity for that.

Had a very pleasant experience there earlier today.

Place is very clean, well organized and beers are separated by country. Not much fridge selection but hardly an issue.

Talked to two people, both were very helpful and knowledgeable about beer. One was able to point out a few gems that he had hangin around, including an Old Raspy Anniversary and a Rogue Old Crustacean.

For Connection, the selection is great, although a couple places have a tad more. This place has a wider selection of imports than most.

I found everything reasonable priced. A couple things were a dollar more than what I normally see.

Great experience, highly recommended.

Great spot in an out of the way part of CT (basically, it's not on 95, 84 or 91, so I consider it out of the way), but this worked in my favor as they were one of the last places around to still have IST! Terry was very helpful in reserving a bottle for me over the phone, and even called me the day it came in to let me know he had them in hand and confirm when I would be at the store to pick them up.

The selection isn't necessarily the broadest I've ever seen, but it is excellent, and even moreso when looked at in comparison to the other CT stores.

I've been living in NYC for sometime now, so prices pretty much anywhere else seem great, and Mountview is no exception. Prices are the same as other CT stores, and if anything slightly cheaper. All in all a great spot, recommended if you're going to be at all in the area.

Mountview Plaza Wine & Liquors is a gem hidden way in the back of strip mall. If you weren't looking for it, you might never see it. Nestled in between Stop N Shop and a Dollar Store, Mountview is one of the best beer stores around.

Head all the way to the back of the store and you'll find their tremendous beer selection. Relatively speaking, it's actually a small beer space, but it's packed with great brews. They stock pretty much everything available in CT. Regional brews, domestic craft, imports, rare belgians, seaonals or speacial releases, they have everything. Ask for Terry, and he'll tell you what's new, or suggest something worthwhile.

All in all, Mountview is awesome. They may not have the stock of a place like CT Beverage Mart, but their selection and quality is top notch. Plus they run the Brass City Beer Fest, which is a rapidly growing Beer festival in Waterbury, and puts most others to shame. If your in the Naugatuck area this place is a must.

Mountview is about 10 minutes off exit 17 on I-84.

Right next to a Stop N` Shop in a strip mall, you would not necessarily expect to find an exceptional beer selection, but here you will. Upon entering, head all the way to the back, and there a re a handful of racks and a couple of coolers for the beer. It is a very solid mix of craft beers from the U.S.A., and then great beer from Germany, Belgium, Italy (best I`ve seen), Norway, Canada, and some other countries. I did not have a chance to meet Terry, but I did meet a young gentleman who was very helpful and friendly with their offerings. It was a bit of a drive for me, but I am glad I made it out. And I only blew $40 on some really great beer, it would be easy to spend a whole lot more at Mountview.

A decent store for the location, smack dab in a plaza next to Stop & Shop. The selection is huge! The service is adequate, although they aren't a huge help if you have an advanced question. A good place to find rarities or stuff that's obscure. A good selection of some local favorites as well, I was able to find a couple Carlson Brewery bottles here, and now that they are closed I might have to go back and pick up some more. Good selection of wine and liqour as well but who cares about that stuff. If your looking for a beer and haven't been able to get it anywhere else, chances are, this place will have it. Thank you GPS! Even after I got to the address I thought this couldn't be the place. Right next to Stop N Shop w/ no indication of "Mountview". I walked in, saw the variety, walked out and got a shopping cart.

This place needs to be bigger! Excellent selection of Belgians, though not my favorite style. Wide variety of stuff although very limited on six packs, especially cold ones. I found Dieu De Ciel (no Peche Mortel) but first time I've seen it in CT, a Captian Lawrence bomber (hoping for more CL variety) again first time I've seen it in CT) and Southern Tier. Staff couldn't answer some questions but I understand that not everyone is a beer geek. Unfortunately, it was a Tuesday and their Beer Guy is off on Tuesday's. It is an hour and a half away from my house and I can't see making a special trip but if you're in the area and have a GPS, look it up and enjoy.

Who could have guessed that a small town such as Naugatuck could play such a relevant role to the national beer community. This is a smaller shop when compared to locations such as Amity Liquors in New Haven, but every inch of this shop is effectively used to cater to the full spectrum of beer drinkers; from Miller Lite all the way to the newest and rarest Belgian releases. It doesn't mater how rare the release, if it is within Mountview's reach, it is most likely on the floor. I am sure that local Bud drinkers probably balk at prices when they wander into the larger, specialty beer section, but their pricing is completely in-line (if not even cheaper)than most stores offering a similar selection.

Also, they are very involved in tasting nights around the area and have almost single handedly brought good taste to the Naugatuck Valley over the years.

There is a fantastic selection here, from styles of beers as well as from all over the world. There is a wide selection of high qualilty American, Belgian & German brews. There is also a whole shelf area dedicated to Eastern European beers from Ukraine, Russia, Poland, Czech Republic, Slovac Republic, etc. that I haven't seen elsewhere. The Italian selection is the largest I have seen as well. The majority is singles, from 8.5 oz bottles to 22+oz bombers, so you can really get a lot of different beers to try in one trip. I've been there 3 times now on trips home to CT and the rotation of the beers is also impressive.
The service is fantastic as well, especially if Terry is on. I asked him a question on Italian beers and he spent about 10 minutes explaining each one of the shelf, I bought two including Bran Reserva of which only 20 cases were imported into this country.
For people like myself that are constantly looking for new beers to try, this is a place you must check out. The selection is abundant and the people are there to help you get what you're looking for.

This is easily the best beer store in Connecticut, at least that I've been to. It may be difficult for some to locate though, as it the name of the plaza is "Mountview" but the word is not listed above the entrance of this liquor store.

Looks like a dinky little corner liquor shop (in a plaza with a Stop & Shop and many other stores), though upon walking in, it's obviously fairly larger than it seems. Walk all the way towards the back and be amazed; behold shelf full of Great Divide brews, beers separated by origin or style, an extensive collection of rare Belgians (lambics, Flanders ales, etc. etc.), and a great stock of more normal beer too. Even some vintage selections (JW Lee's, Thomas Hardy's - not sure how old though). The owner is a really cool beer lovin' guy, and he (well, the store) even sponsors Waterbury, CT's annual Brass City Brew Fest - which is a blast!!!.

Over the past couple months, I've picked up North Coast Old Stock Ale 2006, Berkshire Imperial Stout, Stoudt's Fat Dog Imperial Oatmeal Stout, Podge Belgian Imperial Stout (yeah, I like imperial stouts), Lindeman's Cuvee Rene Gueuze Lambic, Smuttynose Hanami Ale - just to name a few.

Prices are average for Connecticut. Selection, however, is way above average, and there's always something new. Stop in.

I've heard of this place for years and just never made the 25 minute drive to see the wonders of their beer selection until this year. Now, several visits later, I can confirm that most any beer lover will find at least a few rare goodies here. Considering its reputation, I am surprised at how crowded this medium to small store is. It's difficult to negotiate and the presentation of the products is somewhat lacking. There is minimal information available and nobody ever pays any attention to you unless you run around and grab somebody for help. Terry is the head honcho on beer and he seems to know it all. He is involved with several beer festival type activities every year among other things I'm sure. But in general, the staff always seems too busy to take any time to search out customers or offer assistance. It's easy to go unnoticed simply due to the hap hazzard layout where pillars of beer tend to hide you from view. You really have to allow some time to do a thorough search of the beer selection but they have a great range of stuff, foreign and domestic with a sampling of most all the micros available for disribution in Connecticut. Pricing may not be particularly different than anyone else for the exotic beers, but there are certainly no bargains from what I can see. You pay for the advantage of this great variety. For the real specialist, this may be the best outlet in the state. But for those of us that may be satisfied with most anything that is new and unusual I am finding many smaller, more local stores are beginning to recognize us and offer a decent selection. So Mountview is a virtual Mecca for beer, but I find better service and more beer chat elsewhere despite the trade off in selection. Definitely check this place out though. You'll need directions if you are not from Naugatuck.

I had to drive nearly 40 miles to get to this place, so my expectations were at peak. Basically, anything short of superior wasn't going to warrant a return trip. My feeling is the selection for what I was looking for was there, but the service wasn't what some of my BA bretheren experienced. Still, and to get to the point, I will likely make a return trip if the selection continues to stand out.

Selection for me means Belgian, Belgian and more Belgian. Throw in a German bock or anything off the beaten path for the Connecticut area and I'm happy. The store is rather small, the placement of their finer beers to the rear of the store vs out on center stage is troublesome and everything is scattered about. Bottom line is, if you're in a hurry, don't bother to patronize the place. But the Belgian selection was very good. I had just sampled BB Bourgandier at Monk's in Philadelphia and figured there was no chance I could find it in Connecticut. M-View had it along with Val Dieu Triple, Gulden Draak, and a few others I bought that I hadn't even heard of. Nice job.

I also snagged a four pack of Ayinger Celebrator Doppelbock (not that I can't get it at my usual packy, but it was there so I bought it). Overall quality is there. Nice selection of other German brews and micros.

As to value, nothing comes cheap at this place. In fact the Celebrator was a few bucks more than I'm used to spending. The BB was $5 per bottle, but that's about the going rate for the better Belgians, I suppose.

As to service, one of the employees was busily stacking shelves completley ignoring me the whole time until I sheepishly apologized for being in his way. If you see a customer is spending 30 or so minutes making his selections and busily loading his shopping cart with your stock, a courtesy hello at the very least is warranted, wouldn't you say?

If you have to drive as far as I did, make it worthwhile and bring a wallet full of cash so the investment in your time and gas is rewarded.

A shop that truly puts quality over sales volume. Craft beer here is the largest percentage relative to selection of any store I have been in. A little bit haphazard in the layout, but you could spend half a day deciding on your selections even if they were in one nice row.

Sales staff was busy restocking but was quick to ask if I had any questions and provided great answers. Copies of publications including the BA magazine were free for the taking.

Fantastic choices include all heavy hitters of craft brew available in Connecticut. Wide selection of imports and a small glassware selection. Prices were average to what you would find anywhere in the state. Expect to spend more then you wanted because you just "have to have" both of something you are debating between.

Great selection: many Cantillions and Belgiumes, both BBC's Berkshire and Bluegrass, every Newport Storm from 01-06, nice New England representation, engalnd, Germany, Slavic/Russian. Was able to stop in while visiting Family over this past weekend. The store is very easy to get to, the only issue was finding parking in the shopping area where it is located. Pretty good sized store but when you factor in that the store sells wine, spirits and beer it is really cramped. They use the space in the back of the store to its maximum for their beer selections, that is for sure. Very good selection of brew, did not spend nearly as much time as I would have liked there but meet a fellow who I am thinking must be Terry that people have been talking about. Very nice man, very helpful in pointing things out to me. Think he was a little shocked that I really was only looking for CT brews this time but told him I would be back on my next trip through. Very interesting beers from a number of places that I have never heard of or seen before so that will be my next trips goal. Had all the normal CT suspects I gather and I did leave with about $45 worth of beer for the Thanksgiving week, plus being with my wife I was not going to push it. Could be a kid in a candy store there! It is nice to be able to use beer fly to discover places like this! Felt that the Prices were fair to good on the items that I was tracking down. Located next to the Stop & Shop in the Mountview Plaza. Take a look at the picture of the storefront before you go, because there is no signage with the word "Mountview," just "Wines & Liquors." The shop doesn't look like much, either, so it isn't immediately obvious unless you know what you're looking for.

As you walk in, there's a cooler to your right with some cold macros and malternatives. The real action is in the back of the store, hidden in a corner. It's amazing the amount and variety of beer they are able to cram into such a small place! The specialty seems clearly to be Belgian and Belgian-style beer, though they also have a great selection of what I assume is Polish (?) beer. They have the largest selection of Cantillon I've seen in the state, though that's not really my thing. They also dedicate a nice percentage of their stock to American craft beer, including all the usual CT suspects and their special releases.

Help was friendly and asked if I needed help finding anything. I just told him I wanted to make sure I saw everything before I made my selections and he commented that they definitely had many different offerings (it wasn't Terry).

The Belgians were $9.99 and up (750 ml), for the most part, which seems par for the course for CT. The American beers all seemed reasonably priced, especially the New England Sea Hag IPA cans, which they're practically giving away at $6.49/sixer! I left with 2 sixers of the Hag and 750 mls of Tripel Karmeliet, Urthel Hop-It, and Wayan from Le Baladin for about $50...not too bad, I guess.

A great store that has just about anything you could expect a CT beer store to have from Belgium and the United States.

This store has the best craft beer selection in southern CT if not the entire state. If Terry Boyd is there when you go, make sure you have a chat with him, he is consistently helpful and has given me some great beer recommendations. Terry also has a mailing list in which he lists beers that are upcoming, beer news and beer events.
Mountview does not have the largest selection, but Terry makes sure that there are plenty of gems available.
Some other reviewers have mentioned spotty service, while I wouldn't call it spotty, I will say that it is best to direct any craft beer questions to Terry as that is his domain. The rest of the staff is helpful and friendly, but most likely won't know about that obscure Belgian you are seeking.

Thank you Donna at Thomas Hooker/Trout Brook Brewing for recommending this place on my drive from Danbury back to Bradley Airport.

Quality: First, I have never seen such a selection of Polish beers. Is there a big Polish community in the area or just a good distributor for them? Either way not why I came there. On a budget and a mission, I just grabbed CT beers. And boy did they have some. Had Thomas Hooker's Liberator, Imperial Pilsner, Old Marley, and some others in six packs in the cooler. Had Three Judges form New England Brewery, Old Burnsides Highland Tartan Ale and some others. Lots of Belgians, Rogue, Brooklyn, Cisco, and many others. Arrangement could be a letter better, but it also looked like they were restocking.

Service: Hard to rate, I didn't look for help, none was offered, but no issues and they were friendly at the register.

Value: Everything appeared to be priced along the lines that I would expect.

Go right to the back of the store and plan on spending some time...there's so much to consider...even if there's a certain style you're looking for, you'll find a great selection of that style...lots of single bottles available...more micros and internationals than I've ever seen in a liquor store.I love the Belgians, and there are many to choose from. It's a weekly stop for me.

The owner , Terry is very friendly and takes his time with you...gives very accurate descriptions...asks the right questions.
He also knows his single malts and has a good selection of those too. Their wine selection is also very good.

This gem of a beer store is very close to where I live, but if I lived an hour away....it would be worth the trip.

Quality – Everything seemed fresh and they had a good number of their lower abv beers in the cooler. The place was a bit cluttered with boxes that I had to climb over and search through, but it made it seem more like a beer scavenger hunt.

Service – Several employees asked if I needed help finding anything, but I was happy to browse as I had no time schedule. The other customers seemed to receive ample help.

Selection – Loads of good stuff, 750’s of Wild Dog, two flavors of Rodenbach, rare Rogue, Sam Adams Imperial Pils, lots of English beers, and loads of other imports and locals. I kept thinking that I was done, but I would look behind a shelf or in a box and find something delicious to buy.

Value – Prices seemed fair, more expensive than cheap, but cheaper than expensive.

Conclusion – Positioned in a small strip mall next to a supermarket the outside looks like a standard local liquor store. However, the inside blew me away, thanks beerfly’ers for pointing in to this gem of a place. The only shame is that it isn’t anywhere near where I live, I’ll definitely make it back anytime I am driving down to New York.

Stopped here while in CT on business on Aug. 25, 2005. Boy was I glad I stopped.

Terry Boyd (one of two principals) was in that day and was EXTREMELY helpful. I honestly wish I lived closer, because I could really benefit from this guy's advice on a regular basis. He had plenty of good advice for me regarding Belgian breweries and brews, and was friendly and accomodating in every way.

I think that the prices on many of the more common Belgians were a little high compared to Ohio, but very comparable to other CT establishments. I don't fault this in any way, and will come back again any time I'm in CT. The selection and service make the price very reasonable.

I took Terry's advice on selections, and he was on the money!! By all means stop here and describe your favorite flavors to Terry. He will find very good selections for you which you might not otherwise find or try.

A pleasure to do business with this store. Recommended above all others!!

I was tipped off to this place by a guy who owns a package store in my area, he said that Mountview was the best. I walked in to the front of this place, and I had to walk through the back past all the wine and wine coolers and thirty packs of coors light. There I found an oasis of lovely beer.

Terry happened to be there, and when I said I liked Belgian beers, especially trappists, he gave me a a fantastic 10 minute education and review of tens of beers. And subjective as it may be, he was right. What really impressed me was the fact that they had singles of more beers that I have even see in one place. and rare beers. The selection of gueze and belgium products is astounding.ALso there is a great variety of American Craft Brews and Multi-packs And best of all, there is no corporate feel here. You get the feeling that someone in the store tried and likes everybeer they sell. Really amazing place. Thank God its fifteen minutes from my house.

I mean when you are buying a beer that is one single from only twelve cases to hit the US, do you really expect it to be cheap? Its very reasonable for what it is. The most expensive beer i've purchased is a $6.99 Rochefort 10(330ml). It was well worth every one dallar sip.

Made my first visit this past Saturday to pick up some Thomas Hooker brews along with Kloster Weltenburg. Was not disappointed. My take included 2 Liberator, 3 Impy Porter, 1 Old Marley '04 and 1 '05, 2 New England BW, 1 Boon Mirriage Parfait Framboise, 1 Westmalle Tripel 750, 9 bottles of various Kloster Weltenburg, Beersel Kriek and Gueuze, 2 top secret beers, and a few other variouse delectables. Terry Boyd was most helpful and really knows his stuff. Nice selection and the place is highly recommended.

Absolutely the best beer place we've found in connecticut! We went there once around Christimastime, by reference of a friend from work, and were so overwhelmed that we couldn't decide what to buy! We went again yesterday armed with the beer advocate top 50 most available beer list, and Terry, the beer god!, circled the ones he had in stock, marked the seasonal beers, and explained why the first beer on the list is the most NON AVAILABLE beer on that list!! Incredible.

They do need a larger space, in order for us beer fiends to guide a cart through the store, rather than those meager tiny baskets, that we, my husband and I, filled and had to carry some in hand as well!

The jewel of CT so far, I'd have to say...
