Stopped in for a bottle of wine but managed to check out the beer selection before I left. Wasn't aware the store even carried beer until I, by chance, glanced at one of the shelves in the center of the store. The decent selection is nothing spectacular, but certainly worth a hit if you are in the neighborhood. Both Stone 07-07-07 ($7.99) and Dogfish Head Festina Peche were on the room temp shelves. Can't really comment on the beer service too much, because as stated before I was looking for wine, but found good service in that respect.

I was desperate for decent beer, and Rick's was closed. We stopped in for Thai food next door to the Daily Planet and so I went in to browse. The good news was that all their beer is cold. The bad news is, there were about only six different beers in there. The good news is, they were DFH, Stone, some fine European selections. I skipped the Black & Blue and Ruination, almost grabbed the Maximus, but settled on the Stone IPA, in case I was sharing with folks looking for the less exotic. Literally, I just named half of the beers in the cooler.
The staff were really nice, let me know they were offering wine tastings, there were cheese and crackers out for samples.
Overall--thank goodness they were there, but geez, they need to fill up that fridge to overflowing. VA has a great selection of micros, as opposed to mini-macros like DFH and Stone. Hope this cool boutique wine shop ramps up on the beer.

A compact store in the heart of the Del Ray neighborhood, which at first glance appears to be wine only. While the shop is definitely wine-centric, step through the door and walk to the back left corner and you'll be rewarded with a wonderful, but select, number of American craft beers from the likes of Avery, DFH, Stone, Ommegang, Victory, and a few others. They also have some nice German wheat beers, English Pales, and a few Beligians.
The store is associated with the Evening Star Cafe, located next door, and will let you consume your purchases with your meal for a small fee.
They also stock a nice selection of gourmet foods, including meats, cheeses, and chocolate.

Planet Wine is located in the Del Ray section of Alexandria. At first glance it looks to be just a wine shop, but in the back corner is a small, but well thought out selection of beer. While the selection is not that large, it is well thought out with little chaff. One can find DFH, Stone (including Imp Stout) Great Divide, Avery, Chimay, Deleriums, Troegs. Dominion, and even to my surprise Russian River. They also had a decent selection of German Biers as well including Berliner Kindl Weiss. Service was nice and even commented on my choices of beers with a smile. Daily Planet also helps arrange beer tastings. When I was there there were advertising a Dogfish Firkin night.
Another nice thing is the small but good selection of artisinal cheese and salami's they carried. Daily planet is attached to the Evening Star restaurant and you are allowed to carry your purchases over to the restaurant for consumption for a small corkage fee. Dates on all products were within the freshness window
Overall while not the largest of selections, Daily Planet is worth stopping into if you are in the Old Town Section as it is only a few minutes away.
