Huge thanks to newk340 for busting this out last night to follow up the Utopias, thanks Nick! Although I live in Minnesota and have even traded growlers for Czar Jack, I've never had it before, so I was pretty excited to try it. Split 5 ways and poured into snifters:
A - Pours dark black with thick, frothy mocha head that is about 1.5 inches thick. Lacing is pretty heavy and sticks on the sides of the glass for a while.
S - Vanilla, sweet candy, little bit of chocolate, wood and light bourbon. Some roast along with a little bit of lactose. Kind of like milk chocolate. Hints of heat and booze.
T - Touch of booze and heat. Toffee, dark plums and raisins. Roast, vanilla, earth and a bit of butterscotch.
M - Good carbonation. Thick and bit of a tingle from the heat. Pretty smooth and creamy.
O - I was really happy with this one. I've had the Ol' Jack Frost before, which I thought was pretty good, and it definitely showed as the base beer, but I've never had anything aged in Jack Daniels barrels before, which I was also able to pick up in the smell, taste and mouthfeel. Really glad I got to try this one. It might be a tad bit better in a year when it has time to cool down from the heat, but overall, a solid offering from the Town Hall.

On tap at the Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery. 12 oz served cold in a tulip glass today 4/19/2014.
A- pitch black body, thick with a dark mocha head that has the best retention of any BA stout I've ever seen. Thick, filmy and stays for what feels like forever. Not much lacing
S- sweet dark chocolate, coffee, dark fruit, a touch of Cherry and just the right amount of bourbon and vanilla.
T- Roast malt, milk chocolate, coffee, well integrated bourbon that adds more sweetness and a touch of vanilla. The roast really helps counterbalances the sweetness.
M- full bodied. Well carbonated, creamy almost. Sweet, mocha-like aftertaste that's balanced by a roasty bitterness.
O- excellent RIS that has the right touch of bourbon barrel aging. The barrels add a lot to the character without overwhelming the base beer.

First visit to Minneapolis Town Hall Brewery. Will not be my last. Czar Jack had just been put on the taps at the end of their Barrel Aged Week. Pitch black pour with minimal head. Bourbon plus on the aroma. Same on the taste but also vanilla with very light coffee and tobacco. Mouthfeel a tad thin but didn't detract much. Very glad to have tried this offering from MTHB.
