Dark brown, nearly blacky black with a nice dark tan head of espresso-tinged foam that lasts and leaves semi-decent lacing. Aromas are all dark roasted malts, and some chocolate, a bit of instant coffee, and maybe some other sugary syrupy aroma hints as well. Taste is nice and roasty, and quite big, almost like this border on being a baltic/imperial porter. This is quite "robust" with nice malty flavors of rustic hearth baked bread, chocolate, coffee, and more with a nice, although limited leafy green hop character which becomes noticeable towards the dry finish as this brew warms and gains character. Mouthfeel is full in the mouth and drinkability is quite good, as is the carbonation levels of this brew. quite the damn fine porter as is, but I think cask would do wonders for this one, and make it a real knocker outer...

Looks black to me. Good looking tight creamy brown head. Retention is very good and the lace left behind is quite bountiful and intricate. Nose is very nice. Deep roasted malts. Chocolate. Dark Caramel. Slight coffee as well. This porter intertwines all of the great flavors of porters nicely...chocolate, coffee, caramel, roasted malt and a little char. Very balanced, flavorful beer. Medium body. Slightly chewy mouthfeel. CO2 is appropriately low. This is a winner.

Dark brown color, yet still lets light penetrate the beer. Head is small and tan, fast fading. An easy drinkin' porter, not big and ballsy like a Baltic style, or even some american ones. Not very acidic and has a very well hidden abv, but does have nice chocolate qualities. Good summer porter, full creamy mouthfeel. Above average.

Deep, dark appearance, save for crimson peekings round the edges, with a sturdy cocoa brown head, though quick to crumble, leaving some lace...
Aroma: cocoa and nuts...chocolate, lightly roasted coffee...sweet, and not at all bitter...nice.
Taste: There it is again, rich coffee/cocoa tastes, full flavored, but not too thick, thoroughly satisfying, a great drinker, with just enough body, and just enough taste. This is a great porter for summertime, and the times when you tire of weizens, lagers, or kolsches and need something more substantial. And, the best non-flavored porter I've yet had here at Town Hall. It's juuust right!
This is the sort of beer I could never tire of, and am very happy to find at my favorite watering hole. Just hope it lasts more than a week or two!

On-tap at the brewpub: Solar Eclipse is just that. It blocks out alot of light. Only the edges gleem with a bit of crimson brown. The overall body though is very dark brown and opaque. A good medium sized cocoa brown cap keeps a nice fluffy frothed presence. Keeps a smooth leftover skimming thats favorably thick and the lacing clouds the glass with a heavy sheeting. Wow! Looks scrumptious!
Aroma is a bit subdued but clean and crisp with a cocoa enduced roasty nose and has a bit of a fruity sway underneath.
Taste is crisp and quick upfront. Intially mild with a sharper carbonation one would expect out of a porter. Fine tuned cocoa dust and milk chocolate hold most of the flavors within its realm. A crescendo into a more roasty bitterness finishes it with more of darker chocolate nudge of hard fudge and traces of coffee. Leafy hops intersede under the roasty stuff. Finish really pulls it through. Interestingly fluffy and dry on the palate after it grows on ya.
Soft and mild, medium/light body. The carbonation was a little much to start. Mellows out after a while but its a bit harsh around the edges still.
A nice summer drinkin' porter. Nothing big or bold here. A complementary beer along side any of the other Town Hall drinkers.
